Snow to the north. Heavy frost to the south. Nothing in Tullamore apart from a nice sunrise.

Had a spin this morning Mayo to Mohill Leitrim.

Got up early to allow for bad roads.

All fine temp on the car never went below 2.5 degrees.

My station hit a low of -6.4C south of cork city, still -5.1C at the moment. It will be interesting to see what the max is today, yesterday got up to 6C in the afternoon.

The weather is truly balmy, wasn't as cold as yesterday when I left the house in Castleknock then over to Coolock to work, it was bastarding Baltic, more cold than yesterday is the opinion of many

Conditions tonight will be different with a countrywide sub zero environment

Thread carefully on any untreated roads if heading back after dusk

They've had a nice bit of snow up in Ulster overnight. Stealing all our snow again the feckers! Hopefully later tonight there will be some snow down here

Still -5 at Moore Park (near Fermoy, ca. 25 miles north of Cork city) at 10.30am. -3 still widely across the city. Some places unlikely to get above zero you'd imagine.

A degree above freezing at most in some places, if at all.

These kind of temps at night in January during the 80s wouldn't raised an eyebrow. It just shows how far we have come. By the way did you hear about the mjo passing through phase six soon:)

Mental altogether must be over 100 pages between both threads for a skift of snow 🙈

We've been so unlucky given the potential we had at one point. Most of the country still completely snowless without a single flake so far this winter. At least we've had some frost which we fail to get some winters. The frost here is all but melted now even in the shade with the milder Atlantic air but it should be frosty again tonight until Thursday night and that will be it for the forseeable future.

Yep. It feels like most Winters for the last decade or so we are as much chasing some poxy frost nevermind snow.

Lack of fitness, excess weight, inheriting an amazing pair of dogs I refuse to kennnel and financial reasons have prevented me going Skiing for 15 years. I'm currently losing the excess weight and getting fitter and the financial pressures will ease and God Love them but the Pooches only have a few more years left in them (Going to lose the older one this year at some point based on her issues and age of 17yo in April). You better believe that thereafter I'll be back going on a Skiing Holiday every year for my Snowfix cause I sure as hell never get it in this country anymore.

I would expect Met.ie to issue a snow/ice alert for Donegal and Connacht, and maybe Cavan before evening

The clouds in the distance here have a snowy look about them. Now to see if they actually make it this far.

The lowest air temperature ever for January was recorded on this day back in 1881, at Markree, Co. Sligo. It was -19.1°C📒

Today, the provisional lowest air temperature is -7.4°C, recorded at Thomastown. Co. Kilkenny 🥶🌡️

The colder 850s will begin to move south over Donegal (letterkenny below) and further southward across the island from 6-7pm. Showers will begin to push into the northwest tonight and will turn increasingly to snow.

You would think Met Eireanns forecast of 0 to -4 tonight is underestimating the cold, certainly for the South!! Its hovering 0 all day in Cork and last night got down to -6!!

Things like pipes freezing is going to be a major issue by Friday I would think. Any mild sector clearing tonight
