Favourite "sun" holiday you've ever been on?

I always leave it way too late in the year to book my sun holiday and end up paying over the odds and getting less for my money so this year I've decided to start looking now. Come summer I know I'll be jealous listening to everyone's holiday plans and wishing I'd thought to book there so I'm asking here now. What is the best holiday you've been on in a warm destination? Where would you recommend? It doesn't necessarily have to be a typical sun/beach holiday but it can be or just somewhere warm where relaxing by a pool or beach is also an option on top of all your other activities.

I'm 30 and it'll just be myself and my partner going. Maybe in June. Hopefully if the thread gets a bit of traction it'll help more people plan their next holiday!

Sardinia is a gorgeous island, well worth considering.

Mexico this Christmas. Absolutely amazing Occidental Xcaret hotel right next door to Xcaret theme park, definitely the nicest resort hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

El Rompido/Costa de la Luz in south-west Spain is terrific for short haul, it’s an area of Spain favoured by the Spanish and Portuguese rather than foreigners. Lots of interesting nature to observe, and charming towns.

Sardinia has great beaches, very nice coast. I love Croatia, but it’s quite expensive now, and most beaches are pebbly.

Sardinia is your best option for a good value beach holiday, as is Sicily.

Spain is getting quite expensive and some of the Greek islands where the prices are astronomical (Santorini, Mykonos).

Not too many beaches in Sicily relatively speaking (lots of rocky coast) but have a look at Mondello.

Malta is a great spot. In the Euro and cheap. Very British influenced as a result of WW2. Food is generally good so the all inclusive is better value than spots like Greece.

Have a look through, get some ideas for where to go: https://www.sunway.ie/sun-holidays/sardinia/

Positano is great but it's very expensive and the beaches are small, avoid late July/early August as it's peak holiday season for Italians.

Malta is nice too but again, small crowded beaches and the island is very densely populated.

I stayed in Alghero last year and loved it, went twice actually. Lovely beaches and the port area is gorgeous.

Alghero too. Amazing food. Loads of great beaches and plenty of options to keep one entertained.

We went there last year. Stayed in Costa Paradiso in the north of the island. It was very, very quiet. This was in June.

Benidorm in Spain and Albufeira in Portugal are 2 brilliant spots if you're looking for a nightlife holiday for all age groups.

Benidorm is the best value I've been to in while, plenty of places doing pints for €1.50 - €3 during the day. At night time the strip is chaos, groups of all ages, lots of English but just to say, I've been there 3 times and never seen any trouble.

Albufeira is a little bit more expensive but the Old Town is a nice, friendly spot and lights up at night, the New Town is hen and stag heaven.

I'm wondering does anybody else have any good recommendations for a mid-30s aged lads holiday? Preferably we like:

    1. Cheap beer

    2. Sun, sea, sand

    3. Good nightlife

    4. Ideally not too far away, ie Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece etc

Any recommedations would be great, thanks.

    Benidorm 😎

Have you been? Great spot for a lads or girls holiday.

The Old Town is genuinely nice as well if you prefer something a bit more quiet and authentic away from the chaos.

Albufeira was lovely in the 90s and 00s and has turned into another pissed up tacky Brit fest. Quite sad actually.

As for Benidorm, Jesus f<cking Christ.

Ye they're both class, great fun.

Any other good, lively spots for reasonable prices?

Logos in Portugal or coralejo in fuerteventura are nice relaxing spots. Nicest beach trips probably Egypt or the cayes of Belize but different type of holiday

Is that in Wexford? Funny I have a mate who has a mobile home down there and swears by it, goes regular on weekends.

....and he loves Benidorm as well, so his advice is kosher 🙂

I love Portugal, I do prefer spots with a bit of nightlife but I spent a few nights in Olhao a few years ago and it was a lovely little town. Very quiet and relaxing, the food markets down at the harbour were brilliant, I'm a big seafood fan and Portugal is a seafood paradise.

Never really considered Egypt or Belize but I'm open to suggestion.

In my younger days I used to go clubbing in Benidorm. The craic that was had. I could tell some stories.

Back in the day, you couldn't beat hopping between the Greek Islands. Went back to Mykonos a couple of years ago and it was all changed. Couldn't move for Love Island wannabees and eye-watering prices for everything.

Crete on the East side of the Island is nice. The West side is a bit tacky.
