"Last Supper" depiction at Olympics Opening Ceremony

During the Olympics ceremony last night a depiction of "The Last Supper" replaced the previous participants with people in drag.

OK, it will offend some but I don't have an issue with it except one thing…

Why is it OK to do this to Christians and not Jews or Muslims?

If they don't want that question asked why go near it at all?

Seems one religious cult is fair game and others are not.

This is the cult of the day...they are everywhere and involved in everything…they are treated with such lavish regard...to the point that they are untouchable.

This is likely how it went... Diversity/Inclusion officer goes to the Olympic committee, " I think we should recreate the last supper with drag queens"...most of the committee are completely opposed to it but say nothing for fear of being fired due to being "transphobic" ....therefore this unnecessary, pathetic & insulting (to many) spectacle gets the green light..

Young boys and girls at home watching the Olympic ceremony with their families ask the confused question "what is that, is that a man or a woman? This should not happen.

An extremely odd opening ceremony, an event that is supposed to showcase sporting achievements has been taken over by people pushing ideological agendas.

It absolutely isn't right that one religion is fair game but others are out of bounds.

Aside from that can you name a similar work from the Jewsish or Muslim world? That is as iconic and has been recreated as many times.

Let's say they decided for balance to have drag queens do similar for other religions (though I'd argue one of the main reasons why they did this for Christianity is because it's a predominantly Christian country rather than making fun of a minority religion which is the obvious answer to your question);

Erm, pantomimes were and still are a thing. So children for generations are pretty familiar with the concept of drag. The likes of Dame Edna has been around for decades.

The French response to the event has been resoundingly positive so I think they're pretty happy with what was delivered. Outrage junkies are annoyed but they're getting their high at least.

Nah, that is a bit different. The Qur'an forbids any image of any prophet, and I think you probably already know that. I am not sure there is anything equivilant in Christianity.

Your threshold for 'disturbed' is fairly low-- reminds me of that equally disturbing 'Jesus Toast' thing that had individuals in a state of apoplexy... give it a few hours and this will be a non issue, the world will continue, the rest of us will watch the sport, the poor children will not be traumatised by people in funny outfits or dancing queens, nothing will actually happen and most likely the outrage bandwagoners will lurch towards something else.

But they were drag acts, that is not the same as being transgender. Clearly you yourself are very confused by drag performances. Dame Edna was also a drag act, there's fundamentally no difference. Pantomime shows also rely heavily on drag. So basically you don't understand what drag is, it's a form of entertainment.

You're fairly clueless, the last supper is a biblical mention, the artwork is a depiction of that. Therefore, it's not about the artwork, any depiction of the Muslim or Jewish religions by text, could, be used, say Muhammad with his child bride, or the act of Metzitzah B'peh, imagine the outcry if that happened. Al religions should be mocked equally

But that's the thing...questioning or criticising something doesn't necessarily mean you are outraged...

I'd be more likely to be "outraged" at people walking around with hundreds of previous convictions for assault etc getting suspended sentences...but even then I don't think I'd meet a threshold for "outrage" if one exists.

I don't think it's an unreasonable observation to say they wouldn't do it with other religions some of whose adherents really would get outraged so on that basis perhaps they shouldn't do it with the majority one either...just seems like a moron or at best unnecessary decision to me
