Shocking scenes again from these bogus 'peaceful protestors'.

How long more are the hard-working Paddys and Mohammads of this country going to have to put up with this?

I wonder what the cost of all this criminal activity has been over the past year or so, half a billion, a billion?

Private security costs alone for all the IPA centers in the country must be huge, not to mind the property destruction, damaging garda vehicles, attacking emergency services, deploying public order units etc.

How many homes and services could have been provided with this money?

I think it's long since passed time to clamp down. I'm not one normally for long prison sentences, apart from violent and sexual crime, but the public cost here is huge, and they won't seem to stop regardless of how rejected they've been at the ballot box. Maybe ankle bracelets might help, should be easy to monitor when groups of these chancers start congregating and lock them up for a spell?

Time to bring in the hate-speech bill too to tackle the keyboard warriors egging them on online.

Don't think there is enough prison space for those who are just out to commit crime when peaceful protesters are involved, There is Thornton Hall but our "leaders" want to make that an IPA place so that's an issue not getting resolved.

Why would we need the hate speech bill especially for online. We have "The Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020 (commonly referred to as “Coco’s Law”) came into force in February 2021, and is now the primary piece of legislation governing various types of online harassment.

Harassing someone online, via email, text/ direct message, tweet or video is now governed by section 4 of the 2020 Act, and is punishable by a prison sentence of up to 2 years. The advantage of using this act, rather than the 1997 Act, is that the harassment doesn’t have to be “persistent” – ie a single post can be enough for the offence to be committed."

The government listen to the ballot box.

There is an election coming in 3 months time.

Do you think these acts of mindless thuggery lose or gain the government votes? Simple question.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Do folks think an election will change anything about our immigration policies? Doesn’t matter who is in government, we will still be taking in refugees and we will still need to house them in areas.

Drew Harris would want to watch that he doesn't start losing even more credibility. Not the most popular in some sections of the Gardaí and treading silly ground on RTE news reports over the protests in Coolock. He echoed McEntee that a significant problem is 'misinformation & disinformation' being spread on social media. This phrase was parroted by RTE several times but when during a report, Harris was asked to explain 'misinformation & disinformation', it was just ignored. So what exactly was this 'misinformation & disinformation' that was spread on social media? Members of the public sharing news that workers had arrived at the site earmarked for 500 asylum seekers and that people were gathering to protest? What exactly is 'misinformation & disinformation' concerning this type of social media use? As he said himself, it wasn't a secret that the site was to be developed for this purpose. Reads to me that this 'misinformation & disinformation' slur is a handy label to throw out, in the same sentence as 'far right', when the public oppose what the state wants to do.

RTE then proceeded to list the names, addresses and occupations of several people arrested. All typical Irish names of the general area. The only odd one was a Philip Dwyer of Tallaght, he being the chap who goes around filming such protests. Assuming that's what he was doing, videoing the Gardaí public order units and not throwing bricks at them, why would he be arrested. Is it now a crime to record what is happening?? What future for any sort of journalist if the state can label them as spreading 'misinformation & disinformation' if they don't like what's being reported??

Contrast this with another story quietly buried by RTE yesterday: https://www.rte.ie/news/2024/0715/1459998-atm-investigation/

Who were these men, real criminals caught thieving? They are Calin Scintei of CityWest, Manoli Codrin of no fixed abode and Mariaus Crisan of Swords, in their 20s, one at least needs an interpreter. Prime examples of the sort of young thieving criminals arriving here, being put up as guests of the nation and then repaying us by robbing us??

Maybe Drew Harris would be better off doing his job to stop the inflow of criminality into the state and arranging for swift deportation, than accusing local communities of spreading 'misinformation & disinformation' :(

councilor Quinlan did absolutely nothing wrong. he remonstrated with the garda . and was walking away with his back turned when he was attacked multiple times by the gardai .

There was no violence in the vicinity at all.

unless passionate speaking is a crime - why was he attacked?

that the gardai can do this to anybody is thuggery but to an elected rep adds extra concerns to the disgusting show.

the full video is available online from multiple angles so if you see anything that warranted the attack on Quinlan , please advise.

another video of a man being beaten by two gardai.

he stopped told the gardai he was on his way home. offered no resistance.

was kinda rugby tackled by the first and beaten several times with a baton by a second garda . they only stopped when residents of the property climbed on their back wall to shout at and observe the gardai.

there are other cases too , all on video.

utter scumbag behaviour from the gardai in their treatment of citizens. nothing sort of a disgrace,.

yes there was crime yesterday and violence but the gratuitous nature of the garda retaliation (cos that is what it was) is disgusting.

They had no self control for whatever reason beat everybody not just agitators.

Typically you are only worried about the cost of things when it suits you.

Could argue for a more robust immigration system as well but then that does not suit your agenda either.

I think they dont affect it either way . Ballot box ? Which political party would do different than whats being done by FF/FG/Greens now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭Repro212

Absolutely. And a new party for Ireland rising up on the back of such marches, with the Danish model front and centre of it's manifesto. We need a fresh approach in so many areas. Not left leaning or right leaning, just a common sense approach.

Currently, we have politicians, their media puppets and business bedfellows at the wheel, running red lights in pursuit of more money and power. Meanwhile, the right on brigade, filled with hatred for their own people, are trying to shame those of us who can see what's coming and want to stop the bus. We are careering toward an economic crash in the medium term and minority status in the longer term. There are no good outcomes.

And by the way, I'm on holiday as well.

That site is prime site to build apartments for people. It's gas the government keep banging on about communication, and consulting local communities. But it's meaningless.

500+ will be place here and nothing will stop the government. Tough luck on the local community.

I’ve seen that video of the man being rugby tackled to the ground and beaten.

He’s literally standing against a wall, gard rugby tackles him to the ground and another gard proceeds to beat him with a bat.

In no sane world or supposed democracy is this acceptable.

Blame the protestors yes, but the government and the gards have a lot to answer for also.

Wow how this country has rapidly fell apart so quickly.

There is just no common sense here. You can't say no without been a racist, if you accept it your a bleeding heart leftie. There needs to be a conversation, concerns listened to and solutions found. You can't force 1,000's of undocumented immigrants onto communities.

The judge told the builder he'd have been better off working, the hairdresser has no fixed abode which is clearly legit and another 2 on welfare. What a motley band of criminals they are with the brave "citizen journalist" Dwyer filming away.

Of course that kind of anarchic protesting will affect votes. Most people don't like to see buildings being burned by thickos.

You have all the answers. You tell me who would implement a workable immigration policy.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Either way. Letting people en mass is not too popular with the public. And id say most realise it leads to this chaos eventually.

To be honest. I think it just highlights the ineptitude of this government and previous.

Calling people far right is a joke at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,535 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

I don't use the term far right. I find it utterly meaningless.

This government is truly inept. One of the worst ever. But it doesn't change the fact that these acts of arson play into their hands.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

So how many real protesters were there in Cooklock yesterday .

Based on photos it looks like a vast majority are teens and young men in there 20s.

Cos the French know how to riot, and do it a lot over most any issue the Govt. tries to bring in. Would make any riot in Ireland look like a minor scuffle..

MOst of the posters on this thread support that protest secretly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,142 ✭✭✭prunudo

Its the latest buzz word and phrase to discredit people with opposing views. The authorities treating the citizens with contempt, thinking they're above us, so obviously we must be misinformed.

Surely some in government or behind the scenes need to be asking to put a stop to this immigration policy, surely they can't be that far out of touch.

Bang of upper class off this report or what?

is it normal for people with Dublin accents to be quoted phonetically? Yiz, yous etc.

I’d imagine it would not go down well if anyone, let alone the state broadcaster, did the same to someone with an accent from Africa.

Also bare in mind, that happened in the afternoon, and with the indiscriminate pepper spraying of people up at the crown paints site itself earlier in the morning, both would have rallied more people to come out later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭Quags

I 100% support the protest, but I dont support what the little scumbags done. Major difference in what started as concerns to what it ended in, I fully believe half the lads seen their mates going and went with them and wanted trouble.

Same way some posters on this thread think that concerned citizens want anybody who isn't Irish out, no we want a control on who comes in and if they have previous major crimes like murder/rape. Ireland like the rest of the EU will always have those from a poorer place come to their country and make a better life for them and work for that while contribute to that country and that's great cause helps with growth & economy but then you get absolute wasters who come in and engage in activity that is not legal.

Also before you or anyone says "Well Irish do that" we all know but they are native scum and very hard to stop that

Scenes of civil unrest and the response from some is "we need a hate speech bill". Very sad and scary times
