Why are the French so exercised with Russia lately? With the death of Wagner, the Russians have created a regular military Africa Corps. Wagner were active before the expansion of Russians offensive into Ukraine. The Sahel region of the Francophone part of Africa is fully "in play" now, with Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger all exited ECOWAS. Don't know the implications for the CFA franc.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

No harm but can you at least TL:DR the video a little?

Whilst even old artillery is still dangerous, D20s and 30s are not exactly at the cutting edge of the Russian artillery park. I wonder how typical that is?

Interesting question. With the losses putin's forces have been experiencing in Ukraine it would not surprise me if they were now scrapping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to artillery systems they have to use. Ukrainians count 44 artillery systems destroyed yesterday bringing putin's artillery system losses to 10,855 since the more widespread invasion started in 2022. I'd have thought putin would have led the attack with the more up to date systems which hopefully are all gone now and the moskovytes are having problems replacing the more modern types.

Russia, scraping the barrel for artillery pieces, but currently have plenty of shells.

Ukraine having the latest and greatest artillery systems, but lacking shells.

A very simple answer to your question would be that Putin was involved in it himself. Security services paid no heed to the threat, despite being given advance warning by the US. There were more than 6'000 people in the complex, only very light police presence, and those that were there ran as soon as the shooting started. Police/Military barracks only 4 klms away, yet reinforcements took more than an hour to arrive. Supposed terrorists picked up heading for the Ukrainian border...stinks to high heaven. And yes, you are right about ordinary Russian civilians having concerns about their own( and families) security. Thats something that my Russian spoke about this morning during our chat. There's a lot of worry about their own security and safety now, especially after the attack in the theater. This is the first time that I've heard anything like this.

France’s covert exploitation of its former colonies in Africa is really unedifying and does not reflect well on them at all. It’s basically still the 19th century relationship. Regardless of the Russian involvement which is very recent and relatively small in number. There is huge pushback from the local populations in those regions against French exploitation. And it’s justified. Impoverished economies pegged to the Euro currency having their monetary policy decided thousands of miles away by economies that are alien to them.

There is a uranium mine in Mali which supplies a huge chunk of France’s nuclear power if that comes under threat expect fireworks.

Yes, it absolutely is convenient to Putin's regime; they can blame the attacks on UKR. To suggest that Putin gives a ff about Russian citizens being murdered is laughable.

Did NATO just realise that if Ukraine falls then inevitably russia will attack a NATO state next, maybe Poland maybe Romania. Then NATO responds and destroys russian forces and then russia launch their nukes ? Victory for Putin = a nuclear holocaust ?

trump held the 2013 miss universe at crocus. he is well acquainted with the agalarovs.

whats also interesting and completely unconnected to the terror attack is that agalarovs son emin had a meeting arranged at trump tower with trump junior, manafort, kushner, 4 other US citizens and russian lawyer natalia veselnitskaya. the meeting was subject to a congressional investigation and muellers special counsel investigation - the suspicion being this meeting was part of the kremlins interference campaign during the 2016 presidential election.

I haven’t followed this in a couple of days. Just wondering, the 4 Russia have arrested is it likely they carried it out or did Russia just arrest 4 randoms with a Muslim background?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,223 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

They arrested the 4 that did it. Look's like a genuine ISIS attack otherwise Putin would have straight up blamed Ukraine for this. They're doing their best but this has caught them off guard.

Any list yet of who was killed in the attack on the theatre?

Owners of the theatre who know too much of the shady goings on with Putin and Trump or political and environmental opponents who happened to be in the audience?

There's not much occurs in russia without Putin and fsb involvement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,395 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Is it proven that these are the 4? If so, it seems very unlikely that they were arrested where reported. How they got that far and how they were tracked down so quickly among the citizenry at large. If they are, surely they were caught near the scene. And how did they survive.

Oooph... You'd hope that was a 100% successful strike on designated target. You're not walking away from that one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,469 ✭✭✭Guffy

Someone posted a tweet a few pages back suggesting that they were identified pretty quickly but were tracked and monitored by authorities for a time before being picked up. As a result other arrests were made.

It was almost certainly an Isis attack, though the usual tinfoil hat wearers are throwing out various conspiracies. We have no idea if the 4 arrested are the perpetrators.

    That's the short version

I've asked this in the other thread but is there any verifiable evidence that these are the 4 that actually did it?

By verifiable I don't mean the FSB saying that they did it or any confessions that were gathered under extreme duress.

Are there are photos or videos of them from Friday night, in the act, where they are clearly the 4 that showed up in court yesterday? Everything that I have seen from Friday ether has blurred faces or they were too far away to be identifiable.

I am not asking this trying to be some kind of crank. I just don't know what that link is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 17,894 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

I don't think there will ever be verifiable information, russia is doing its damndest to make any statements and evidence worthless while ensuring they have people ready to pay for their crimes in as public a way as possible (the usual anti-NATO/US heads are popping up as well).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭techman1

The apparent fact that the attackers tried to escape rather than blowing themselves up is going to fuel speculation about the true nature of the attack, because it is at least the public perception that real Islamist attacks are usually of a suicide nature,

That didn't happen in the bataclan attack in Paris, the perpetrators escaped mostly across border into Belgium. Of course the Russian authorities are desperate not to link it to Paris because that rubbishes their link with ukraine and it also says Moscow is no different to a European city to islamists. The Russians always like to think that they are somehow exceptional and not actually the same as other Europeans, that's what they will again anyway when putin imperialist adventure has collapsed

Are we sure the wretches that were caught were the real terrorists? Russia has a history of picking up people almost at random and saying 'we got em'-

It looks like history is starting up again.

Every night in Kyiv there is a terrorist attack.

Carry out well planned and executed attack then go to try to cross the border with hundreds of thousands of high alert Russian troops. Yeah right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,609 ✭✭✭.Donegal.

I hope it was those captured men who carried it out because if it was 4 random lads then they’re going through the most horrific torture for nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,715 ✭✭✭amandstu

People saying that the "interrogation" of one of those 4 didn't give the impression of someone able to carry out the skilled operation that was carried out at the Crocus venue.

    Anything to that?

And ,despite that story about being recruited on the internet and offered money to do this ,could it be that that man was really an operative very well trained in undergoing interrogations and torture and maybe knowing that the way out is to tell the interrogators what they want to hear(a fiction that suits both sides)

Perhaps they had already got his story out of him and that interrogation for the camera was just to make him say it for the (not so?) gullible Russian public- as well as to satisfy the lust for physical retribution in some.

They may not be being tortured physically. All the fsb has to say is say this or else we kill your family and everyone associated with you. Or say this and your family gets 200k and all their debts paid off. There's different forms of coercion over personal physical torture.
