Christ, dealing with both An Post and the Passport office at the same time is like banging your head off a brick wall. I'm being sent from Billy to Jack, one telling me to contact the other. The lack of urgency and ownership is infuriating but not surprising.

Hi, was talking to the passport office about my application for my baby son's passport and informed my application would almost certainly be rejected as the photo doesn't meet guidelines. However I've to wait until such time as it's officially reviewed before they can send me an email to reopen my application which will cause further delays and cause us to miss our flights. As it's a first time application I can't arrange an in-person appointment. Is there anything I can do here?

Can anyone say what happens if you lose your passport card but still have your passport?

If you report the card as lost so they cancel your original passport?

    Unsure what to do

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,318 ✭✭✭wassie

If you are certain your card is lost you should report it and have it cancelled immediately.

Its a very significant ID document and can expose you to identify theft in the wrong hands. Speaking from experience, what ever your concerns about having a passport cancelled is nothing compared to having to unravel damage caused by fraud as a result of identity theft.

Just wondering if anyone can advise what I should do.

Submitted first time applications for 2 children last week.

Sent in copy of my current passport but this is not the passport I had before they were born.

Didn't send in my birth or marriage cert either.

Will my current passport be sufficient for identity purposes or will they need the other documents?

    Thanks for any help.

Have just gotten off the phone with the Passport Office.

Started off at 31 in the queue but it moved very quickly and I was speaking to someone within about 5 minutes.

She tells me that as long as current passport and the old passport have the same surname there shouldn't be a problem as they keep all the details on file.

The current issue date is the 3rd April so we shall see.

Approx 3 million passports have been issued in that period. A loss ratio of 0.017% is not just acceptable but incredibly low.

Have a child renewal with an expected issue date of today, should I expect it to be issued soon or will I be waiting a while longer? How have other people fared here?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,298 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

Did one a couple of months back and got it a couple of days ahead of the expected date. Easter might be taking the sting out of things this week but I’d say assuming there’s no issue you will have it very soon

Hi. Have issue date 2nd April. Does that mean it will be posted that day? Due to fly 3rd April, so in a bit of a bind. Have tried TD etc.

    Many thanks

Are adult renewals still just taking a few days? Trying to work out the best time to apply.

I'm away at the end of April to Belgium, then mid June to Croatia.

    Passport expires on 24th June.

Am I better off waiting til I get back from Croatia (passport will just about be in date), or apply in May so I have it in time for that?

I applied at lunchtime today and passport status is now "Printing". I assume that means I'll have it next week.

Update: checked around 6.30pm on the same day and passport now dispatched.

Still crazy fast then, that's great.

I think I was waiting about 3 weeks the last time I had to renew.

Did anybody ever forgot to include the cover letter as part of their application? Wondering will it delay things. Posted the documents for my child today and realised just now that I forgot to include the cover letter 🙈

Has anybody any experience of the turnaround times lately? I've a child renewal that's due to arrive on the 1st of may…that's based on their estimated 15 working day turnaround. Need to decided if I need to book an emergency appointment as we are due to fly early the following week

I was unwell recently to and in my utter confusion seemed to have managed to throw my passport away in the rubbish 😱 On 23/4 I made my online application to replace lost passport with all data accepted.

The tracker advises that my application is being processed and is estimated to be ready on Wed 8th May. I’m getting nervous as I am due to fly to Glasgow on Sun 12th May, and Ryanair require passport even for UK.

I’m flying onward to one of the Hebrides. Almost thinking of travelling overland to connect with the Glasgow to Benbecula flight, though I could do without the hassle as I’ve MS and dragging luggage is a big issue for me, I get airport assistance to help me cope.

Anyone have recent experience of extended times beyond estimated date or do they in practice tend to do better atm than their ad derided 10 days turnaround?

Applied for a renewal around 9pm last night, and the passport has already been printed and dispatched. Brilliant service.

Definitely been made easier now you can upload your own photo as well with online apps - especially with kids!

can anyone give any advice on first time applications? I have an estimated printing date of 3 May but still showing as stage 5 so it’s processing… I was on webchat and one of the guys said there is a backlog. Due to travel mid June. Has anyone any recent experience of first time applications for both children and adults. My witness was contacted last Thursday. I am panicking massively now. Our UK passports are out of date and mine is with the Irish passport office - don’t know if I should report it as lost and then do an emergency one. Any information would be fantastic - thanks

    Hi,

It arrived on the estimated due date.. so took exactly 15 working days from when the supporting documents were received. I contacted them on chat a few times to see if I could speed it up. I've no idea if this helped or not or was it just processed as normal

I applied for my passport some weeks ago, going away next weekend, photo initially accepted. I’ve just got an email telling me photo could not be accepted as eyes misaligned. I am unable to align eyes perfectly as MS affects my eyes and my brain just cannot do the task to the satisfaction of the passport office. Both eyes are deviated outwards, and even if I focus hard to straighten them there is an exotropia. It’s bank holiday so can’t contact them. Looks like I will have to plan to travel overland 😟

I applied for online renewal and I had to send in the damaged passport which they received it on the 22nd of April.

The processing estimate says 15th of May, and it's currently stuck on Processing application.

Unfortunately, I have a trip booking on the 12th of May, which I'm probably going to miss.

Does anyone know how I could speed this up? How on earth are some people submitting their renewal request and getting it a day to a week later?! Does it matter that I'm currently in the UK?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,298 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

The people getting theirs the next day are straightforward renewals with no complications at all. Yours would have 2 complications I’d think with the damaged one and living abroad

To get to Glasgow to catch up with my onward flight to Outer Hebrides, I had to purchase an Aer Lingus flight as driving license will do for identity boarding UK flights, same with the Loganair domestic flight as I’m checking in luggage. If I weren’t doing that I could board Loganair domestic without any ID. The unused Ryanair flight was partially redeemable in that I could exchange it for a flight to Bristol later at an additional fee.

Passport Office was/is overwhelmed at the moment, they are were taking calls, they were not doing web chat, and only way they will speed things up is if there is serious illness in family or a death, and they need proof of that.

I submitted a first time application 5th of April along with 2 for my kids , kids passports arrived zero issues and mine was meant to be posted on 15th May, I got an email yesterday morn 13th may stating they needed extra documents.

Ive been tracking my application and have had no issues up until 13th May.

I've mailed them the extra documentation via reg mail this morning but we've a family holiday booked for 25th of May.

I called the office and they advised that I book an emergency appointment and get it same day .

Went online to learn that as my previous passport was issued more than 15 years ago I can't do an in person same day appointment.l!

The lady on the phone didn't mention this before I tried booking it

called back to be told that once they reviewed my extra documents it will be up tp 20 days before I get issued a passport .

They've had them for over a month and didn't process them at all !

Totally at a loss to the situation it seems .

( I had to do a first time application as my previous passport was just over the 15 years since issue)

Our first family holiday in 10 years and a 20 day process that's turned into a 7 week one with no happy ending it seems .

Can anyone advise? Applied for my daughter’s first passport back in February. Sent in all documents. It was due to be issued in mid-March, went past the estimated issue date. Eventually was informed there was an issue with the consent form.

Resent everything, and the new estimated issue date was end of April. It’s now mid-May and no progress, still stuck on ‘processing’. I’ve enquired several times and keep being told they’re working through a lot of applications, and they will flag my daughter’s as a priority. Has anyone else experienced this?

My worry is that there’s some issue again, and with them taking so long to tell us, there won’t be enough time for them to send everything back, us to resend, and then for it to be processed again as we’re travelling end of June. Thought there was plenty of time with the April issue date…!

We’re in the U.K. so can’t make an in-person appointment closer to the time if we still haven’t received it.

Applied for a passpoet renewal for one of the kids in mid april. This will be his 4th or 5th passport (never lost one, when its a kid it only lasts so long). They asked for a copy of marriage cert this week, which i dont think they ever asked for before and are now saying it will be mid june before they expect to have it back. We are married over 14 years, so dont see how this an issue. Problem for us now is that the passport wont be back in time for holidays. Anyone any advice?
