This little system looks very potent. The winds aren't tied down yet but the rainfall out of this looks horrendous for most of the country and flooding looks a strong possibility. The met office have their warnings for the North out nice and early. Met eireann just have an advisory that most people will be not be too familiar with, so I hope they move on time with warnings for this event, it's only over 24hrs away.

Happy birthday syran, maybe they could name this storm after you in your honour for all the fabulous work you do

Happy birthday Sryan! Thank you for all your wonderful photos and input in general that you give to the boards.is weather forum. The storm type system reminds me of Storm Ali, nasty, quick, lot of damage.

Wasn't expecting to come to this, thanks very much!

Had a lovely morning for it at the Phoenix Park with some patchy mist, a crescent moon and a slight red sky (nothing compared to what those further south had) followed by an outbreak of thicker fog and mist that gave some spectacular light as well as a fogbow for my third time this autumn. I can't ask for much better mornings than this. Felt distinctly cold too, a big difference to the same day last year when Shannon recorded a new national November record for high min temperature not getting below 14.9C all day.

I propose Met Eireann name our next Storm, Storm Sryan! In recognition of his extraordinary capacity to retain meteorological information. Who needs AI when you have the Sryan brain to compile and retain weather data!

God it must be going to be bad overnight with this new storm most schools told not to open until 10am to avoid the main part of it.

This weekend in the east of Iceland proved to me that winter should be my favourite season but unfortunately, the rubbish that we're subject to most years in Ireland means it's my least favourite season. It was nice seeing the frost sparkling and the snow glistening in the sunshine on Saturday. It was a strange day because it was -8C in the mountains, which froze some of the water in my bottle, but I was roasting and sweating a lot from all the walking. Sunday was somewhat cloudier but there were snow flurries making it a perfectly nice day. I also saw icicles for the first time since the BFTE. I'm back in Reykjavik now where it was yet another sunny day. The monthly average here is 38.5 hours so this spell is insane, I wouldn't be surprised if we exceeded that average already but don't have access to figures. The sunniest on record is 1996 with 79.2 hours, it will be interesting to see how close we get to this record.

Some wicked showers in Galway this evening, insane rain rates.

I have been living here for a few months but I will be living in Ireland again from next month on. If I can get good wintry weather before I'm back I won't be too disappointed with a poor winter in Ireland but even here there are no guarantees until January.

After another sunny day today, Dublin Airport is not far from nearing 60 hours which for November is exceptionally sunny after 15 days.

The whole 1991-2020 Nov average is only 72 hrs.

Probably the sunniest first 15 days of November on record here.

The sunniest I'm aware of is 2016 with 55.2 hrs after the first 15 days.

Did anyone see the latest post by Matt H over on Netweather? I know its highly unlikely, but if we somehow had a repeat of the December 2000 cold spell I think i'd have to celebrate with a few drinks. It would be rude not to.

    Second post here:

It's a pretty technical discussion about tropical convection waves...the summary is we could be getting a stormy start to December with the prospect of a cold Xmas/New Year period.

Up to 140mm now in Sligo for November as we continue to average nearly 10mm per day. If the current GFS verifies I may see my first 300mm month but not sure if November 2009 was. I started recording then. I've had a number of 200mm months and November 2023 will surely be one as well.

Maybe Sryan has the numbers for November 2009. Carrick was flooded for days that time so Sligo must have been battered too. Though this year has the danger of eclipsing that.

The High forecast from November 21st looks weaker on this run but maybe it will show stronger on future runs and wel only get 200mm.
