We will never know if he would or not. Could have pushed it into the water. It’s all if buts and maybes.

It was his bunker shot on 16 that killed his chances, put it in the water from the green side

Shane on the way - poor enough first putt on the first green.

This looks like it will wrap up soon enough - but to be honest no harm for Shane - putting very poor at start. Go to bed re- start fresh.

needs to get going. Already 2 behind after 4.

2 awful chips in a row, plenty of time but not good start

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

He didn't look very happy on par 3 5th. Think the caddie overclubbed him leaving him a difficult chip which he played poorly and ended up with bogey.

Was just a bad shot, he knew as soon as he hit it. Really poor stuff to be +1 through 5 when you’ve players ripping it up tonight.

He is lucky that he, hopefully, can reset over night. Didn't help that the first few putts didn't drop given how streaky a putter he is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭Trampas

Best thing was getting called in last night as way he started he wasn’t going to win. He can reset. Both of them not going well probably didn’t help. He might get the break this year with the weather

His demeanour was awful over the opening holes. He shot Reynolds a few dirty looks.

    And those chip shots!

His chipping seems to really become a weakness when the pressure is on.

Dont want to be too harsh on him but he must be delighted to get off the course yesterday.

Blessed with the break now but hasn't taken advantage of some of the easier holes. Going to need 4 or 5 under from here and hope that Eckroat wobbles.

I see the first wobble from Shane and the thread gets busy again!

Yeah, great break with the weather having to sit on the lead for an extra 4 hours!! Then the course gets turned into a target golf birdie fest, that let's face it never suits Shane, the reason he plays well here is because it's one of the most difficult courses on the Tour.

Hopefully it dries out a bit for today and Shane can finish the job off.

He did well to lose visible weight in a couple weeks to turn his game around too!

nasty 5 footer on his first and just made 13 ft for par on his second ,so decent start .

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

Of course the thread is going to get busy…he was leading!

Im not sure but I think this is only the third time he lead/co-lead a tournament going into the final round in recent years. 2023 AD DPWT (T28th) and the 2019 Portrush win.

I hope he gets it done.

His iron play on the first 3 holes today has been terrible and with that first bogey. Uphill task from here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,309 ✭✭✭dublin49

bad bogey from 100 yards out,not his day methinks

Par on the 9th. Birdie on Par 5 10th is a must.

He has 20 odd people on his score or better and he's not playing well, I think it's time to move on, it's not going to happen for him today.

    Solid birdie on 10

Harrington's last win on Tour was this tournament on a Monday so good vibes!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,892 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Not playing well, it's his tricky spell in a 72 hole tournament, every winner of every event has one.

He's clearly playing well, hence his position, needs to play well on the back 9 obviously, but I'd say that's as likely as not, given the tournament as a whole

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭ionadnapokot

Water OTT on 11! Very unlike him. Prob Bogey and back to -11. If he can finish at -13 he'll be doing well a this rate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭Trampas

This one will hurt. He should just go for it and the hell what happens

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,309 ✭✭✭dublin49

Dont agree, play solid and try get top 3/5 finish

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭ionadnapokot

He should. The other lads needing a pay check need to plot it around the closing holes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭Trampas

Gets within 3 and possible sniff and splash

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,892 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

And that's that, bad swing there tbf

Bodes well for the next few weeks all the same though

I think the LIV format would suit Shane best. He’s just not able to put in four rounds of consistent golf. He’ll be a wealthy top 80 player for the next few years but will never live up to his full potential. Perhaps that’s all he wants. As younger plays excel and adapt their games to meet the modern demands, Shane just always seems to be trudging along.

to be + 2 when the average above him is circa -5 is really a bad day at the office.
