I couldn't find hop house last couple of years, was told it was only served in the bars down on the lawn by house, way too far to walk for a beer 😀

That's good to know, I'll find it this year 😉

I missed last year...but I remember at that spot used to be the airstream van, rockabilly style, dance floor in front...they did savage cocktails. Are they gone now?

It's by far the worst aspect of ATN. Rockshore lager and cider is brutal. Guinness is fine but I wouldn't be skulling it all day, especially if it's hot.

On the bar situation, I usually drink wine due to allergies/intolerances, white specifically. The bars at ATN serve it warm from the counter, €9 a pop. No fridges, no ice available. Obviously I do bring my own but inevitably run out over the 3 days. It drives me mad! At every MCD gig I've been to (Fairview Park, Malahide, Trinity this summer and St Anne's in previous summers) the wine is chilled and the bar will give ice no problem. At the Iveagh Gardens recently it was the same set up as ATN, warm wine, no ice. When I queried it I was told I was lucky to be getting a drink at all. Last year at ATN, at the bar at the main arena I was told I'd have to go to the Schweppes tent if I wanted ice. Cheapskates!!

I didn't see any dogs there last year, was this Friday morning?

There was no stout at Beyond the Pale, so I'm just glad we'll be able to have a few pints of cold Guinness.

Friday around noon......guards were acting the bollix in arena aswell. Randomly going up to people coming out of cubicals and asking them to open their wallet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭crl84

Yep, a few dogs when we were coming into general camping around midday Friday, saw a few people getting pulled over. Everyone was being funnelled into a narrow-ish pinchpoint after the wristbands/bag check, so it was hard to avoid them if you weren't paying attention. We had only brought in tent and booze on the first run, went back out to the car around 1pm and when we came back there was only 1 dog that we saw, and it was circling someone, so was easier to avoid.

A few in our extended group were pulled for searches after coming out of portaloos at various times.

Yeah, im doing Saturday to Monday aswell. Other option was Friday to Sunday night and head after Future Islands but want to hang around for Slowdive.

Ye whatever about the dogs...but I found the cubicle stuff was madness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭taramurf

If my memory serves me well, they got rid of the airstream and other bars from the avenue last year and replaced them with lots of charity stalls and vendors and a long line of portaloos. I used to love that stretch for a sit down and a drink, but now there’s not much fun there.

jeez the garda stories from last year are grim. havent seen that in 5 visits to EP. hopefully they loosen up a bit this year. the cubicle thing is very odd, saw them do something similar at FF in june. Banging down the door telling a lad inside to hurry on etc then searched him once he left.

depends on the whim of local superintendents in Waterford

Going in on the Thursday evening last year the only thing I was asked was if I had any glass bottles. Didn't even bother looking at my bag. No garda presence at that stage.

Ye we went in Thursday and was no guards but it ramped up on the Friday.

There was none at the boutique campsite entrance either at lunchtime Friday. Were waved straight through, zero searches. Just asked if we had any glass.

I came to the conclusion years ago that a wheel barrow is your best bet for getting your gear in and out of a festival site. It has its drawbacks though. I was wondering if anyone has tried the foldable trolley in Dunnes or could recommend a foldable trolley please 🙏🏼

Have they given any commitment to preparing the ground much better than last year in the event of heavy rain?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,866 ✭✭✭Dreamweapon

Weren't there last year. A big loss imo. They followed the template that all good cocktails bars should; rockabilly and/or funk soundtrack staffed by a bunch of hedonists who are as off their mallet as the punters. A recipe for success and good times!

    I'm a Rock n Roll Amputation

Won't allow me to post a link, but they acknowledged it'd be better to be proactive instead of reactive in an Examiner article from back in March

I vaguely remember seeing somewhere last year that wood chippings were in their planner, but went unused, hoping they'll be prepped incase it does pour again

Yeah I read through the article again there, he said all the right things anyway. Looking forward to these "hard standing paths". We never heard much more about these new stages, maybe there counting that acoustic stage as one of them.

Are the camper van tickets available to transfer on ticketmaster yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 Sunny1990

Can anyone advise which pre pitched campsites are nearest to the caravan site? Our friends are staying here and we don’t want to be too far away. Couldnt get a caravan ticket!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,907 ✭✭✭✭MJohnston

Going by this, it looks like Basecamp will be the closest pre-pitched to the caravan site

Though this map doesn't indicate where Camplight or Pink Moon are, but I'm fairly sure they'll not be any closer.

Brilliant, thanks a mill! Is that supposed to reflect this years map? Wasn’t too sure if they would have changed much from lasts years map!

Does it need to be foldable? If not I'd recommend a sack trolley. We got a basic one years ago, maybe around 2012 or even earlier and it's done every EP since plus forest fest and a few ATN. I think we got it from either b&q or homebase, one like this:

    https://www.homebase.co.uk/heavy-duty-p-handle-trolley-200kg/14975444.html

Also I'd recommend a head torch for ATN. A lot of the blocks of portaloos don't have a light above them and at night when you go inside and close the door it's pitch black.

What was in the location of the AVA Immerse stage last year if anything? Some sponsor bar?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,947 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

It'll be a Smirnoff bar. The one at BTP was pretty good and near a similar kind of dance stage.

Edit: BTP was absolut but ATN will be Smirnoff

I guess it doesn’t have to be foldable. Those stack ones definitely do the job very nicely indeed too but I worry about people tripping over it at night unless I leave it back in the car. That’s the main reason I was thinking of moving away from the barrow…having to bring it back to the car and then having to go get it on Sunday/Monday morning.

    +1 regarding the head torch!
