Which helped him play the last 5 holes in level, crazy scoring. Seems like it's an exhibition tournament

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,978 ✭✭✭Heighway61

Yeah bogey double bogey on the previous two holes I think.

I assume unless he wins next week he isn’t on the time sheet for following signature event

Would've been better off playing in Dubai and trying to make the top 30 that way.

Birdie blitz was never going to suit him, although he gave it decent shot

Great round from Shane yesterday, it would be nice to be able watch him out in the last few groups over the weekend.

    Bad end to his round

That was so poor from Shane today...dropped right out of the running unfortunately

He was playing the much harder South course yesterday. I say a graphic towards the end of the day where the overall scoring on the North course for the 1st two days was 343 under par and on the North course the scoring was +10. The commentators were saying they had never seen such a difference in the same tournament.

Another bad last hole for Shane. Didn’t get an invite for next week. Plenty got in to fill the field as call it. Maybe ignoring the fall season cost him

Messy start already. 3 bogies and a birdie in the opening 4 holes

    Shane is so frustratingly erratic.

Sees alert of an albatross on 7th hole

Sees he's only -1 for the day after it.

    Stupid sport

Some ability,,550 odd yards two shots, omg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,337 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

4 bogeys, 3 birdies and an albatross in his round so far. Frustrating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,337 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

    5 bogeys now 😠.

An albatross must be the rarest of all achievements in golf. I think even tiger has never managed one

    Not a double eagle 🤐

Looks like Shane will drop out of the top 50 in rankings this week. Nothing major for him as wgc are all gone and open win gets him into the majors this year but these events will hurt him if not getting in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭dublin49

pivotal year for Shane this year, could lose his exemptions next year for all bar the Open, must be a shock where he finds himself now although its still mostly in his own hands.Play well ,get a few top 3 places and move up the rankings ,he could not have foreseen being excluded from the big tournaments but golf is in a volatile period at the moment so make sure you are well inside the tent at all times or potentially miss out .

Despite the talent drain to Liv, a bunch of talent has arrived from the DPWT and amateur ranks. Not quite the same as Rahm and Hatton tbf but there is loads of competition for points/ranking. Not quite make-or-break territory here for Shane. However, he won't want to be scrambling for points at the tail end of the season. The talent is there and if he gets a run going on the putter he'll be fine.

He seems to get into marquee groups but can’t get on the time sheet for signature events. I guess nobody to blame bar himself

The way the PGA Tour is set up this season is very unfair to players like Shane.

As for the apparent paradox outlined in your post, it’s due to the fact that this season’s structure had led to weakened fields for non signature events. As Shane is currently restricted to these events, he’s going to be one of the highest ranked players in the field and hence is likely to be included in a marquee group.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,330 ✭✭✭Trampas

Shane knew he wasn’t getting into these events when he finished the season outside the top 70 in rankings. He could have played in the fall season to get in but decided not to. His choice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,315 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Fair play to him opting for the work-life balance. His hard work and talent has earned himself that luxury.

I would've went even further and backed myself even more and started off in Dubai as usual.

Doesnt seem fair that Shane around 50 in the world and a major champion and recent Ryder cup player misses out on these big events and Seamus Power gets in while outside the top 100 in the world.Glad for Power but strange system.

Well it appears that your world ranking position means nothing on the PGA tour anymore. It's all about how you did in the Fed Ex Cup and current form.

It's very unfair in my opinion. If you are not getting in these events you are sitting at home while everyone in the field earn Fed Ex Cup points and world ranking points.

There should be a second tournament if they want these smaller fields.

What company will spend millions on sponsorship on a gloried korn ferry tour event if they ran a second event.

pga tour don’t care about owgr as such. More about fedex. That’s even more important than the prize money for an event
