I'd say Trump, Vance and the authors of Project 2025.

Just as well Biden isn't running anymore, eh?

You think it is lazy to criticise a man that said he wants to be a dictator, the is openly in admiration of other dictators and has just said he intends to get rid of voting?

The man just said that if he wins people won't have to vote again.

This is massive. It cannot simply be waved away as out of context or a joke or sarcasm.

The GOP candidate for POTUS is stating he intends to stop democracy.

If a man who attempted a coup tell you when he wins you will never have to vote again - you better believe him.

Have a read of this it might enlighten you as to why Trump cannot be a dictator in a Federal Republic.

    https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/01/28/a-trump-dictatorship-is-possible-but-not-in-four-years-00137949

Still, four years pass quickly and even in another four years as president, Trump will not gain the organizational capacity, popular mandate, or institutional consensus to build a dictatorship or prolong his tenure past a second term. What I have seen in Turkey, Poland and Hungary suggests there is a turbulent time between the election of an illiberal leader and the establishment of a dictatorship when resistance will flourish. Any attempt at state capture by Trump will face a pushback from media, bureaucracy, major cities and the judiciary.

Even in an imperfect democracy like Turkey, it took more than a decade to dismantle the rule of law. Donald Trump might try, but he will find that it takes a long time to become dictator.

So this dictator on day one talk is utter nonsense.

He has stated he will sort those issues out. I am literally quoting the man himself.

    I think it’s lazy.

    Nobody takes that stuff seriously.

How about criticism for what he intends to do with his presidency.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,667 ✭✭✭Virgil°

That just boils down to "It'll be difficult and probably take him a while to do it". Scant consolation. You could argue he's already started with his supreme court lackeys ruling on presidential immunity.

Nothing in that video clip sounded remotely sarcastic to me.

Best not not take a chance and let Trump take it any further regardless eh?

How many did he kill before he declared himself dictator?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

"We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless, if the left allows it to be."

Who are you trying to kid here? They've done their homework on this. They haven't been sitting, waiting for Trump to have another go. It's all in the manual.

It's a dog whistle for what he intends to do with his presidency. Project 2025.

He already tried to steal one election based on fraud and lies and threats of violence.
Do you think if Trump is elected in 2024 MAGA Republicans will just go gently and quietly if they lose the Presidency 2028?
They will do everything they can, legal or illegal, to undermine fair free election before, during and after the vote.

How many hints and signs and evidence before you start copping onto it?

The Supreme Court justices he appointed lied to get confirmed by the Senate.

It is not just Trump, it is all the fascist MAGA Republicans at it.

I am. He said he intends to be a dictator and get rid of voting.

The real question is why are others not taking him seriously.

I can only see two reasons. Either they don't believe him, he is a liar, or he can't achieve what he wants, ie he is incapable of getting things done.

Pick one and then consider why that makes him a viable candidate for POTUS.

Trump isn’t done on the rise to power yet. He’s only a little past the Beer Hall Puscht stage.

It's a dog whistle for what he intends to do with his presidency. Project 2025.

Who is spreading conspiracy theories now

Who is this Project 2025, Trump has disavowed them.

"I know nothing about Project 2025," he posted on his social media website, Truth Social. "I have no idea who is behind it.

"I disagree with some of the things they're saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal."

Its just more hysterical Democrat mud throwing.

You think it's lazy to take the man at his literal word ?

Well are you going to take the man at his literal word ?

Its certainly an interesting parallel, and not AT ALL lazy.

Hitler's cabinet brought in the 'Law to Remedy the Distress of People and the Reich' in March 1933 and made President von Hindenburg, then a frail, old, sick man, sign it. Effectively sidelining himself in the process.

Hitler effectively became all-powerful in summer 1934, when he fully abolished the Presidency on Hindenburg's death. And it's estimated political violence from 1922 to 1933 which led to that event, only saw the deaths of about 1,500. An extraordinary number compared to the *75 Million* deaths his rule precipitated between 1934 and 1945.

So with Hitler, as possibly with Trump and his backers in the shadows, nobody really saw it coming.

he doesn’t remember 140+ cabinet and administration members of his that all wrote Project 2025?

    https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/07/11/politics/trump-allies-project-2025

He doesn’t remember endorsing Heritage and Project 2025 in 2022?

Does he know his VP wrote the foreword for the lead architect of Project 2025?

    https://www.newsweek.com/jd-vance-kevin-roberts-project-2025-book-foreword-1929753

Was he lying then or is he lying now? Is this proof of his cognitive decline that he can’t remember all these people?

He was present at the commissioning conference where the Republican party set up the team who wrote it. He praised it at the time in a speech to that conference.

So he is either senile and forgot or he is lying. Again if you do not agree the video of him at that ceremony is here on this thread.

So cute that you take the man who created and promoted a vast conspiracy theory about the 2020 election at his word.

He has no idea who he behind it?

It is put together by former members of his administration, from the Heritage Foundation who have close ties to Trump and his VP. If Trump doesn't know who these people are, is he senile? Well?

Is he senile or lying? You're very quick to accuse Democrats of such things but when it comes to Republicans you clam up. Why is that? Where's your posts if you actually care about such things?

Six of his former Cabinet secretaries helped write or collaborated on the 900-page playbook for a second Trump term published by the Heritage Foundation. Four individuals Trump nominated as ambassadors were also involved, along with several enforcers of his controversial immigration crackdown. And about 20 pages are credited to his first deputy chief of staff. In fact, at least 140 people who worked in the Trump administration had a hand in Project 2025.

If he doesn't know anything about it, how can he say what parts he does and doesn't approve of?

And what are the parts he does approve it?

Typical weasel words and speaking out of both sides of his mouth from Trump.

But as always, no matter how much Trump lies and deceives, no matter how reprehensible his conduct, someone comes along to defend him, and quelle surprise, will claim not to be a Trump defender.

Here's the truth about Trump's lies. What deflection will you try next in your non-supporting defence of Trump?

And if there's no answer to this post, it will be proof positive you can't defend over your own posts, proof positive they contain nothing but equivocations and deflections and repetitions of Trump's lies.

He wants to defund the DoJ and the FBI.

    That in itself is worrying.

Let's just put this to bed one last time.

    Trump is either

A: clearly lying about his knowledge of who is behind Project 2025

    Or

B: so incredibly inept as a potential president that some of his closest advisors are doing this behind his back, and he didn't suspect a thing

That's it. It's literally A or B here. A binary choice. Look at the forces behind Project 2025.

    Source:

    https://www.snopes.com/news/2024/07/11/project-2025-explained/

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts launched Project 2025 in April 2022, a few months before Trump officially announced his reelection campaign.

Since then, the number of groups backing the initiative has grown. As of now, Project 2025's advisory board and so-called "coalition partners" include: the Conservative Partnership Institute (CPI), a nonprofit that aims to connect conservative applicants to congressional jobs and is led by Trump's former chief of staff, Mark Meadows; Turning Point USA, a far-right student advocacy group that is led by Charlie Kirk; America First Legal, a legal advocacy group that supports conservative-backed lawsuits and is led by Trump stalwart Stephen Miller. (According to a June 2024 Politico report, Miller was part of private meetings with Trump to help him prepare for upcoming televised debates against Biden.)

Furthermore, in May 2024, Reuters interviewed what the news outlet described as unnamed Trump allies working on a plan to restructure the Department of Justice (DOJ) and fill currently nonpartisan jobs there with people who identify as conservatives. While the allies group wasn't named, Reuters reported it was tied to Project 2025.

Lastly, many authors of the roughly 1,000-page document outlining Project 2025's policy proposals have connections to Trump. They include Ben Carson, William Perry Pendley, Jonathan Berry, Diana Furchtgott-Roth, Rick Dearborn, Adam Candeub, Ken Cuccinelli, Mandy Gunasekara, Dennis Dean Kirk, Gene Hamilton, Christopher Miller, Bernard L. McNamee, Mora Namdar, Peter Navarro, Roger Severino, Paul Dans, Kevin Roberts, among others.

Come on man, what more do you need?! How do you believe Trump over all this evidence?!

is it though. Is he not approaching it like eating an elephant ie a little bit at a time and u will get there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,216 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Let me see if I have this correct. When he says he knows nothing about Project 2025, he is telling the truth and should be believed.

But when he says he wants to be a dictator and get rid of voting then he is obviously lying and we can ignore that.

But when we were in the offstage announce tent, I was part of a conversation — I was in — I was in the vicinity of a conversation where I overheard the President say something to the effect of, you know, I - - I don't effing care that they have weapons.

They're not here to hurt me. Take that effing mags away. Let my people in. They can march to the Capitol from here. Let the people in. Take the effing mags away.

    A) If he knew that supporters were packing guns, didn't care and wanted them to march to the Capitol anyway, then he wasn't particularly bothered about the possibility of perpetrating violence against government officials, law enforcement or anyone else those supporters deemed to be against them.

    B) If he wasn't simply, as you say, clever enough to know what could happen, despite having the information posted above, then he must have the intellect of a 3 year old child.

Anyone care to do an audit of the Constitutions of Countries who also believed they were immune from the threat of the rise of a malign dictatorship?

    Nothing is impossible. Noth-ing.
