A lot leave voluntarily just for the purely practical point that not being technically deported is a benefit for future entrance into various states.

Care to offer some proof of that statement?

I mean surely the Dept of Justice must have a handle on these sorts of things and some stats on this. 🙄

Actually here is interesting question I thought of.

How can someone with no identifying documents leave the state?

Surely the only way is to go Britain via NI.

She has plenty of support down her way. She will get back in if she desires.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭FCTwenteBenson

Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see her get back in, happens all the time all over Ireland, the local politician or family steeped in politics or simply being the incumbent TD in the constituency has held a lot of sway at the ballot box over the years.

You would have to imagine though that if she does get back in, her days as a high profile minister are well and truly done.

The way things are now I would place a bet on anything.

Absolutely which is why I feel so disillusioned with politics in Ireland right now. But on McEntee it seems like Harris wanted rid of her during his cabinent re-shuffle and was convinced otherwise, now I am not a big fan of Harris but he is savy and I cant see him retaining her as a minister of note if FG are in power after the next GE.

FG in power after next election?

    Harris leader after next election?

    Harris savy?

Sorry for all the questions, but where do you do your standup gigs?

I said "IF" FG are in power implying "IF" Harris is leader. They either will be in power or they wont, hence "IF".

I also said that I am not a fan of his and to be honest was not the right choice for Taoiseach but here we are, but loathe him or love him you have to have some political saviness to get to where he has gotten.

So take your stand up comedy gigs and grow up.

If he was savvy, McEntee would have been removed. She is now a lightning rod for the immigration crisis. It was a huge mistake on his part to keep her in place. He already regrets it deeply. Even the gobdaws in FF are making hay from it and trying to separate themselves from FG's immigration mess.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

100% but can see where he kept her on amid pressure from his own party, which has backfired fairly spectaculalry in the past few days. All I'm saying is that I don't think he would stand by her again if push came to shove. I probably worded my original post wrong, I personally don't view Harris as a shining political light or inspirational leader just that anyone in that position will have some savy with regards what actions they need to take, essentially that he wont make the same mistake again.

Maybe he knows the corporation tax is on the way out n is purposefully making fine Gael unelectable at the next election?! Let someone else deal with the incoming clusterf@#k!.

Ditch mcentee, blame her n Leo and promise never again n he'd get a good bump in the polls.

Keep mcentee, baton charge his constituents and plenty of shanty towns popping up at election time should keep votes around 16%!

MSM tell us he's politically astute, maybe that's his plan!

I dont believe I have dismissed anyones opinion. Who knows who will be in power, 6 - 12 months ago I would have said Sinn Feinn, now I'm not so sure, if SF and FF can come to an arrangement then maybe them. But FF seem so lost that I can see them remaining with FG and the current government will stay in place, with Independents or some smaller party taking the place of the Greens.

And such is my utter disillusionment with what is on offer in the Dail that I dont have confidence in any of those arrangements.

I think enough people will misguidedly vote for sf in next general election.

I think fg is toxic and the simpleton from Greystones will be shown up to be exactly what he is, useless.

The next government will be cobbled together with possibly sf and multiple parties and not last very long probably due to economic reasons and sf fianlly shown up as spoofers.

And there are two possibilities that will come to pass, either fg or ff go right or a new right wing party arrives on the scene.

We are creating a time bomb both economically and socially with the asylum and refugees that have and are continuing to arrive.

Sooner or later there will be blowout, either due to major security issue or more likely simple fact a downturn will quickly show we can't afford the costs and the Irish taxpayers finally revolt.

I believe a lot of Europe is going to go quite right wing as there is no way most people are going to continously stomach more and more migrants arriving.

And Ireland is not some unique fairyland as shown by construction bubble.

In fact we will probably be one of the worst.

When most of us say "social justice" we mean equality under the law opposition to prejudice, discrimination and equal opportunities for all. When Social Justice Activists say "social justice" they mean an emphasis on group identity over the rights of the individual, a rejection of social liberalism, and the assumption that unequal outcomes are always evidence of structural inequalities.

Yes, it's incredibly difficult, particularly with the absence of a border up north. Some undoubtedly disappear into the black market so to speak.

Harris hails impact of Stormont return on first official visit to Northern Ireland

    • Mr Harris’s visit to Stormont Castle had an unpromising start when First Minister Michelle O’Neill and Ms Little-Pengelly were not outside the building to officially welcome him as his car arrived.
    • Ms O’Neill said there were many areas of shared collaboration, over the planned new A5 road project, which the Irish Government will partially fund.
    • The DUP’s Ms Little-Pengelly said: “We highlighted the fact that perhaps relationships, particularly between unionism and the Taoiseach’s office have not always been good in the last number of years.

I wonder did the Migration issues get discussed? And was #TheTikTokseach expecting them to be waiting for him outside?

Just another example of how poorly run Northern Ireland is.

LOL perhaps an indicator of the esteem in which our Taoiseach is held by his peers north of the border?

If Simon Harris did the same to another leader of a country you would be up in arms

They are an embarrassment to Northern Ireland and trying to paint it any other way just shows your own bias

Especially when you consider the meeting was about building cross border relationships.

Again proves how childish Sinn Fein and the DUP are as political parties. The incompetence of both parties knows no bounds

Waiting at a person’s car indicates how well a state in run ….

Well done SF, seems SF and DUP agree on Mr Harris anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

It shows again how incompetent Sinn Fein are, they can't even manage to arrange a meet & greet

FYI they had to invite Harris up. They came out with him later on so they just didn't realise he had arrived.

    Incompetence from Sinn Fein

How could anyone think they could be responsible for Ireland? they couldn't even release an alternative budget without having to take it back because of the mistake

    Incompetence.

That's before we start with the "tax the rich" which was 140k one week and then 100k the next week

Someone lost the calculator and the watch by the looks of it

    Incompetence

To be fair, there's a protocol involved here that should be respected in meetings like this.

regardless of what one thinks of harris that’s downright disrespectful

’Up in arms’ lol. I feel like you’re missing a sense of perspective here Clo-Clo.

We’re not all as invested or obsessed by political minutiae as you. Having said that, I did observe some pretty poor behaviour from our previous Taoiseach when interacting with the leaders or monarchy of other countries. Whilst being slightly embarrassed by it, it reflected more on Leo’s lack of class, rather than a cause for national outrage.

Personally, I’m entirely ambivalent about Harris. His tenure as leader will be brief and possibly truncated even earlier by a GE. Perhaps his counterparts in the North sense this and reacted in a manner they believe to be appropriate for a transitory peer? Either way, it’s quite hysterical to brand them as an embarrassment to their jurisdiction.

Perhaps you’ll gain some perspective over the long weekend Clo-Clo?

I think targetting his home and family is not good, protest at The Dail or his office

Simon seemed happy with his NI visit but was borders and deportations discussed

I assume the politicians have each others phone numbers.

Why didn't Simon ring ahead to say 'I'm 3/5 mins away from reaching there' ?

on the Taoiseach to follow through on his commitment not to allow
"shanty towns" to develop in Dublin city.
