This really doesn't look good. Surely there would have been an electronic version produced, which would be available on a backup server.

I wonder does Bakhurst's contract include a probationary period?

The original notes may have been hand-written and then should have been transcribed. Don't know if Bakhurst is on probation. He seems to have been brought in to try reform RTE.

It wasn't just NK though, "Ms Forbes wrote to Mr Tubridy in July 2020, providing a letter of comfort and guarantees his pay would not be cut." Tubs himself is complicit.

Going forward it's the remaining 'talent' who should be worried. The next round of contract negotiations will have the balance of power back in RTE's court (where it always should have been).

Yes. Similar to Ben Dunne cocaine episode in Florida. Who could have dreamt where would lead. I had to goggle to remind myself exactly of the chain it started.

Michael Lowry, house extension, mobile phone licence scandal

McCracken tribunal, payments to politicians from Ben Dunne

Haughey resigning after we heard he had got a million quid from Ben I think

Ansbacher scandal , overseas bank accounts

Catherine Martin is the same gene pool as the RTE staffers , she probably has coffee mornings with the girls from RTE

It was supposed to have been announced while Tubridy was presenting an award at the Irish News awards in London. Guess Virgin Radio doesn't need another tea boy. Has the Icelandic trip been cancelled yet?

Many thought he may go into the jungle for I'm a Celebrity, others believe that London has been calling out to the presenter and now that a slot on Today FM has come free well you can be sure that many believe he is heading there.

This week Ryan decided to give us the load down on one job he is in line for.

'Big job to do in a few weeks as the good people of Clifden, Co. Galway have invited me to switch on their Christmas lights on Friday, November 24th at 6 pm.'

    Communication was the greatest fatality

Hopefully we get a few people, front and centre, to shout out asking for our money back.

The recent volcano news in Iceland would make you wonder has he been overtaking hearses in that electric Vespa of his 😂

"Load down" ? Top class journalism, though NKM probably wrote it

So what RT doesn't and didn't run RTE. RT went and got an agent and got the best deal possible. NT did what any half decent agent or trade union rep does. The problem is RTE of their own volition agreed to those payment terms. We don't fully understand why and how they will prevent that happening again.

The fact is RT will at some point get a new job. But RT getting a new job when ever it happens won't change the decisions that have to made at RTE. Obsessing about an unemployed presenter takes the focus away from RTE and the broader challenges/decisions facing publicly funded media going forward.

He seems to be tempting us repeatedly with the big job that never appears.

He needs to stay in the headlines. Otherwise the PAC is going to dominate the news cycle.

His fellow travellers in the media and PR will ensure he stays in the public eye.

It's in all their interest to project a scenario that they are all of superior intellect and John Q Taxpayer would be lost without their valuable leadership.

Ballsy's programme on Sunday is a prime example where "everyone is great' and all the excerpts are "brilliant".

This nest of liggers needs to be controlled and this business of "outside gigs" on the basis of a media

persona on a publicly funded platform needs to be cancelled.

Is public opinion different in Clifden or is this some local female politician fan of his?

Presume by "invited me", this is not a paying gig 🤔

Christmas is a time for "giving back".

Perhaps Tubs will announce he's "giving back" our €150k in Clifden.

This seems to be the programme for that Icelandic book conference.

Some famous writers on it and Tubridy. I supposed that the payments scandal was a bit of a horror story for him. Wonder if he will describe books as being "bonkers" or "delicious"?

That's exactly it, they didn't like the way Tubridy was exposed as it affects them all and pulls them all down a notch.

They railed against the Dail committees grilling the D4 accented RTE executives with their country accents. I thoought that was delicious but not the media guys

Interesting "fact" in that article: the Virgin Radio gig is holiday cover and part-time. Not quite the big job it was made out to be and no announcement yet. At least Tubridy is still famous in Clifden.

That's the Dublin media village. Idiots welcome. :) Seriously though, journalists can earn a few quid from appearances on radio and TV shows and RTE is the biggest broadcaster.

And that’s why they back up the RTE crowd as they know enough not to kill the cash cow.

    Until now anyway!!!

You have to love the clickbate tabloid media

    Beloved RTÉ Soap faces Axe

I wonder which soap would it be Fairly **** or the other non-existent soap operas?

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

RTE proposing to reduce headcount by 400 and explore a partial sale of their campus along with significant reductions in those that earn over €100k. Closure of digital services likely.

Anything that doesn't address the 2fm albatross is not worth the paper it's written on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,254 ✭✭✭Damien360

The fact that anyone may earn over €100k is not the issue. It's earning that when the competition couldn't possibly pay that. There is no point them quoting US or UK salaries, it's local competition that matters. RTE doesn't have the clout to compete with the UK or US for staff and they need to accept that. Competing with TV3 and any other national broadcaster that matters.

I think you're just talking about what RTE calls "talent" there.

There will be a lot of staff on 100k+ who are not "talent". People who work in roles that are not specific to broadcasting.
