The 'Tree Strategy for Fingal 2022-2032' says:

Leaf Fall: The loss of leaves from trees in the autumn is part of the natural cycle and cannot be avoided by pruning. The composting of leaves is encouraged as a way of environmentally recycling this valuable resource. In addition, the Council organises a street cleaning service which sweeps leaves from most streets and residential roads during the autumn period.

This is the opposite of what you are saying. I am seeing road sweepers cleaning up leaves, even using a special tool to push them into mounds for later collection by FCC.

With the tiny gardens most people have now, either because they are new-builds with small gardens or older ones with extensions/paving, is there much demand for this compost? Real compost is also a lot different from "potting compost". i.e. looks like "muck" to most people. What happens to the compost if no-one takes it away?

If no one takes it away it could be dumped onto nearby areas with trees. In my estate all the cages are beside groups of trees.

I use to use fixmystreet before they got rid of it, reporting problems was so easy.

There are many people and groups around Dublin 15 who contribute in that way to the community. Tidy Towns Groups, Residents Associations and Clean-up Groups have all signed up to the leaf mould cage initiative and are doing their bit.

All part of the effort to promote a circular economy and reduce waste.

In Littlepace Hunters Run area of D15, the council came around in the last week and used a small snow plough to push leaves into piles with the assistance of a leaf blower.

They have today gone round with the truck and grabbing arm to take away those leaf piles.
