The summer solstice occurs tomorrow at 9:50pm. The earliest summer solstice since 1796.

Sunny but still freezing. Only 14c still. What does it take to get to 17c this Summer. Northerly now a NWesterly.

actually quite warm here now in the north east and actually hot when sheltered from the breeze

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭Billcarson

Considering how warm the planet has been the last 12 months in particular on land and oceans overall would it be that much of a surprise if ireland did record its highest ever temperature this summer? Would it not be at least a possible consequence of climate change if it did happen? Yes I'm sure the media would hype it up but I'd rather not break our record anyway.

The gloom has steadily pushed its way in here, west mayo, thick low level grey gloom approaching further out to seaand a cold sea breeze has whipped up,so thats the day done, nice while it lasted, overcast again tomorrow, and wet friday.

    Beautiful day here in Dublin

The seas could be boiling over and Ireland would still fail to break its record. This is really shaping up to be an atrocious summer. Excuse me now, i have to put the heat on ,a winter fleece and turn the lights on, its become so dark with the low level pig stratus gloom shield sucking out all the mid summer light.

We had a few days during May which were over 17 in fairness but I know what you mean

ECM still giving us a nice blast of heat for next week. As is UKMO.

@Gonzo Is it just the GFS as the outlier here, or am i seeing this wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭Billcarson

Don't like the heat anyway so it doesn't really bother me. Don't understand people putting heating on at this time of Yr. Never even crossed my mind in weeks to put the heat on. My house is south facing so that helps I guess.

The Irish record will be broken sooner or later, just a matter of time.......

This is correct. His forecasts are essentially an interpretation of the GFS 0z most of the time but not all of the time.

To answer a previous comment I missed also as I was offline, yes I fill in for him on Irish Weather Online occasionally and do the odd post but then I have long down periods because I cannot be bothered with some of the nonsense people come out with anymore. I did stat posts for a few months a while back but they were always a magnet for climate change denial so I just stopped doing them. It's a bit different here on Boards. Winter 2023-24 killed a lot of my motivation with disaster after disaster so I gave up on teleconnections or anything of the sort which I said you won't be hearing from me anymore and well the weather has just been either poor or benign for far too long, there's nothing really to talk about.

Always love your stats syran. I see your latest is that June in the uk so far is the 13th coldest on record. ( from Mark Vogan on YouTube he mentioned you regarding that stat).

    Temps for tonight 6-10 degrees.

We've had warmer nights in November.

Woke up freezing this morning. Considering continental europe and the US are getting record breaking temps, I'm surprised but not crying about it as I dont like hot weather.

Thanks, FWIW I have always found your input excellent on IWO but unfortunately FB is a cesspit

Last summer was atrocious. I doubt this summer will be as bad. Think you should take a mini trip to the east coast where you’ll see more sun and less gloomy conditions. It will do you the world of good. Keep the faith re this summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭Billcarson

A total cesspit. Got told by a denier today in a comment section as i replyed to someone who claimed more records were broken 100 yrs ago then nowadays that there was no hope for me and was I up to date with my jabs. That's the kind of pathetic stuff they come out with.

There’s absolutely no point arguing with them. Absolute wasted energy.

It's cool. But the average June minimum in Ireland is around 9º. So it's not that far off what would be expected for mid June.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭compsys

I love your stats too Syran. There should be a dedicated thread for you where people can ask you about weather stats etc.

I have a stats q though - what was the average daily high for Dublin this May?

Yes it does rain a lot in Galway but not all the time. May and June have been very dry. May and June last year were very dry. The cold isn't bothering me in the slightest. I adore this time of year with the bright evenings. Today was indeed a beautiful day. Nationwide I'd say. I will try and be gloomier though.

Tracking the min temperatures most of the Winter June has had nearly as many nights with single digit temperatures as December.

Today must have passed 17c as it felt warmer and when I looked at thermometer at 6pm it was at 16.7c.

Next week will be early 20s for a few days before the next green slime and Arctic blast for July. However unlike June there's not much cold around anywhere in July so itl probably be 16c instead of 12c.

There's still room for a couple of hot spells though even if they are short they are memorable when they come.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I get where your coming from Cluedo but I really feel the long evenings have been a waste this yearso far in June because its not pleasant being outside in evening relatively speaking.

We are in garden most evening with 2 year old but you certainly wouldn't be sitting down enjoying it, and wind has been so strong it's a coat you need most evenings as hoodie not warm enough.

Yesterday was so chilly I actually forgot it was summer and jumped when I looked out the window at 9.40pm and not yet dark!

Big dirty lumps of heavy rain and cool next week on the 18z gfs. Typical gfs, throwing out settled warm weather for the end of June for the last 10 days, looks like it's all unravelling,
