Reseeding 2024

have have acres ploughed since sept weather broke and I got stuck with it. It’s heavy ground enough but hoping maybe next week the contractor could come back to get it harrowed out and sown. Il ring him next week see what he thinks. Will be sowing some oats alone with this as it was bird cover so will be weedy.

Also have another 5acres that need to be drained first got and the hedges tidied up and drains cleaned just need to get it shored also have a few piles of bushes to clear would usually burn them but it’s along a main road so we will see.

Multi species going in it first thing in the morning. Failed to do it last September when the weather broke.

that 12 acres if it’s new to you I would prob just tidy it up clean the main drains and then plough it I would monitor then over the next few years and see where the drainage is needed. That’s how I don’t a bit recently and the few wet spots that have appeared since it was ploughed I would have never knew they were there. I will go back now maybe this year add in some shores. (I did however close a main drain but I filled it to the top with stone.

that looks great how do the cattle perform on it? I was told last year that multi species needs very good dry land to grow right is that true or not ?? I know it is probably true with red clover

Sowed a small bit of chickory last year with some clover, once established it grows really well alright.

Neither really, it was some ground with furze that I had cleared with a digger, spread the seed on top and rolled it.

What kinda seed mix did you got with Boss??

I have ground of a peaty nature just need to get the seed into it this year. My ground wouldn’t be as good as that ground. I purchased the difficult soils mix from germinal and I got it without Timothy. What ever you do make sure not to get Timothy in the mix unless your plan is to make hay in it every year. Timothy is a horrible species never liked it

What would be the best spray to use to spray off old grass before reseeding?

What is the ball park cost to get a tillage field into standard grass this summer? Nothing being done by myself.

Only thing to note it's very bumpy where you cross over the tillage tracks

Application rates will be on the data sheet of whatever product you are using. Application rates can differ for different types of vegetation.

Totally agree, Im just saying its not cheap.

7-10 days for burning off

Allow a few days to get it tilled and sowed

6 weeks then to graze so yeah 2 months would be about right.

Of course the weather plays a huge part. A drought spell will add delays
