National disgrace? I think issues where lives are lost are under that category.

Roll on summer tour, autumn series, etc all crap means nothing nothing nothing. Blew it again ,lineout a mess ,breakdown a mess, bottled it ,feel fcking sick

We were absolutely bullied in the early stages.

"This will linger for Irish rugby for 4 years"

Luckily The Cranberries also have a song for that.

He bottled a penalty too. They are the margins. It seems that you cant call certain players out though.

In order to progress we need to do that.

Sexton was a great player. One of the best we have produced. It looks as if we could suffer big time now though relying on him this long.

Best of luck to him. Owes us nothing.

France NZ final... France's world cup to lose.

Well that's pretty soul destroying. I'm honestly gutted, kinda surreal watching the last ten minutes. We weren't at our best, but we played pretty well all in all. Our lack of ruck support in crucial moments killed us. If that ball comes out of the maul toward the end we would have scored, but instead we get held up. Disappointing the scrum penalties given away too, regardless of how we feel about them.

No shame in losing to New Zealand in this game, they were immense. The effort to hold up the ball after the maul was something else. That final defensive set was immaculate. Very Crusadersy, giving up ground if required, but hugely disciplined and eventually they forced the turnover. Better team on the day. It happens. And let's be honest, that third try was a beauty. If that was the difference between the two teams, so be it. They were clinical given any space, as expected.

Still going to take a while to get over this.

I text my friends last week that Porter has been getting away with illegal scrummaging all tournament. Barnes had his homework done tonight and Porter didn't adapt

It's not a Mayo "curse" - We simply don't have the experience of winning knockout games. I quoted a pundit before the game that said NZ know how to win a QF, we think we know how to win one. It's going to take us facing the likes of Italy or Scotland in a QF to get over this hurdle.

That Jordan try after halftime was an absolute shocker. Dreadful defensive effort.

It does make me wonder if we would have lost the semi or the final, even if we had gotten through with a last gasp try. We were well off the pace tonight suggesting there would have been a huge question mark over our form.

They've won nothing yet. We had won a series over there when POM said that.

**** site with some **** moderators says it all, but at least the Irish team gave it their all on the field, they will and should be disappointed as if you are the No 1 ranked team (a worthless tag in my opinion) then they may feel they should have made the semi’s if not the final. The reality is the World Cup rugby draw was another shitshow of incompetence placing the top 4 rated teams in the word into 2 groups, you couldn’t make it up.

We bottled it, never won a single gain line or breakdown, never challenged their lineout while being nervous on our own everytime.

Whole pack was completely beaten up front 1 to 8, back row never turned up, deservedly beaten by a team that did.

    What a dickhead comment

Commiserations. NZ was unexpectedly very very good tonight. Didn’t give Ireland a lot of ball and ruck work was exemplary. That game was worthy of a final.

Nope. Terrible defences. Should of been read and bad miss

That was an incredible stat, couldnt believe it when the commentators mentioned it. Makes sense looking back after hearing it but that's insane for a team flirting with top 3 ranking in gthe world

Best Irish team ever? Best at what? Once again we have failed at a world cup.

Thought we looked absolutely knackered in the last 15 minutes.

It took a very very good team to beat us- like a brick wall they were. Tiny tiny margins in the end, glad it didn't come down to sexton’s kick in the end, feel for everyone on here, well done folks!

    Seriously? Choked? Bottled it?

They were literally inches from a winning try. People on the internet really have no business making judgements like that about top level sports people. It’s nonsense and it’s insulting.

Genuinely thought we were going to do it at the end. We'd made huge metres from inside our own half and into New Zealand's 22. But just couldn't find the clear out this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭Irlandczyk

That wasn't our best shot though. Not by a long long way. This is a great team, and I had a lot of belief in them to grind out the win. But for some silly throwing away of penalties in the first half and a held-up try we would be coming away from the game elated having made it to the semis. As it stands though, we've gone out in the Quarter finals again. And again we find ourselves out because *we didn't give it our best shot*. Our best is far far higher than that. If both teams went into this game giving 100%, we'd have won. If both teams gave 100% and we lost, that's one thing. What really stings is that we simply didn't. I agree with Kearney: 75% at best.

Could still be 4 southern hemisphere teams in the semis

Where to go from here? Only downwards before more disappointment in 4 years.

Can we never produce a winger with out and out pace? Nothing and no one since Denis Hickey.

So so deflating, more the fact that when it really comes down to it and the pressure comes on, we crumble and always will. It’s a national thing and I don’t want think we will ever shift it.
