Trump is a rapist. Sorry if the truth hurts.

Grab em by the pussy. Did you forget that too?

What were your excuses during the Jean Carroll trial to defend Trump? Dutifully repeating Trumps false defamations well?

And Trump is on trial here for falsifying the hush money payments to Daniels. Thats why this is coming to trial. His fear of the moral bankruptcy being exposed coupled with his financial skullduggery so he could shove the hush money payment onto someone else - from a supposed billionaire! Cant pay his debts.

Attack and sully the witness because you cant actually defend the despicable scumbag that is the rapist Trump?

    The usual MAGA tactics.

What else can you do to support the morally, intellectually bankrupt and perhaps soon to be financially bankrupt Trump except attack.

Zero sympathy for Trump should be the order of the day.

Trump is a grown man too though you seem to give him a free pass for such conduct from Trump

Bit obvious isnt it even for a Trump supporter.

How about some condemnation of Trump for his conduct in all this or do you just reserve your harsh judgments for the people he messes about?

I am not sure she ever treatened him at the 2016 stage. Similar to a lot of sex with famous people stories, she was offering her story to newpapers during the 2016 election. Trump was agrranging to buy it to squash the publicity from it. Neither were doing anything illegal at that stage. The issue is he did not declared the money as campaign funding and he then wrote it off as a business expense when it was personnel spending, that is what he is on trial for.

    Thats it exactly.

Infidelity is not illegal. Paying money to that person is not illegal.

Telling the taxman this money is for legal services or part of campaign funds, when its for a private matter however is illegal. Thats what the case is about.

Hence why trump was praising Al Capone on multiple occasions. Guess what way he was finally caught and charged..

Just one other point on this.

The type of witnesses in this case are the people Trump associated with.

Pecker, a low life "journalist", Michael Cohen, a thug z-rated lawyer/enforcer, Karen McDougal, a playmate, Stormy Daniels, a porn star, Keith Davidson, another scummy lawyer.

You might not like or respect the witnesses, but this was the company he kept. These are the circles he moved in.

Nevermind the witnesses, wtf does that tell you about him?

Just a small clarification/opinion: Newspapers wouldn't have bought it - the Enquirer, an infamous grocery-store rag bought it. Same rag that publishes "Batboy fathered my child" "Bigfoot ate my cookies." That's how low she had to go to find a buyer. TFG should've just told Pecker to run the story and laughed it off as 'It's the Enquirer.'

Or, he could've hired her as special assistant for thumbtacks at $130k/year. No one would've noticed, heck, I imagine there's lots of prior art there at TrumpCo, at least, based on the types he hires as attorneys and 'special advisors.' Talentless but f*ckable.

It is projection, every insult Trump hurls, or gets his MAGA attack dogs to hurl… he is just trying to protect himself against the same insult being used (more validly) against him.

Because that's exactly how you expect a head of state to communicate. Considered, dignified, literate, sane.

To me it feels like he's so pent up that he can't criticise the judge, jury, witnesses, prosecutors etc, that now he's just picking anyone who was in the court that he knows the name of and taking it out on them.

If you're engaged enough to be going to vote in a primary at this stage, you're probably well enough engaged to remember Haley is a thing.

Saw an opinion piece a day or two ago that Trump is actively trying to get a day or three in jail. It would continue the persecution narrative he's running. Given the text I got from his campaign yesterday about how he might go to jail because of the "filthy Democrat judge", there might be something to the theory

Speaking of trump's competitors, this is a perfectly rational sentence

It's a pretty poor reflection on the system if it cannot have a trial about a vote in a four year cycle before the next vote.

But how exactly does having an affair with a member of staff give reason for an appeal? Not a good look admitedly and distracting for the news coverage, but not seeing how it has anything to do with the Trump case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,572 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

It's allowing you (the person running the case) to be the center of attention. It's a rookie mistake. Indicting so many people too was crazy if a speedy trial was required.

Ah come on. We see in the documents case, and even in the fact that Trump has now 10 contempt of court charges with no real penalty that it really doesn't matter what they do. Trump, despite all the calls from the MAGAs that he is fighting the elites, is very much a protected person and they will do as much as possible to see everything dragged out.

You think if some drug dealer or fraudster had claimed that an affair between two prosecutors meant that trial should be delayed would have gotten even as far as a judge to rule on it?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,146 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

Which makes it sound like Trumps appeal basis would be "I should be first item on the news, not her, so unfair"?

If it was the Stormy Daniels case then there might be some relevance, in that that case started with an affair as well. But that is actually a case about accounting, not infidelity which is just the reason for the dodgy accounting.

Infidelity has nothing to do with an election fraud case though.

    the appearance of impropriety.

Prosecutors are held to a high standard, holding offices of public trust - particularly high public trust, such as the nature of presenting evidence to grand juries and having it taken at that stage to be assumed factual and undisputed.

as such it’s very important, even imperative that DAs keep their noses cleaner than most other mortals.

100% , it's also illegal election interference as by blocking that story he was preventing the voters from knowing important information that could have influenced the outcome of the election.

But the POTUS isn't? It clearly double standards and there is very little they could have done differently to avoid this, or something else being brought up. From the off Trump has declared this a witchhunt, and the affair was just the tool they used to get further delays,

Trump doesn't care about the affair, and not for one second does he think that them having an affair has any bearing on his trial. In hidsight, I bet if they knew this was going to be such an issue they wuld wish never to have started. But, and it must be repeated, they did nothing wrong and despite a hearing there is no evidence that they have done anything wrong.

Trump has used her gender, her race and her political leanings to claim its all a sham. This is just the latest wheeze and the courts are giving him special treatment by even entertaining such an claim.

He is absolutely getting better treatment than any other defendant.

    I'm not saying otherwise.

I am saying that when running a case against a guy with considerable resources, the scrutiny of the country as he is the front runner for becoming the president of the country for a second time, that it is imperative that you are extremely careful in how the case is presented and ran.

Georgia ****ed up by indicating a massive amount of defendants, which made the case entirely unweildy. This was always unlikely to be heard before the election as a result. This was a choice! Secondly, to involve yourself with your chief prosecutor was beyond naive!

In relation to the documents case, you have a judge who is clearly biased, but the question then becomes why the **** did the prosecution bring the case in Florida and not in new jersey?

    Again, a prosecutorial error.

Trump certainly does get preferential treatment, which is frustrating but understandable, but that doesn't mean the prosecution hasn't made significant errors.
