Revenue will do what ever the Department of Finance tells them to do. The simpler the better. Which is throw a Media Tax on top of the LPT.

And that will solve the problem of RTÉ :) happy days.

Noel and Bobson will be kept in oyster dinners.

The big issue is the fake self employments. Forgetting about the backdated PRSI payments, with interest and penalties. The cost of back funding the pension schemes will be astronomical.

The are forgetting that the collection rate will be close to 100% if included in LPT and Revenue doing the collection. Also, there will probably be little on no 'cost' to collect money, unlike An Post who take about 8%.

AFAIR I think somebody suggest that An Post would be given a subvention from the government on the lose of the collection of the licence fee.

The issue of An Post is a very political issue, that no one thinks about.

How many people have been laid off or took voluntary redundancy since they announced they'd have to lose a quarter of the staff?

Why was Ray D'Arcy given another million euro contract recently, when he would have done it for 400k?

Nothing is changing, and nothing will change unless people outside rte make the decisions.

If any have I'd not be surprised that many returned after a year or two.

Every second ad on the radio is either from a state owned entity or sponsored by the Government of Ireland, i have not bought a news paper in years , i imagine they are similar, this "encourages" the media to support the Government position on many things, or the Ad money will be pulled, very little dissent in Irish media these days from Government policy.

I suspect the Government are going to bring in a new all encompassing Media license fee, that will dangle this money in front of all the media outlets and keep them on their side with a cut of this Media license fee, bribery by any other name, dark days lie ahead once the Government basically dictates to the media what to report or lose money from the Media license.

The government / legislator could decide : -

    1. Move NCO and lyric over to the NCH (saving RTÉ €14M)
    2. Move RnaG over to TG4 (saving RTÉ €10M)
    3. Fund the Sound and Vision Fund from the Exchequer (giving RTÉ back €8M per year)
    4. Create a new media fund outside the Licence Fee from the Exchequer, which would not be available to RTÉ or TG4.
    5. Continue to fund RTÉ thought the licence fee

    6. Declare it bankrupt, void the ridiculous overpaid contracts, relaunch RTE that must cut its cloth according to the Advertising fees it generates, in other words apply real world rules to RTE.

If the "talent" don't like the new pay at this new RTE, off they go to the real world, there will always be someone to step in and do their job

The government aren't going to do a damn thing. They are going to waffle until the summer recess and then some more waffle until the Oct/Nov elections. There will be no reform or recommendations implemented in the meantime. The government are too afraid to grasp the nettle. It took this long for a few reports telling us largely what we already know. Martin is so ineffective.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

They will do what they are doing with health, housing and the refugee crises. They will kick the can down the road and let the next government deal with.

Martin has more or less kicked the can down the road. She said earlier this evening that she knows the next government enacts the recommendation in the reports published today.

An Post already have a huge government subvention in the postal fees paid by Revenue, who send a stupid amount of postal correspondence which is not needed in 2024.

It must be the same with other government bodies and departments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭RoTelly

And if you take that away your going have give a subvention to the lost of mail because revenue on line, its a vicious circle.

Just look at RTÉ they mismanagement their own company just to make sure the got the right funding.

Completely, at any at time over the last 4 budgets she could have increase the licence fee, she could even have ensure that the DSP paid the full amount of each of the free licences (I believe they still only give a percentage). In away all of the ministers since 2011 are lucky they didn't increase the licence fee, because we know that RTÉ would still have been asking for more money and would still have done what they did. (Perhaps they would have got away with it?)

Licence fee landed in the door today. I just don't want to pay but reckon the new charge is for the new government to kick further down the road so likely another one next year also.

Was a subvention given to the owners of carrier pigeons back in the day? Good luck to them, reinvent yourselves An Post. Plenty of business for them with e-commerce.

Bakhurst claimed last year that RTE would need €20M by spring 2024, or they would be insolvent. RTE is already insolvent as they owe minimum €20M for the employees that RTE claimed are self employed.

It is worth noting that RTE have not yet received the €20M that they asked for.

An Post are in serious trouble after it was revealed that they class Postmasters as self employed. Postmaster barely make a living as they incur a lot of costs such as rent and rates. More info below.

This item? surely these items if there were two? and also is it 150 in total for both or 150 in total for 1.

    Is it a confused sentence?

I assume net barter value means the total amount with the payment to the barter company?

What is the point of a report with recommendations to the board ? Not rules, so just ignore and move on. Tubs scandal was always just the tip of the iceberg. Corporate governance was and still is non existent.

Allowances to all 760 staff was published earlier but I can't find it now. Was about €5100 per person of allowances. I felt it was a bit of averaging out the bad number by publishing the staff number.

A barter account designed to hide money and payments. It's acted as a slush fund and still nobody is accountable.

The place needs a major enforced deep cut taken out of their hands on the same basis as a bankruptcy.

I don't think the Revenue is going to have an easy time collecting a Broadcasting charge.

Do the revenue have details about people living in local authority housing? How are they going to chase after this group?

What about rented accommodation with multiple PAYE workers, who do they pick to pay this charge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,658 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

The politicians are doing nothing about this scandal and theft of public money. Nothing.

That tells us everything we need to know about what their intentions are. No interest in governance whatsoever.

Get in. Fill your pockets. Fill your friends pockets. Walk away untouched.

The country stands NO chance until people hold politicians accountable.

People fought and died to get rid of the English and now these politicians are just pissing on their graves. Scumbags.

Or has the report puts it

We have found no valid basis for these transactions to have been paid through the barter account, as the payments were not aligned to the purpose of the barter account as described to us by interviewees
