Seems like a fairly drastic drop? 39k for top spec now where as it was over 50k in November, or am I reading this totally wrong? November list below for reference

I'd say add on deliveries etc into that. It's probably an 8k drop on the models.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,493 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I think that is a much truer reflection of the value of the Renault and I'd expect to see a good few more on the roads now.

Price probably needed to drop to make room for the new Scenic.

Scenic is something like 42 k sterling in Uk for a bigger car with an 87 kwh battery.

    Edit

    Scenic prices in UK.

Those are for 87 kwh cars too.

I'm sure the Irish price in euros will be very strong but UK offering gives some context for this price cut for Megane

Those new prices are much more realistic, as said before the old prices were far too high in the current market. Still don't know why they're bothering bringing in the 40 though.

@ffocused fingers crossed you find a sympathetic person in Renault.

That's the risk you take with buying a new car house etc. The prices can go up or down depending on the market.

Did any of the people who bought a Tesla before the huge price reductions last year get anything back? I doubt it.

Yes very true. Hard to know what Renault would or could do though. Give him a voucher or a free service and a valet or something.

It would be worse if had had paid cash, but in reality all I have lost is most of the equity I had in trade in at this point.

I also doubt that the cars value will be anywhere near its GMFV of €22K after 3 years (which is higher than my Kia EV6!)

I will probably end up handing the keys back after 3 years and treat it as a lease instead of PCP.

Still waiting for response from Renault, but not holding my breath.

Tesla Y can now be got for 42K. That should lead to more downward pressure on second cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,168 ✭✭✭✭listermint

It's good that the took out that ridiculous 'savings based price' and show actual purchase price now. That system was ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,464 ✭✭✭sk8board

I wonder what’s the reasoning behind pricing the Y the same as the 3. Sales of the 3 would surely suffer you’d have to think, unless they plan to drop its price too, or push the Y back up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,803 ✭✭✭maddness

Is there not a revised Y coming later this year? Perhaps they have plenty of the current stock to sell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭GavMan

Are Renault still matching the SEAI grant? If not, then this price cut is not quite as good as it might seem

Was looking at importing a July 2023 model from NI but the revenue OMSP is 48k so there is 2k VRT on it.

Kearys are selling the same car new for 39k

    https://www.kearys.ie/renault/new-cars/all-new-renault-megane-e-tech/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭vicM

From history, the OMSP has always been exaggerated by revenue..normally you would have to pay the VRT and then appeal providing 3 examples of what the real OMSP really should be

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭pandabat

I believe that Revenue actually did an exercise in the last year or two revising the figures as they'd been undervalued for a few years with the second-hand car price inflation during COVID/initial Ukraine invasion. Seems that the market is changing again right now though - especially in relation to EV pricing.

My wife saw on social media that Renault have dropped 10k off the new E Megane and she wants to get our first EV.

We just had solar fitted to our detached home.

We don't do high mileage as she works within 10km of homend i use a company vehicle for work.

We plan to purchase for cash

    Any thoughts/tips appreciated

How much were they advertising for?

I saw one at the nevo show yesterday, they look like a nice car

If they are under 35k they are good value I feel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,983 ✭✭✭IrishHomer

    €31,000 .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,198 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

That's a 40kw battery, probably 225 KMs max range in the real world, could be a good bit less in cold weather and at motorway speeds, just so you know that. If that works fine for you, go for it.

No need to pay more for range you'll never need or use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,983 ✭✭✭IrishHomer

The longest journey we do is occasionally to Dublin airport and that's 80km each way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,983 ✭✭✭IrishHomer

I have an old petrol unarond VW golf also so the 40kw should be grand for our requirements

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,576 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

  • advertised as 450km with 300km regained in 30 mins.

Even if a huge loss in cold weather that should more than suit you OP.

Handy as well if your wife’s workplace has charging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,198 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

31k euro is for the 40 model, 60 models are dearer.

The 225kms I said is my estimate in real world range, not the wltp figure which you won't achieve anyway.

Up to the OP whether they want to pay extra for bigger battery, from description I don't think they need to

  • Yeah, with solar at home and if workplace charging is available you’d be mad not to I think (go with an EV I mean).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,808 ✭✭✭mailforkev

The new Megane is quite nice but I’d stretch for the larger battery if you can. Otherwise I suspect you’ll be married to the car come selling up time.

40kWh is just too small a battery for a new car of that size/class in the minds of 99% of buyers, whether you actually need the range or not.

The larger battery will be far more practical for you too of course. To be honest, even 60 isn’t huge.

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭yermanthere

Get a 231. Get the big battery. Haggle and it's yours for under 30 grand. Best of both worlds.

You will likely need a charge stop on the way back from airport with the 40kw model in winter. If it’s your only car I would recommend spending an extra 5k to get the 60 kw.

I got one for my wife last month at the old price and it’s fine for our purposes as a second car, and the range is the only thing we are unhappy about.

a 90% charge is only giving 180kms on the GOM, but a motorway drive will bring that down a good bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,316 ✭✭✭fafy

According the latest Price list, the entry level “Equlibre” trim 60kw, is just €3,300 more than the 40kw equivalent.

For “Techno” trim, the 60kw, is €3,500 extra than the 40kw.

Get 300km in summer months, 200 or just under in winter, mine is creeping back up with the milder weather the last week or so, prob about 220 now.

Suits my needs but like mentioned already the problems come down the line trying to get rid..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,808 ✭✭✭mailforkev

Didn’t realise that along with the bigger battery, you also get 90 more horses for your 3.5k, that’s a no brainer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭gossamerfabric

facelift is in testing for release at end of year.

Renault have a great offering in the lower to middle end of the market now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 464 ✭✭gary29428

Folks, looking at a 222 Techno, do ye know if 22kW AC charging comes on this model....thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭Stumper931

Believe it’s standard on them from launch. I was in looking at one today (new) and asked they said it is standard on the techno model but I’m pretty sure it has been standard from when first released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭gorevs

yes 22kW ac charging on all Megane e tech. all Zoes are 22kW as well. the new R5 will only be 11Kw ac

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭gossamerfabric

Mid life product improvements such as between 10 and 30km improved range through sharkfin antenna and new mirrors. some interior changes. new 18" eco wheels. improved audio.

    specific details in French

    http://worldscoop.forumpro.fr/t13556p550-2021-renault-megane-e-tech-electric-bcb#1054891

charging curve unchanged. 22kw charging becomes option with 7kw standard which is fine for me on a car that otherwise offers a better owning experience than most of the competition. range is from 320 to 480 across the batteries.

If looking for an EV in this size for delivery with 242 plate then it is really worth while looking at this and the refereshed Id.3/Born

Surprised how small Mégane e-tech is compared to Leaf, and even their own Captur.

I am yet to test drive one, but is it going to big enough for two adults and two teenagers? We currently drive a Mégane Grand Tourer, which is just about enough room inside (and a great boot ofcourse). I wonder if Renault is planning a Grand Tourer version of this car.

It's plenty big. Much more spacious than a Captur or a leaf.

Scenic is the larger version and due out soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭ablelocks

i have one, it's bigger inside than the exterior suggests - our 3 tall teenagers are nice and comfy in the rear seats, and there's still plenty room for tall me in the front. My previous car was the saloon megane, there was less space in that i think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,426 ✭✭✭positron

Test drove one and while it's nice, it wasn't great - it could be because the 'demo' car already had 20k kms on it and looked very tired inside, or it could be the 20" wheels that's making the drive less smooth, or the stalk/controls partially blocking the screen - or it could be the asking price for a 231 was still around 35k, and the trade in for my own Renault was below expectation. Surprisingly the e-tech Megane felt less luxurious and less spacious than a Tata Nexon EV that I drove for a few weeks while away on holidays (costs 22k euro, 40kwh battery etc). Also the test drive was literally 5 minutes / 2km (with the sales guy coming with you) - expecting someone to spend 40k based on such a short test drive was a bit of a surprise.

Clearly a good looking car, more spacious inside, especially at the back than it looks from outside - but we decided against it in the end.

i've installed the my renault app, but it doesn't actually allow me to see or do anything? I can see my car in the "your garage" section but all i can do there is remove it. I get an error message on the vehicle information page in the app

when i log into my account on pc, i get a message that says

    Congratulations!

    Your account has been created.

You can now log in to the app with your credentials.

Have i missed something in the registration or set up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭ffocused

Do you see a green dot on top left of your car in the app to signify that it is online?

If not, maybe the SIM card was not activated by dealer or it has a problem.

If your car is showing offline, you could try connecting to your home WiFi for now if you have signal where it’s parked and then see if you can do anything.

If it works over WiFi then go back to dealer and get the sim activated.

Anyone else's connectivity gone on their car?

Stopped working yesterday and App will not connect, red x's on the SIM connectivity when I check int he car.

I called Renault and they said it is a known issue they are working on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 BearMarketFresh

Yeah....was wondering. Since the day before yesterday.

Looks like it's an issue with a SIM provider or carrier. BYD is also experiencing the same issues connectivity wise. I'd guess both they and Renault are customers of the one company.
