I doubt one of them will come up with it

Also it's back to "oh Leinster struggle against a big pack like Toulouse" I heard on one show, maybe TNT. Totally oblivious to the fact Leinster have been them twice in the last few years, of course this was also ignored when people said Leinster failed to beat any big teams.

Listening to TNT was my first mistake, f**k me but they are bitter towards Leinster….poor old BOD

Joe McCarthy is the lock I thought Baird would be.

Toulouse are French champions. They've nothing to prove.

I'd disagree on the Baird part. He made one superb run but he had some notable errors on re-watch and I'm not sure he'll be delighted with his showing. Getting stripped by them inside their 22 very easily and then held up on his own 5m line were big moments that could have been very costly. I assume he was running the line out in the last 30 minutes also when we started to come under real pressure there and became very sloppy.

Fully agree on the kicking. Not including clearing kicks, we put up contestable kicks 9 times between the 51st minute (when we made the first raft of subs and appeared to change approach) and 76th minute. All of these kicks were from roughly our own 10m line or further up the field (a couple in their half) so it was good, clean attacking ball in decent positions.

I'd have thought that was fairly obvious. I think the coaches got things wrong. I'm not sure was it after the third try or at the point when they brought on the subs but Leinster flicked a switch and went completely to an aerial pressure game which was mixed at best but mostly just yielded possession. Even Lowe put up a contestable from his own 10m line when he had tonnes of space at one point.

It was compounded by multiple errors from the team though. Players appeared to massively switch off. Lost/spilled line outs, carrying errors, a couple of sloppy breakdown moments and we also started to struggle with their kicking game a little. Our defensive pressure also slacked off notably from the first half. Their first try, we folded enough men around to get far more pressure on them. We were too passive. Alex Moon threw a ridiculous skip pass for a lock but even then I thought Lowe was too slow to get up into Hendy's face and allowed him the space to put a kick in over him. Lowe actually slowed down to anticipate the kick. If he had committed he would have smashed Hendy, man and ball.

Another strong performance from Doris. Noticed we used McCarthy quite a lot as the tight carrier, whilst Doris was tasked with doing the clearing out.

Cormac Foley and Frawley to be announced today im hearing

    Frawley is a surprise.

This isn't the top 14 though. They fact that they are current champions has absolutely to do with champions cup the final.

Leinster have had their number the last few years and they will be massively aware of that and desperate to prove its no longer the case. Without a doubt they have something to prove against Leinster, as we did with LaRochelle

Some time ago when I was a lurker of the forum I remember somebody put together a list of when contracts were up, contract length etc of each player. I’ve had a search but can’t seem to find the post. I don’t suppose anybody has it handy or has a similar list or contract lengths/expiries?

Nobody will think they’re a bad team or chokers if they lose, but they’ve lost to Leinster by 20 points margins in each of the last two seasons.

I’d imagine they want to prove a lot to themselves

Leinster teasing a "scoop" amongst their contract signings today.

Yeah, they'll certainly want to win, but if they don't they'll have just missed one golden chance to add another star. If Leinster don't they'll be the new Clermont/Mayo

I laughed out loud when I saw the alert on my phone. I was convinced when I saw Will Connors re-sign that the Deegan deal was 100% happening. Deegan might have just been really nervous about the lack of stability up north with no nailed on head coach or CEO.

Suprised by that to be honest..

Obviously everyone's situation is different but I honestly thought at 27 going 28 Deegan would be better off moving to another province in order to get some decent game time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,940 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

I wonder could Deegan be played at 12 occasionally to get him some extra minutes. His running lines, timing and understanding of how to draw and pass are very good. Botia can play backrow and centre, and Ben Te'o switched from being a league backrower to playing centre in union.

I see where you are coming from but it seems like a fairly sizeable reach that they would go with that line of thinking especially with Jordie Barrett arriving at Christmas. The only way it truly makes sense to me is if Leinster really want to move Ryan Baird back and forth between Lock and Blindside flanker depending on how they are allowed use RG Snyman next year. They probably view Baird as a Molony replacement in certain instances even though he is starting at blindside flanker. Either that or Leo must have made a fairly concrete promise to give Deegan some important Champions cup and big game minutes next season if he maintains his level of form.

Lol! Deegan staying put. I thought he was definitely leaving. Great news that he's staying.

Watched the match twice last night. I can't ever figure out what the officials are seeing with the scrums. Raynal has got to be the most inconsistent, or one of the most inconsistent.

Leinster definitely switched off and the replacements were fairly meh. A poor 2nd half, imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,129 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

can we start the countdown to next seasons episode of everyone saying where Deegan should go for the good of his career?

Ulster would be an unbelievably hard sell at the moment. They are a mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

RB really is slow! Glacial even! Overall, I thought he was average. A fair drop off from the qtr final.

Going full circle and joining awec on the "Leinster have too much money" bandwagon.

That is an absurd signing for all parties. Waste of money for Leinster, waste of talent for Deegan and a pain in the ass for Culhane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Baird back in the row? Interested to see what the 2nd row stocks look like for next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I'm delighted that Deegan is staying. Honestly, Ulster don’t need him. Going up to Belfast might get Deegan better opportunities but, there's a strong group of back rows at Ulster. I thought France might have been an option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

    Who's next?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 712 ✭✭✭jonok28

I've a feeling Sam Prendergast is going to get a fairly hefty push next season to stake his claim long term for the 10 jersey. I can't imagine Leo or Nienaber are thrilled with the consistency at the position. They have given Harry and Ross a lot of chances and they can't seem to grab the jersey and make it their own. They love how versatile Frawley is so they probably aren't going to hand the jersey to him because how well he can play at centre and full back.

Prendergast has a lot of Sexton in his game but is more expressive in how he moves the ball around the pitch. He has all the tools to be an Ireland international in the next 18 months.

I don’t see why a pro would want to go north to be honest. They are crap with little signs of becoming less crap. Ridiculously hard sell to a player of quality.
