Reviving this to ask how anyone using Stack is getting on ?

I have the stack system just over a year now, find it excellent and user friendly, have gone from 110-112mph max swing speed to 122-125mph max

now "chippy" swings go as far and my "out of my boots swings" prior to the stack so nice to have the extra gear to go too when needed.

    Wow that's some increase.

Noticed any lack of accuracy with increased speed ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭TheRoomWrecker

initially yes, but I was working on swing changes too at the time so could of been that when I first started using it.

its interesting as the speed gains come in bursts and then plateau, then the AI in the app redesigns programs for you, have also incorporated a lot of mobility work to supplement this and to prevent injuries. I cut my handicap from 5 to 2 in the year using it so I guess that the ultimate answer

Not great gains, due to complete lack of use. Hoping to get going with it soon pre season.

Interesting to see the drop from 5 to 2 index. Would you attribute the scoring difference to shorter approaches and proximity to the hole?

I was chatting to a mate recently who's around scratch and he's started speed training. He 100% believes that's where he's going to gain the most for the time he puts in. Eg if he spent the same time on putting/short game he doesn't believe he can gain much relative to his hc. Maybe 0.5 improvement.

On the other side of that, he said if his drives are 20 yards longer it transforms his game. Par 5s are easier to reach in two and lots of Par 4 approaches are probably 1-2 clubs less depending on layout. Some holes then become 3w or 3i off the tee which he believes will be more fairways from the improved dispersion.

For me though as someone who's struggling with fundamentals of short game and mental errors off 11. I'm staying miles away from speed training for the foreseeable. I have so much remedial work to correct and it's much lower-hanging fruit than speed work. At my level distance is not an issue as I'm longer than 80-90% of people I'll play against (250/260 carry). It's only down to my age and I try to keep in shape. Hopefully, my index will drop and I'll have more free time a couple of years to consider giving it a shot.

I’m off 6 and generally I’m consistently bad, I.e some days my driving is off, some days the irons, some days the short game but it’s mostly solid. but in general I can compete with anyone on any single hole. Similar distance to you, so longer than most, but I’ve certainly seen a massive opportunity in distance when playing with people longer. If I get a good drive away I can get near a lot of par 5s in two. However generally I find most of them are designed to be tricky for someone hitting it 250 out to 280, especially off the back tees . Generally left with not being able to carry over the dogleg off the tee, or being left 220-230 over water into the green making the risk reward too little. So mostly no real advantage over someone hitting it 220 off the tee. If you can carry it 270-280 it makes basically all of them reachable. Especially being able to carry doglegs. We’ve a couple of 330-350 par 4s also which should be much easier with 20 yards or 10% gained. You just have much better lines off a lot of tees. Like you say also, I can carry a 4 iron about 205, if I can get that out to 220 and add 25 yards to driver then can reach almost anything and shorter ones with an iron. I only work really on 90% the swing itself, short game 10% and playing practise, hole strategy, aiming, clubbing etc Adding speed in will hopefully give me some gains and if nothing else keep me in the 10% as I get on in years!

I wound attribute to scoring better on Par 5s for sure, I am a member of a links course so no amount of swing speed can help to get on in 2 if the wind is up!!

but my scoring has improved on them, the big win for me is now I can swing well within myself, which helps with quality of ball striking so my GIRs and FIR has jumped up significantly.

I’m jumping on the distance train with my golf game again. A few years back I completely the swing speed training program to go with a speed specific fitness regimen and I maxed at about 20 yards more average on the carry with my driver. I’m a single figure handicapper but would not be a big hitter compared to others. I went from about a 235/245 average carry to getting most drives over the 260 yard carry when I was at the peak of the training.

However, in the last 2 years, I started a family and along with work getting busier at the same time. This meant very little to sporadic golf, with almost no practice, so I’ve regressed back to the norm when it comes to distance.

In the last 3 weeks, I’ve got back on the train, this time I’ve decided to go with a professional to help me in the speed department (the last time I just worked with the free online swing speed training videos along with a gym program I developed myself with the help of a fitness enthusiastic friend). 3 weeks in and the gains are good, but from memory the first 4/5 weeks will see the biggest increases. What’s most interesting this time around, is the gym work I’m doing. Maybe its because I’m working directly with the pro, so therefore I’m more diligent with my exercises, but I feel way more power in my lower body which is giving me much more confidence utilizing the speed gains.

The last time around, it took a good long while for the confidence to grow to allow me to use the speed gains when standing over the actual ball!!

About to pull the trigger on the stack system, where is best to buy from? Looks like around €345 with a discount code direct from US but I assume i'll get stung for taxes. On the lookout for a PRGR too but only amazon seems to have them now, I thought all the main retailers had them not long ago.

They’re good value now but I wouldn’t use the launch monitor part of it.

I'm pretty sure my brother in law has a prgr that he bought a couple of years ago and rarely used. If you're interested in a second hand one, I'd imagine he'd sell it at a reasonable price.

Just got mine this week so journey begins.

Did baseline and speed was accurate to mine. I changed temp to Irish levels, sea level and carry only so numbers are accurate to what I'd expect to see on course.

Did 1st Foundation session yesterday. Still feeling my way in but looking forward to seeing how I get on.

interesting, debating giving this system a go over the winter period.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭coillcam

If you have time and don't mind the cost it's a no-brainer I think. Pair that speed work with a short game session each week, should see the index drop.

Time is relatively low. 20 odd minutes every 3 days or so
