The 94 - 96 card aligns with how I called it in here as it went. Seems to me the most correct call. Cameron played her part in a battle, but Katie did enough to edge it.

The other two cards have rounds awarded to either fighter that are very difficult to square with what I was watching.

I had the same score as you but there were four rounds that could have been given either way depending on whether you judged volume over power shots or vice versa and you couldn't really disagree.

No doubt Cameron had more power on her jab but she was beaten for volume in most rounds. The tighter rounds volume wise I gave to Cameron.

I'd be more focused on the belts and Katie to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,257 ✭✭✭✭ted1

Could the trilogy be at lightweight with all belts up for grabs? Could Cameroon make the weight ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,404 ✭✭✭✭walshb

She could make the weight, but doubt she'd give up any advantage here. Katie makes 135 easier than Chantelle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,208 ✭✭✭squinn2912

Couldn’t see it she’s big for the weight as it is what would it be another 5 lbs? Big ask

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,404 ✭✭✭✭walshb

She’d make it, but likely hurts her more to make it than Katie. Chantelle has fought at 130 and 135

I dont see what the issue with Croke Park is.

Even if they sold 60,000 tickets at an average of 100 euro per ticket that would be 6m gross, costs would be less than 1.5m.

4.5m profit, thats just on ticket sales alone and Im sure the average ticket price would be much higher.

    Hearn is a gangster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,318 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

The boy Hearn knows Poor Pat is an easy mark, and a sucker for ‘de partie’.

    Italia 90 lives on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭rolling boh

Do you think it would sell that many tickets at 100 euro average seems a tall order .I would love it to happen for Katie but not sure people would pay that much for the tickets .People are all talk about going to things until it comes to handing over the money .

He’s not a gangster. He’s a boxing promoter. Unless you have evidence that he’s involved in criminal activity? And if so, what does this make Katie? Her and Hearn have been connected closely for years..

I suppose there are a few things at play.

There hasn't been a boxing match at Croker since 1972.

What are the logistics of holding a boxing match there for boxing - rings, support infrastruction around and above the ring, walk ons, etc

You've got to factor in the Irish weather so whatever infrastructure is there will need to be covered.

All of those would determine what the ACTUAL capacity of the venue could practicably be. For example a lot of the higher tiers in Croker could be completely closed due to restricted views etc.

People say the capacity of croker is 80K but would it be 80K for a boxing match - is it 80K or is it more for a regular concert for example based on practicailites around where people sit/stand.

So you are straight away in a position where the capacity can be "fluid" to a point where they can initally release 20K tickets, then another 20K and say it's sold out at 40K and maybe 40K is the only safe and practicable number that can be there for a boxing match.

Hard to know what the range of ticket prices could be - but I really wouldn't enough casual fans or event junkies to shell out more thn €50 - €80 for something like this in enough numbers to make the numbers work, particularily with the ancillary costs of attending events such as this being so high.

    I could well be wrong.

I see the media are completely ignoring the clear knockdown in the first round.

Dazn commentary was embarrassing. Love Andy Lee, but jaysus, some perspective please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,804 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

Lee called the knockdown to be fair, but yes he was very pro Katie, his commentary was more akin to a cornerman shouting encouragement.

that said he is a legend so i give him a pass!

I really dont think they'd sell that much. The avg Irish punter has never been to a boxing match, its never occurred to them to buy a ticket for a boxing match. There is a bit of a mental leap there. Much as 'we all love Katie'; I think for most people that doesnt extend beyond saying so on Facebook. The other thing - women dont attend sporting events with other women - generalisation I know; but I've been to heaps of LGFA matches, womens rugby matches, its mostly families and young kids. You dont get groups of young women going along to watch it in the same way lads would go to the soccer. Not in enough numbers anyway.

And then the other thing is - families/ kids wont be going to it. Cost is too high, what 11 year old wants to sit through 6 fights with lads theyve never heard of before Katie comes on at 10.30pm. Maybe I'm wrong, just how I see it.

From my music perspective you'd rarely see women going to gigs on their own (in ireland) either but they do travel from abroad, not sure why that is

Hearn is a shrewd promoter who working the room to see what he can get out of Pat.

    Nothing wrong with that.

Katie wants to go out with the Big Bang in Croker ….nothing wrong with that either.

However it’s obvious Hearn wants to pump t poor Pat to make a national event out of his promotions

Hopefully whatever government will see through this strategy and if he wants the event in Croker, let him pony

    up the moolah for everything.

That might bring a bit of realism into things.

Think they should keep talk of 80 k out of it no way would they sell that many . A balance would have to be found between keeping prices low enough to get families and casual people to go and filling the capacity they are looking at .Would hate to see a load of empty seats and a load of free tickets just being wasted by folk just not turning up on the night for the flimiest of reasons .

Genuine question, Have you ever been to croker? the size of the pitch makes this completely unfeasible IMO. when it was used for Rugby and soccer it was a disaster because the pitch was so big the rugby pitch was miles away.....imagine a boxing ring? €50 quid for any upper tier seat would be enough to charge to watch ants boxing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭rolling boh

The Aviva would be a better place if they want a big venue much more compact .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,472 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Its a long time ago, 1972, but do you know that 25000 people turned up to see Muhammad Ali fight a bum in Croke Park.

This is when people didn't have much money, when there wasn't tens of thousands of hipsters around the place.

You'll get €100 easy for the upper tier and a bunch of them will bring binoculars.

i mean more in the nice fella legend rather than an actual legend, altho as a legitimate irish world champion he is in rare enough company.

Croke Park was much smaller and more compact back then. If you are up in the upper levels of Croke Park for a boxing match, you'll see nothing other than a couple of bodies in the ring flailing arms. You won't be able to see who has given a proper belt to the other, and you'll spend most of your time just following it on the big screen (assuming they will be showing it on the big screen).

I cannot see how having it in Croke Park will work. It's far too big. They are not going to have anyone in the Hill. And can't have Davin stand either as it's too far away. I presume the ring would be around the middle of the pitch. And even that is still too far away if seating half way back in the Hogan and Cusack. I know the atmosphere is better at a boxing match than a GAA match; but it would still be very subdued in comparison to what it was on Saturday night in 3Arena.

I would never pay €100 for an upper tier ticket. The most I would pay for any ticket for a boxing match would be around €70. And would only do so if it was a decent seat - where I would have a proper view, and feel like I am part of the event, rather than sitting in some part of the stadium where I am getting nothing from it. And I'd say there are many thousands of the same view. I'm sure that there are the core 10,000 or so who will pay the €200 or €300 for tickets regardless of what the venue is. But that's not enough to make Corke Park a viable option.

Sorry but Katie Taylor is not in the same stratosphere as muhammad Ali in 1972.......25000 people would have paid to see Muhammad Ali fight a punch bag back then
