Cracking start in Galway. Blue skies.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Cloudy with sunny spells so far in Wicklow. Warmth in the sun when it comes out but good gardening weather.

Nice start in Tralee too. Bright and sunny. 😎

Much brighter here in Donaghmede with just fair weather high cloud at the moment. Can see all the cumulus further south and west. Dublin and Wicklow coasts doing well. Looks wonderful in the west.

is that cloud down the east coast gonna shift it’s ugly ass today?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,068 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Fairly dissapointing today sky full of cloud, hoping it will break up soon.

Overcast and cool in the Northerly breeze in Lucan. Still decent weather for gardening though, so not too bad. There was some nice sunshine up to 9am, but dark clouds now.

A lovely morning has turned into a beautiful afternoon near Ardagh, County Longford. The cuckoo is singing, the buzzards are calling and the swallows are chirping away. Lovely first day of summer, will get a tan whilst I do some gardening.

Lovey and sunny by the sea in south county Dublin. Anyone within around 5km of the sea in Dublin seems to be doing well with the sun today. Cloudier further west.

Second day of pure blue skies in west cork - bliss!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Brightened up in South Wicklow around midday and it's been clear blue skies here until about 20 minutes ago when it clouded over a bit. Glorious day to be out doing a bit of work

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,068 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Cloud eventually broke up around 3pm and a lovely evening now.

Lovely bright sunny day here in Kerry.

High of just 16.4C in a cool NW breeze but glorious all the same.

Stubborn cloud flirting with the east, southeast and northeast coast 🙄 by the looks of it on satellite , lovely here in carrick but cool enough in that breeze

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,112 ✭✭✭Mr.Wemmick

Beautiful blue skies and sunshine north east, but it’s too cold for me. Need more warmth.

third day of blue skies in west cork, warm out of the breeze.

This spell of high pressure has been dissapointing here in Meath, mostly cloudy yesterday and a nice evening and this morning was lovely but cloudy since 1pm and the high pressure is already now on the move. A pleasant weekend overall but poor compared to the 3 week run of lovely weekends in May.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,397 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Lovely day in Galway. There is heat in those clouds. We are in peak grass growth now.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭Hippodrome Song Owl

Yeah, we nearly got a sunny "day" in Dublin but it was spread across Sat (4pm onwards) and Sun (up to 2pm)! Not a bad weekend, just not as lovely as expected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭Kutebride

Gorgeous morning on Great Sugar Loaf, Wicklow.

Pleasant Tshirt weather after midday in RoundWood.

All overcast and grey now back in Meath.

Complete opposite here in tipp, smashing weekend with nearly clear blue skies throughout, badly wanted after what was a very poor may around these parts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,170 ✭✭✭squarecircles

Grey, misty, cool, drizzlely gloom, buried in a thick layer of an unending flow of stratus misery that sucks the colour out of everything.

Classic Irish June evening…and its going to get worse.

All you wud need now are the midges and somebody to start spreading pig slurry.

I'd be one of the people on this thread accused of unrealistic Irish weather expectations but I'd actually be very pleased with recent weather, this weekend included and am surprised by the many complaints here by disappointed weather enthusiasts.

Yesterday I sat out for less than 2 hours, sans sun protection, and actually got scalded! Now I'm of sallow complexion and very used to strong sun abroad so never expected such a reaction. The temps in Kerry yesterday were meant to be around 17ish but I'd say easily 20C + in my back garden to say I got burned like that. Today was forecast for cloud but sun came out about 12 noon and stayed til about 5 when the clouds rolled in, but those 5 or 6 sunny hours were glorious. And very hot again in my garden, I covered up this time.

I dunno but sometimes I wonder is the south west the new sunny south east? We've done very well lately, no complaints at all.

it was cloudy in south Tipp from about 3pm yesterday. Was beautiful weekend up to that.

    Overcast in Meath today.

Drizzle on and off this evening.

The uv index is not directly correlated to the temperature (although naturally higher temperatures generally mean higher UV).

We're only a few weeks from the longest day of the year and as such the sun is approaching the highest point in the sky, this means stronger UV rays irrespective of the temperature or weather conditions. Cloud cover will screen out some of that UV but a lot still gets through.

Awful day in Ros, cold grey and damp all day

Fine day in Greystones. Mostly cloudy but with a good few sunny spells. 18.4c atm which is also high of the day so far.

Grand couple of days in east clare. Some cloud but i wouldnt worry about that. Happy with 16/17/18 degrees type weather myself. Dry of course.

None of that stupid humid shyte that results in thunderstorms a few days later.

Got loads of gardening done this weekend.

Really enjoyed the weather over bank holiday weekend in Galway. Got loads done to the point that I need some work to rest. I'd say we only got about 5 mins of light rain.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Chilly start to the day. Heat was on at 6am. 12c, N Kildare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,194 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

A coincidence that the weather chart for 80 years ago today was quite similar to todays, a now famous weather report from Belmullet reported a front passing through and the D-Day landings were postponed by 24 hours and so went down in history as June 6 and not June 5.
Of course the front was more active and the weather more disturbed with lower pressure 80 years ago but as I’ve said the chart then was quite similar to this.

Cold, damp and windy here in Meath, could easily pass for early April.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭Hippodrome Song Owl

A heavy shower with some hail mixed in in Celbridge. And feeling much cooler in the last half hour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,194 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

an unusually active and squally cold front for the time of year passing through now, normally in June a cold front will more or less have fizzled out by the time it reaches the east coast.

    Hefty Downpour in N Kildare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭compsys

The past few days in Dublin have been fairly pleasant. Around 18º to 19º each day. Not much rain and a bit of sun. Typical early summer weather really.

Even today is OK. Partly cloudy with temps around 16º. Which is kind of bang on average for this early in June.

The next few days look poor alright. Especially further West.

But there are hints at something warmer for next week already. So fingers crossed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭Hippodrome Song Owl

It's fairly windy now in Celbridge from NW. Several large planters blown over here and some damaged shrubs. Rain has passed, and it has really brightened up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭Billcarson

Up in Donegal this week. Certainly chilly for June.
