    Martial is available 🤣

Even before the injuries there were links to Toney so it's not completely left field. If the finances were there id have liked utd to have a 3rd striker to provide a different profile to hojlund and Zirkzee. I don't think Zirkzee is going to be an out and out 9 for us but more so playing off the striker

We were previously linked to Maximilian Beier who is a 21yo striker, but who can play either side as well. Feel like he'd be a smart signings, as he'd be able to rotate in for multiple players which means you have an easier time playing him and others.

Few clubs have been putting in offers, so we are maybe too late or competing against too many. Or there was never any interest I suppose is as possible.

I don't think Zirkzee will play off a striker much, cause I can't see the formation that allows it, really. Not given our squad make up. I think it could happen in games, where him or Hojlund are brought on if we are chasing a game.

IMO he is most likely to play as our 9, but drop similar to Firminho for Liverpool - Rashford and Garnacho/Amad either side, Bruno running beyond.

As it stands I reckon we have plans for essentially a pivot in the 9/10 positions, similar to what we saw in the Cup final. In that case it was Bruno and McTominay pivoting as false strikers - so not exactly the same; but I think we will be looking at these as potential pairs, without another signing:

    Zirkzee/Bruno.
    Hojlund/Bruno
    Hojlund/Zirkzee
    Zirkzee/Rashford
    Rashford/Bruno
    Hojlund/Rashford

Where Hojlund is in the selection, i think he pushes the line forward more but in base terms I think we are going to be seeing something of a 442 out of possesion with those selections.

Can't get much cheaper than free agent Rabiot. If Fiorentina covered Amrabats wages I guess I'd take him back.

Seen this morning that PSG would be open to Loan plus buy if United commit to a "lucrative" fee and then we are in talks with Rabiot again with a wage of 120k pw

Rabiot on his own would not be a good enough signing. Same with Amrabat. Neither are good enough to be first choice DMs for us, and that is what we need.

Ugarte and Rabiot with Scott gone? Makes sense to me.
Ugarte and Amrbat with Scott gone? Does't make sense to me because, financially, we are then paying those 2, and Casemiro (a fortune) to play DM. Amrabat isn't good enough to be first choice, and if we can't get rid of case I can't see how we financially commit to a second dedicated DM signing. Rabiot can and does play further forward.

I think it's more likely Mainoo goes backwards this season. You could see him having a few difficult games towards the end of last season and there is not the runners to cover for him like Rice and Bellingham did a lot in the Euros and it's fairly common for the second season slump with a lot of young players across nearly every sport.

So with Mount, Eriksen and McTominay as the other options to play there I think it's fine for the box to box position. You'd hope someone will come in at DM though I'm not completely sour on Casemiro. There's just nobody else who can come in for him really as a natural there. So definitely agreed another is needed.

I'm fine with Mount coming in for Mainoo - would play differently, but i still think he can be an excellent 8.

My issue is purely the person who plays beside Mainoo (or Mount, or Erikse, or McTominay) - you may not be soured on Casemiro, but I utterly am. I think he will be effectively useless for most games, most of the season, and actively damaging to the side if he plays, especially if he has to play as first choice (which he surely would be as things stand right now).

I'd actually play McTominay over Casemiro (and tell him not to bomb on) as DM.

What I wanted/hoped this summer was for Casemiro to be sold and then we get a pure DM tackler/defensive workhorse and also a player who can split between DM an CM - to partner or 'replace' Mainoo (on rotation).

IMO if we sign one midfielder they have to be able to play with Mainoo and Bruno (prioritize defensive output and workrate/coverage). If we sign two midfielders one has to be able to play with Bruno and Mainoo (as above), the other has to be somewhat able to do that but also replace Mainoo (more of a compromise between defensive work and offensive impact).

Zubimendi's release clause is the same as the 50m that PSG seemingly want for Ugarte.

Just watched the highlights of Betis game there. At times highlights can be a bit deceptive but imo Casemiro is definitely a lot leaner and fitter looking than even the end of last Season,so maybe in the event of him not getting sold this Summer he might be able to get around the park better this Season.Of course it’s preferable to have him gone but his age and massive wages are actively blocking that imo.The Saudi clubs are no fools and I would be pleasantly surprised if any of them come in for him.

Rashford looks a lot more interested than he was for pretty much all of last Season so hopefully his injury isn’t too bad.

Amad is a very clever player……streets ahead of Antony in game intelligence and if he stays fit deserves to start the Season on RW.

Would be no harm at all to rest Garnacho for first few games if possible as he played far too many minutes last Season for a lad of his age and is coming back from the Copa America too.Could be sprung from the bench after 60 minutes if needed.

Harry Amass looks like a good prospect, did well going forward but got caught out badly when he went to sleep for Betis opening goal.

But you have to pay it up front, which is a much bigger cash problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Read Amass saying that a big reason he signed for United is the pathway to the first team that was shown to him.

So I wonder are we 100% not signing a LB this summer, because we consider it a waste of money with Amass being 'the guy' in the next 12/18 months?

He is very young, and you can see that in terms of the experience missing on the defensive side. Which, imo, will come with time.

Samuel Luckhurst once reported he had arrived at Carrington for a medical. Mistook him for someone else 😂

dunno why we don't go for Reguilon again. Seems a no brainer and Spurs just want rid so cant cost much at all.

He can make it to the pitch which is a fair upgrade on Malacia anyway. And Shaw can't play 30 games never mind near 50. We need something with a pulse to be the bridge between Shaw and Amass.

Watched some bits of the game last night.

    Worried by it.

A lot of single pivot play in midfield, like last season. Looked good last night cause our energy levels were good, but trying the same vs better sides with better physicality? We could potentially look better than last season with better players, and better energy, but I still believe it's a fundementally flawed approach.

Was hoping we'd play far closer to the city game.

Obviously finance is very important, but if finances was irrelevant, what would be the pros/cons of Zubi v Ugarte, on the assumption you could only get one of them.

I've been impressed by how they've changed it up. The single pivot was never the main problem. They have looked way more compact as a team and the defence has pushed right up, which has meant we haven't seen those huge gaps like last season. They've also clearly worked on cutting off areas of the pitch while pressing, another big problem from last season.

It's only preseason but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Maxi Oyedele has looked good on tour, if he works on his passing he could be a tidy player.

Malacia not due back for at least 2 months. The poor fella must be in absolute tatters.

Double bid for de Ligt & Mazraoui

The Old Trafford hierarchy want to bolster their ranks by landing both defenders and stepped up their pursuit on Thursday via a joint bid.

There was optimism at United and among the players’ representatives that this would satisfy Bayern’s expectations for squad members they deem surplus to requirements.

But the proposal was rejected and the Bundesliga side told their Premier Leaguecounterparts it will need a higher fee to reach an agreement, with talks ongoing.

It has caused some bemusement in the camp of De Ligt and Mazraoui — represented by the same agent, Rafaela Pimenta — based on their understanding of what it would require to get a deal over the line.

Bayern informed the pair before the summer market opened that neither were part of their plans and transfers should be sought, insisting the club would compromise to help the process.

The resistance United’s enquiries subsequently met led De Ligt and Mazraoui’s people to ask Bayern whether their stance on the centre-back and full-back had changed, yet the position was reiterated.

If that is the case, the longer the situation lasts the more financially costly it may become to Bayern — given their sizeable salaries.

Personal terms for De Ligt and Mazraoui are already in place on five-year contracts, which include an option to extend by 12 months.

Hopefully done by next week, then onto Urgate & Rabiot

Getting de Ligt will be a nice way to soften the blow of Yoro. Two weeks to go until Fulham. Would be nice to have them part of the squad in time for that.

Do an Arsenal and add 1p to the next bid.

Think this may help it be quicker

Sounds like BM are acting the gowl and trying to get more than they'd agreed.

I reckon both deals will be done in the next week, with AWB and possibly McTominay leaving. Hopefully CM is being worked on in the background too.
