It's funny seeing posters scoff at those questioning the decision to leave this segment in the event. The same posters would be up in arms if another religion or minority group was mocked in a similar fashion. The last supper is an important part of Christian beliefs and should be treated with respect.

The Olympics are supposed to be the pinnacle of human sporting achievements, religion, political and other ideologies are best left out of it.

Lol how much out of a 4 hour show is cuasing uproar like it was the entire show?

**** me, go touch some grass and breathe some fresh air. The Twitter echo chamber gets visibly worse every time it rears it's head.

I believe all religions are stupidity and open to ridicule. But I saw no ridicule

    they/them/theirs

Not me, I happily make fun of all religions.

As someone mentioned earlier, did you take issue with other Last Supper homages in media?

That's pretty standard, the Euros, World Cup etc do copyright strikes over any unauthorized sharing of footage. Even the Eurovision tends to be like that. Guessing it's because they want to maximize revenue.

    Which was the mocking part?

Noone seems able to answer that, or the insulting part?

    non binary advertising.

thats how you should think of this. when too many adverts pop up you sigh, not because you're opposed to the product, but because they just wont shut up about it.

people with a minority sexuality get an entire month to harp on about it. theres enough stunning and brave already. can they not just leave the olympics out of it.

So, don't like the gays then.....…

Seriously, in this day and age you're opposed to non binary people being in advertisements?

Honestly atm, it's just sounding like homophobes getting offended by the inclusion of a drag act. And most people are fine with it.

Maybe they will stop when people stop being outraged by it.

People making threads crying about it is only confirmation that it is still an issue.

I changed over after about 30 seconds of watching that horse, some sort of submarine with a mechanical horse on the end of a pole…the mechanics of the legs were impressive but other than that I just changed over.

Oh well naturally youd assume everyone shares all of your opinions.

The intrusiveness of culture war nonsense is somewhat tiresome.

Especially when you know the disappointing commercial reasons behind much of it.

'Intrusiveness of culture wars' just reads like you're trying to find something to be outraged about.

What even is culture wars anyway? And how do they intrude on your life? I can honestly say they have never been an issue in mine, nor anyone I know!

I haven't read all posts, but do folks know that The Last Supper is just a painting? It's not even a realistic portrayal of a supper: it has everyone sitting on one side of the table.

Anyone offended by this scene from M*A*S*H (1970)?

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

    In fairness it did. Fantastic.

But all it did too was remind me of the ambition and execution of Danny Boyle's London 2012 opener.

I did not even twig that is what it was until I saw this thread. I spent most of my time wondering will the fat one start dancing. Or will one of them slip in the water while doing tumbles.

Years ago a certain bookmaker did the last supper in an advert

    Untitled Image

I remember it because an elderly friend of my parents who was in his 90's "Boycotted" them because of it.

There is also a famous painting depicting the last supper with Marylin Monroe as Jesus. Along with Hollywood stars.

    Untitled Image

The OP asked why averts do not take the piss out of Jews or Muslims?

The answer is simple Christians (Catholic's in particular) have lost a lot of respect for their religious institutions because of Child Abuse scandals and the way Catholicism controlled certain states from top to bottom. Ireland was one.

So it is an easy target. You cannot target Jews because of claims of anti-semitism and they view themselves as an homogenous people. Plus images of the holocaust are constant reminders on history programmes.

You cannot attack Muslims because those who take grave offence go on a jihad. Or put out fatwah's.

So the Christian religion is "fair game" as there are not much repercussions. As there are very few countries left in the world where the Christian religion has strong control.

In short most people don't give a sh!te, and those who care at all cannot cause much repercussions.

If the OP really cared he/she/whatever would go on crusade in protest. But that is not going to happen. Much easier to create a boards.ie thread.

Absolutely no idea what you're talking about! Stick it to the patriarchy? Ah stop will ya, I'm not a teenager.

At least I don't get annoyed at advertisements........

I didn't see outrage! Legitimate question I thought

I love how much Bambithug upset these fools. Of all the things in the "culture wars" the re-emergence of freaking out about metalers and goths as satan worshippers must be the most surprising and pathetic.

If you're offended or not religious or not what on earth had the whole scenario got to do with the Olympics ?

performance art was it? I assume the same license would be given to mock transgenderism ….no of course not

I don't subscribe to left or right wing views. I have opinions on many different things, nothing to do with left or right. But I will say, I have been called both on this site.

Its s bit sad, imo, reducing all things to 'left or right '
