Mary Robinson. Best avoided or ignored.

I agree. She must have close to one of the highest carbon footprints of any individual living in this country…

up to 2016 she and her husband owned two homes in this country and they have been globetrotting across all 7 continents extensively…

she’s 79 now and in fact looking every day of it and more. Maybe she’ll retire out of the spotlight, hopefully…

    A hypocrite….. a total… don’t do as I do, instead do as I tell you merchant… Zero time for anyone like that…

Mary does nothing except anything that benefits Mary. Hypocrite of the highest level.

how is her “climate justice” consultancy benefitting from this?

a mouth-piece of self aggrandisement, cold and calculating .. as someone said earlier, best avoided.

Why is a cretin like this still afforded a platform stupid conclave of corrupt and manically strange irrelevant bygones that think they have the answer to so many global issues which some of them had a hand in creating.

Set up a knitting group and toss them all into it to screech at each other about how they can fix everything. Mad with power but only because they keep getting a chance.

I bet Gretta is doing the same in 45 years.

Mary Robinson is an absolute sickener.....her and her ilk preaching would encourage me to increase my carbon footprint....

Ill actually up the thermostat here now in her honour....

    Ahh....nice and toasty...thanks Mary...

It is funny how the bunch of ye are happy to criticise Robinson but don't try to prove her claim wrong. Where is the anger towards Al-Jaber for his obvious anti-climate change bullsh1t?

    Well done Mary. Great lady.

A lot of Irish men hated Mary Robinson when she was elected president. It was no place for a woman. She gave other women notions. The cheek of her to be intelligent. I see the same sentiment lives on.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Because we voted them in.

    That's literally how it works

Most of the climate change ‘solutions’ just end up as another tax. It’s no wonder people are sceptical of solutions from our betters that don’t think they themselves should be inconvenienced.

A truly unlikable individual who is making it up as she goes. Anything to help preserve her sense of purpose and the lifestyle that comes with it.

A hypocrite and a non mandated busybody.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 39,089 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

You may not like the individual but that does not mean that what she was saying yesterday was not correct. Was she wrong to repeatedly challenge Al-jaber for spouting his sh1te? As for non-mandated, she was there as chair of the Elders group.

  • Registered Users Posts: 362 ✭✭RobbieV

Yes non mandated. Not interested in their club of holier than thou preachers and busybodies

She should be banned from OPEC countries.

This happened a few weeks ago on webcam chat between him and a women's climate action group.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,793 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Yes because OPEC countries do not like women speaking to them...

Some day you will realise she was trying to help.

Champagne and caviar faux socialist. Fk her and her high horse she rode in on.

Because that is what happens in developing countries. Whenever there is war or famine etc., women and kids tend to come off worse. In many countries also, it is the women who do the agricultural work and similar. Such work will become more difficult due to changes in the climate with crops failing etc.

They aren't saying that Mary in Blackrock is going to be hit a lot harder than her husband Patrick.

Because he said nothing wrong. It's utter rubbish to think that whole countries can just wean themselves off fossil fuels in such a short period of time. Or that ordinary ( high) tax paying workers can afford heat pumps or overpriced EVs to get to work. I think he was just being realistic, and she didn't like that.

He said there is no scientific proof that burning fossil fuels causes climate change. This is demonstrably and utterly untrue. The technical solutions and actions have been known and agreed upon for decades but have been systematically hindered by OPEC and their mouthpieces. While he's probably correct to say that there is no time to wean societies off fossil fuels, it's his and his fellow vested interest's fault that what is required now are far more drastic solutions. His ongoing denial and intractability affects us all. Robinson put it straight to him, and he didn't like that one bit. Fair fux to her, I say.

Also, Robinson stated that climate change will affect the poorest first, and of those, women and children will suffer most. This again, has been shown time and time again to be true. The problem with your position, is that you probably won't see out your days as a 'high tax paying worker' when supply chains start to fail and the politics of scarce resources kick in.

I haven’t meet one hand wringer on climate change willing to give up their own foreign holidays. One of the climate protesters that interrupted the les miserables play in the UK was trying to have the court date postponed so they could go on their holiday to India. Some people love a protest or to demand change, just so long as they are not overly impacted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 457 ✭✭scottser

Is that really worse than those who make a gargantuan profit from oil actively hindering climate change efforts? Al Jaber is using his considerable influence at C28 to protect his profits and status. That's a scale of hypocrisy a protester going on holiday is never going to match.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,147 ✭✭✭opinionated3

He actually said there was no scientific proof that ditching fossil fuels immediately would ensure the 1.5 degree limit wouldn't be breached. And IMO he's correct.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,261 ✭✭✭Potatoeman

It’s hypocrisy, it’s hard to take hypocrites seriously. The head of extinction rebellion was a global trotter too but now he’s aware of global warming we all need to act right now! He didn’t give a toss when he was travelling the world.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 39,089 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

So people aren't allowed to change their ways? We're truly f**ked then!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,399 ✭✭✭Rosahane

The only countries campaigning for "Climate Change" are in the EU and North America and Australia.

The rest are ramping up their emissions and deforestation as fas as they can. China is heading towards half of worldwide emissions to produce expensive climate solution technology for the West.

Meanwhile we cripple ourselves with carbon taxes.

    You have to wonder!

    ...follow the money 😏

we cripple ourselves with carbon taxes

Would you cut the nonsense? You're not being crippled by carbon taxes FFS!
