183k listens on Spotify. Respectable, but not in any way Glasto Headliner material. Puts them at around Kasabian, Bloc Party territory, who would never be in the frame to headline the Pyramid.

Great summation. There were definitely some errors/miscalculations with the placement of some of the acts alright. I didn't see The Sugababes but they maxed out Avalon 2 years ago so they should have moved them to a different stage than West Holts. While WH is one of the larger stages it is such a traffic jam with lots of smaller areas there which draw many people. That decision was madness.

There have been some serious crowding issues at The Other Stage over the years (Rumours of an Oasis reunion at Liam Gallaghar's 2017 set for example). Was up by the barriers for "Nothing But Thieves" (They were our beachballs) and trying to get out of there was a nightmare. Spent about 20 mins trying to get to the nearest path. Ended up in the middle of the food stalls and then took another 20 mins trying to get out (Eventually got out by The Glade). That was insane. She was one of the most anticipated acts (Whether you liked her or not) and would have been MUCH more suited to play after/before Shania Twain on The Pyramid.

Scouting For Girls at The Acoustic was another overcrowding issue. Have never seen it that bad.

I don't believe there are too many people there but there were some serious organisation miscalculations that need to be addressed. Some are unavoidable: Acts/line-ups are determined months in advance and some acts have a breakout hit that suddenly propels them into a MUCH larger audience. But some CAN be arranged better. There does seem to be more of a focus on one-upping the previous year with regards to spectacle. Especially on Friday/Saturday nights. Assuming they got Madonna for Sunday night, Madonna/The National would actually have been a good balance. She would have had a HUGE draw of course but The National also have a large and dedicated fanbase. But previously there was always the dreaded clash. Of course there are still multiple clashes but they don't seem as… heartbreaking as before :)

Obviously many of the acts are already planned for next year and some line-up positions will already be locked into place but they DO need to plan better in the fallow year (Confirmed 2026)

Speaking of crowds/planning though, I know they are commenting on the crowd for SZA being small but my god there was a tiny crowd for The Idles. I was shocked. We were at The Acoustic for The Bootleg Beatles and wandered past The Idles at The Other and the crowd barely reached the back of the soundstage and didn't seem all that packed even there. Have never seen such a small headline crowd

Apart of course, from when Kasabian actually headlined it.

Was referenced a lot in articles about SZA's set being the lowest attended apparently since...

It's funny I was reading your review on efestivals.co.uk and before I reached the end I was thinking "I bet he's Irish".

    Good write up.

The overcrowding seems to be a relatively recent phenomenon. I've noticed people highlighting it since Covid.

I'm not sure of the reason. Is there just simply more people going. I think there's been a slight increase but not huge numbers. Some people have suggested lots of people sneaking in but I don't think it's possible.

I think they have to do something about the SE corner anyway. Either expand it or provide an attractive alternative or both.

I've been a few times before Covid and you could just stroll around everywhere including the SE corner without queuing or crushes or anything.

I think some years like 07 or 08 Glastonbury didn't even sell out which is crazy. This was just before smartphones, Instagram, social media etc..

As far as having random conversations and interactions with strangers, that's what Glastonbury is all about. Maybe you just met the wrong people at the wrong time.

I found myself I could just wander around and just chat to people and I'm fairly introverted. I'm good at reading people though so I know who's up for craic or not. Some people have a big group of friends with them so are just content with them.

I even hooked up with an English lady one year.

Do the fighter jets still do flyovers in the morning?

No fighter jets this year but Red Arrows buzzed the Pyramid before Little Simz.

Ha! I was always under the impression in the 90s that it was done as more of an aggressive thing. Piss off the hippies kinda vibe😄

Oh was that it?! Thought it was Thursday. Makes sense though, was back at the tent before Simz.

Ha yes in the past i've also gotten that impression. Sonic boom rattling the crusties craic.

assuming that doesnt include a ticket either

I saw online someone had posted a video of their posh camping and it was 5k for the week. It was nice to be fair and all food included but very much goes against the original ethos of the festival. I think it was an external operator and not organised by the festival itself

If you had the absolute line up of a lifetime, that 5k wouldn't be that bad a price(although i have my doubts about exactly what this VIP Bar behind main stage is)

Gives the impression you could be sipping on champers next to music legends. Maybe you could, or they could be in an all together different "VIP" section

Yeah, I'd probably like a bit of that comfort in fairness.. someone above mentioned how good a shower felt at Glastonbury having not had one for a few days, and that's where I'd be at…

I reckon if it ever happens it'd be a camper van being the best option for comfort v cost..

Hence my "more money than sense" comment.. 😀

I just received the same email..

yeah I'll go for it, but only if I win the lotto this weekend..

I've been in that bar backstage. Sat beside King's of Leon.

It's a soulless industry type place full of coked up music execs and journos.

5k isn't bad btw. Guaranteed a ticket and posh camping. Some of them are twice that.

and just to add to this… Kasabian have a back catalogue of absolute bangers….

I remember seeing them about 10 years ago at Forbidden Fruit, and was amazed by their set as it was banger after banger and I knew them all (having not really taken too much notice of them at that time)…

I wonder was their set last weekend a sort of a re-rehearsal to be headliners again but with Serge as the frontman…

Fair going Still Ill, 120km is pretty much a half marathon a day for six days!! You must work out!!

Really interested in what you said about volunteering. Was talking to someone last Friday who said her daughter was volunteering with Oxfam and they were taking in Squeeze on the Pyramid Stage as we spoke. Got me thinking as I have been trying for tickets (unsuccessfully!!) for far longer than I care to remember.

You obviously think volunteering is the way to go. So I think it is 3x 8 hour shifts?? Pot luck I presume as to when these are over the week. Was looking at Oxfam as an option. Any idea what this is like?? To work in a bar I assume you need decent bar experience?? Final thing, is it all young ones that volunteer or do some more aged ones like myself (pushing 50 cough, cough!!) give it a go too. Just weighing things up and if my luck (or lack thereof!!) continues I reckon this is the only way to make it to Worthy Farm.

Any wisdom or advice greatly appreciated.

They were massive back around 2008/9 or so when French electro was mainstream. Check out "Cross", their biggest album by far.
