Thats nothing, I'm still getting bill texts from VF claiming I'm in credit☺️. It must be 5 years since I was with them…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,140 ✭✭✭DopeTech

you can call and tell them to put it back into your bank account. Had same with eir.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,265 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

If only.. Tried that, account number is invalid, obviously as the account is closed so I gave up.

Does anyone get around 2-3mb speed with gomo 5g everywhere?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,265 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I've cracked 300 regularly, I get 180-220 here at home.

I've a GoMo SIM in a router for broadband, anytime I've checked it's 350mb+ in Cork city.

Sounds like you're in an area with 5G DSS which shares existing 4G bands as opposed to using its own.

Try setting your phone to 4G and you may find the speeds are actually faster than 5G.

Many of their sites use 4G+ which has multiple 4G bands that aggregate together, but this aggregation doesn't work if your phone is using 5G on a DSS site.

Thank you switched to 4g today and getting 150mb which is great. Will keep it at that until 5g upgraded I suppose

I'm on the 9.99 plan. I'd like to get a SIM card for my daughter, obviously only 14.99 is available.

Any idea if it is possible to transfer my 9.99 plan to her, and I take the 14.99 one? Sounds like it would be messy, but wouldn't mind having 5G if I'm the one paying the bills.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,705 ✭✭✭KildareP

    Not possible.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with their 5G for now, their 4G+ can see speeds well into 100Mb+ which is more than adequate for mobile browsing while 5G can actually be slower (see post a few above for example).

Ok, thanks. I'll leave it as is then. I'm getting speeds of 50-80, so I suppose I can live with that.

Can someone please explain how 16GB of EU roaming data works? Does it mean from the moment I join a roaming network until the moment I go home or, more unlikely, 16GB a day? What happens if I enter a new billing cycle while roaming? Does the 16GB reset?

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭POBox19

EU Roaming starts as soon as you arrive or turn on roaming in another EU country until you turn it off or come home. The 16Gb comes out of the monthly allowance. If you are roaming at the end of a billing cycle it resets to zero for the next bill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,888 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

And the zero sometimes comes on last day of month rather than the following day.

When you reach the 16, you get a text asking if you want to keep using data (at a price)

When receiving a call it rings no more than three times and then disconnects, it doesn't seem to happen with all numbers which makes it even stranger, has anyone else experienced this?

I've WiFi calling turned on, I've turned it off now to see if that makes a difference, all I need now is for someone to call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,265 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

It was doing that for me with calls from landlines, turning off WiFi calling stopped it happening.

Not GoMo, but I've had issues with Wi-fi calling on Vodafone, where calls to me go straight to voicemail without even ringing. I'm not convinced of its reliability and I have a decent Ubiquiti Wi-fi system in the house.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,705 ✭✭✭KildareP

I've found Vodafone will do this if their SIM doesn't have mobile data active - for example if it's in a dual SIM phone and you've your data set to the other SIM - it will also drop WiFi calls rather than handoff to VoLTE and VoLTE calls often only ring for a fraction of a second so show up as missed. Flawless otherwise if mobile data is active.

Vodafone don't let you use WiFi Calling when abroad, so they don't loose roaming revenue. Maybe they use the mobile data connection to check that you are in Ireland? It seems completely pointless for Vodafone to only offer WiFi calling if you have a mobile data connection! The whole point of the service is to provide service when you have no mobile coverage. Eir/GoMo WiFi calling is more flexible - you can use it abroad to avoid roaming charges - even if you are still in airplane mode (with WiFi switched on).

    Hi all…

I have done some searches for this online, and gone back a few pages here, but I'd like to get an answer that I know is up to date.

I'm off to Scotland for the weekend next weekend. Will I be charged for phone calls/texts/data while I am there, or is it free (as long as I don't go over my 16Gb data allowance)? Is there a particular Network I should/have to use in Scotland?

    Thanks…

This is the text I got when I went up north a couple of months ago.

Welcome to UK, Your calls and texts to all EU countries while roaming are included as part of your standard plan allowance and you can use part of your data allowance to browse. You will be alerted once you use your plan allowance. Additional usage will be charged at your standard out of bundle domestic rates. In Emergency call 112. For more info on emergency access, public warnings and higher cost numbers see

    http://www.gomo.ie/roaming-emergency

Yes I know UK isn't EU anymore but I imagine the information still applies. Also my phone connected to EE which I think is the preferred.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 729 ✭✭✭babelfish1990

Eir & GoMo continue to treat UK as an EEA country, even though they have left the EU & EEA. This is detailed on the GoMo website. You will not be charged for roaming in UK, as long as you stay within your EU roaming limits. The best network for roaming in UK is EE.

I was in Edinburgh in November and had no issues whatsoever using data, texts, calls, etc. as if I were still in the EU.

I actually didn't get the text Flazio mentioned above.

I was in Scotland last year and got the standard EU roaming text, everything worked perfectly. I travelled around a bit and it switched between EE and orange.

    Excellent answers, thanks!

just back from uk: GoMo cover was terrible, more often than not out of cover

Could this be a settings issue or is that the experience of others?

Are other budget servers better for uk roaming?

I'm up in NI regularly and never have a problem in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,888 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Same, have never had an issue in UK or NI

Never had an issue anywhere including the UK and outside Europe, most of the time I had great coverage when others, mainly VF customers had little or no coverage at all.
