I’d say the U20s challenge matches are done as they are out on the 30th of this month, and I wouldn’t say any of today’s players were on the St. Kieran’s team as they would be a bit young.

How is the team shaping up ? How is young Murphy doing ? Any other forwards of note ? We badly need some forwards that can replace TJ . Preferably some ball winners with a bit of presence. Hopefully Mcdermott steps up also when up to age

Oh mother of god Jesse owens again.

The U20s havent won anything yet but look a very good bunch.

This undelines my point that the minor grade is becoming a very poor barometer of player development, as this U20 team is stacked with 3 minor teams that have been pillioried here (and elsewhere) for being useless. The 2021 minor loss to a very average Galway, given the quality of players we had, looks shocking now.

We must be doing something right post minor because a lot of players from those 3 minor teams appear to have kicked on very well.

I doubt the kierans lads were asked to play but for the challenge match a few weeks ago against cork manogue was on goal, jeff neary and aaron mcevoy all started.. Alot of the kierans players played adult club hurling last year and it was very evident on their run this year. Plenty of good prospects but making the transition is hard. Shine and dunne should be just left with the 20s.

Theres a good team there this year.We were all disappointed the way we went down so tamely against wexford last year. They went after the lack of pace in the half back line. Mark should of learned from last year and its very important we go well in this.I think danny glennon will miss a few months recovering from injury.Playing wexford at home Saturday week in the first round of round robin. It will be intresting to see how a few lads go, we have a good panel. Hopefully they have a good year.

Yeah the players go back and compete in the club Championship. The best barometer to find players. The Kilkenny club championship is excellent standard. Not picking teams off the back of St Kierans, this has proved detrimental the last 15 years

Minors did ok today , most scores were frees and are poor overall and have not been looked after properly over the past 3/4 years. They were well beaten by Tipp, Clare and Cork in challenge games.

My understanding is the U20s were beaten by Tipp at the weekend. Have no reason to doubt what I was told but obviously someone heard different in here so not sure what the story is.

They also turned it around against Cork last week and won well and did they not draw against Clare.

I was late for the match yesterday but met a few of the parents outside and they told me KK won well.

In my opinion at the moment any game with KK, Gal, Tipp, Clare and Cork facing each other is as good as a 50/50 game. Limerick a level ahead of those 5 and Wexford, Waterford and Dublin a level below.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 230 ✭✭JohnCougar

No they conceded two goals in the last 10/15 and lost to Clare. Cork only played most of the panel players in the second game whereas Kilkenny are playing their strongest team in all games. They were missing a few yesterday but so were Limerick. Kilkenny should do well in Leinster against Wexford and Dublin, Galway will be very strong as usual.

Was talking to a fella from Tipp who was at it and he said that KK won easily enough, apparently they (Tipp) were well beaten by Galway the week before also.

Good positive post. And your point about some of the St Kierans lads already playing, very well, at senior club level last year shouldn't be missed/ignored by us.

Yep cummins won't be getting tipp job anytime soon. Has them trying an awful brand of hurling.

Double bill fixed for SuperValu Park on Saturday. Thankfully the football match Cork v Armagh is on after the hurling at 7pm.

Making stuff up to make it look like the keeper had a bad game when he did nothing wrong

So fixtures are out today and the complete mess that was the 2nd draft appears to have been kept! Not only that, but two of the redeeming features of the U13 league was year were a) the large groups resulting in 9 games in the league for each team and b) the fixtures were set for Friday evenings meaning players, parents and coaches all knew exactly when games were held and for the large part there was no messing around with rescheduling.

Now, on top of the mysterious D grade, they have adopted a policy of only 6 teams per group, so in Roinn B and C where there are 18 teams, they decided that should be 3 groups of 6 instead of 2 groups of 9. So a measly 5 games per team. Not only that, fixtures are now set for any one of Thursday evening, Friday evening or Saturday.

What in the name of God are they at in there. They took something good and replaced it with a shambles.

They dont have a clue in there. There is one person running Bord ns Og in Kilkenny and he is allowed do what he wants. Anyone that brings up anything at meetings is shot down and abused. That man is running it into the ground.

This is going on too long. He and they are completely unfit for purpose.

What's really worrying is that he will be a real candidate for County Board Chairman in a few years time.

And nobody with a backbone in there to challenge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,074 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

is that set up (thurs /fri /sat ) for all ages ? Or just U13 ??

Unfortunately not, everyone gives out but the club delegates at Bord na NOg level are too weak to do anything. Clubs need to do what the did for the age change and come together again and get 10-12 persons to go forward at convention and take over like what Michael Duigan did in Offaly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,460 ✭✭✭Ceist_Beag

U14 only. Minors remain on Monday and u16s on Wednesday. It's the u14s they have butchered big time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Marrooned

Not unusual these days for the GAA to mess up something that has worked for years they are constantly changing things for the sake of change and still we have the hand pass problem because they they won’t address it. In the last few matches the various referees have blown for the clash of the ash.

I dont know whats going in the camp but is playing tj covering over the cracks? He was our best foward since he returned. He is 37 this year. What are we going to do when he goes.

If i was to be critical of lyng id say he is is very conservative. Im very suprised that we havent tried anyone corner back other than butler and tommy all the league. Its not a simple position and we havent many options. Its no secret teams went after tommy last year.Butler is probably out Saturday so it will be some baptism of fire for someone. Whats the story with david fogarty does anyone know?

Another heavy defeat would be depressing. Limerick will want to keep the foot on the throat. We need something different. Its a huge game for kilkenny and if we shouldnt need any motivation going into this.We need a huge performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Marrooned

It’s fairly depressing already even thinking about it you would hope they are going to kick on but I don’t think they have it.

Our U14s are in Roinn A, 6 teams. League Starts early May, 5 matches finished June 7th.....whole summer of no hurling before championship in late August. We requested home and away to give boys more matches but we're turned down flat (surprise surprise) . Farce.....
