    To end with season 4

Oh damn. I wonder how much that's going to mess with the writers plans, given there WAS an agreement for 5 seasons total.

Sounds like we're going to get a total mess of a season 4 as they super compress two seasons worth of story into a single run.

Feels like it should be do-able. The season finale did feel like it was setting something up.

One thing's for sure, now that this is going to be the final season bodies are going to drop. I'd say side characters like Roche might be most at risk, while I reckon even main one of Layton's Ladies will bite it. God knows if Wilfred will live.

Maybe everyone will die. Nice optimistic ending.

I'd be guessing it's either a clean split from the film and have an ending .. or remerge to setup for the film timeline.

That warm spot never looked especially verdant! Not sure where or how they'd survive there.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 24,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

I assumed anyone who survived there would end up trying to get back to the train eventually anyway. Although that is based on the understanding that the series is a prequel to the film.

No, not technically. According to this ...

It's a prequel in the sense it happens a few years before the events of the film take place, but it's not the same timeline either. So I don't expect things to align themselves up such that the movie then takes place.

A lot depends on how far into filming they are and if they've got much flexibility to adapt to being cancelled.

Probably the right choice to end it now and gove them time to put an real ending in place.

I can see a lot of Warner scripted shows getting the axe now with the Discovery merger and a move to more Discovery type cheap to make reality type shows.

Couple of articles from the end of March said they'd started filming. Pre covid I think the average show spent about 2 weeks filming each episode, even allowing for 3 now.... feels like they'd be pretty far into it by now.

Filming of the final season in Canada has been halted do to extreme heat.

Upto 14 crew and backround actors have been taken to hospital duee to heat exhaustion.

The way the world is going it feels quaint the show posits climate collapse as a great freezing ,(though I know technically the freeze was caused by an attempt to arrest global warming).

Hope everyone is ok though; sounds like the background staff were made to hang around outside longer than they should have been.

I assume by that that it hasn't been filmed? S3 was pretty terrible

I think it was filmed and they are looking for a new home for it now

WB Discovery are the biggest disaster. I swear, it's ridiculous that even having something filmed and completed doesn't guarantee it getting aired anymore.

Don't Netflix have the rights to this outside of the US? I wonder how that works for them, can they just air it anyway?

The whole industry is in flux at the moment - CW being the worst clusterf*ck

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

This is ridiculous. Season 4 was already supposed to be the last one, having been shortened from its 5 season story. If season 4 was already shot why scrap it all at this late hour? It must surely have some value as a complete series for streaming. Bizarre and frustrating.

Considering they're getting rid of some big shows like Westworld from their streaming platform, I don't think they're worried about streaming this show.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Westworld was a big investment that flopped though; I'd have presumed a story complete mid-budget series had at least some value - especially if it had supposedly already been shot.

As mentioned Netflix had international broadcast rights so maybe they'll swoop in to air the last season; they've done that kinda thing before with shows.

Feels like cash has tightened up. The Discovery purchase to create Warner Bros. Discovery feels like when the .. i dunno.. when the bank run started?

To be fair it felt odd years that so many service thought they could all exist a thrive in the market.

Probably a bit of dust settling to happen before any news. The money involved will probably be a big thing for any of that news.

I was reading earlier that the people who actually make the show negotiated to buy the rights to it after this decision was made. That should make it a lot easier to shop it to another streamer. Obviously the fact it's already filmed and ready to go too.

Does TNT not airing season 4 affect Netflix being able to stream it here?

And if it is still coming to Netflix does anyone know when?

I don’t understand why TNT are not going to air it if it is ready to be aired.

Why is HBOMax removing shows like Westworld?

EDIT: Never mind - I googled it ;)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Looks like the final season is still being shopped around - though you'd think Netflix would have snapped it up by now; especially given Season 4 had already been shot...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Considering Netflix have the worldwide rights outside of the US you would wonder why they can't air it already.

Unless there is some sort of clause that it must air on US TV first before Netflix can air it.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Either that or they reckon it's not worth it and was never much of a show for them. It's all very odd, given the final season is in the can.

Well you imagine Netflix had already paid for the rights to air it so even if there metrics say it isn't a big hit for them they would still want what they paid for.
