The SEAI ask you what model you're installing at application time alright, but you're under no obligation to actually install that model. I told them I was installing an Ohme, but actually installed a Zappi. No questions asked.

I have two competing quotes now , both for a Wallbox pulsar but one company says it needs a CT clamp(extra cost) and the other company who did an onsite inspection didn't recommend one.

Is this not what load balancing is for when you have an electric shower or something else running high power? Would this not make the need for a CT clamp unnecessary?

Ct clamp is for load balancing. It tells the charge point how much power is being used.

CT clamp tells the unit what power to pull and when to drop etc

Id say both are installing it but one made reference to it.

Anyone have to get a replacement RCD board for their Zappi? I've a v2 without built in wifi and recently had a self test error show up.

Contacted myenergi and they are sending out a replacement RCD board and will get a "warranty approved installer" to sort it out.

I think these Zappi CP's are a whole lot of trouble they seem to be mentioned here constantly giving problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,934 ✭✭✭eagerv

Yes, ours was replaced a year or so ago. Part arrived a few days after contacting Myenergi, their approved installer arrived about two days later and fitted part all under warranty.

Could also be that its very popular so you will then naturally hear more about the failures.

Every product has failures. Its how the company deals with them is the key and myEnergi are better than most.

I'm just out of warranty and they agreed to replace the RCD board as a goodwill gesture.

First time I've had any kind of issue with the Zappi, installed in August 2020.

I have to say I’m loosing trust in the Zappi since the V5 fiasco.

    Issue after issue.

Tonight for example, charging my BEV and it cuts out every now and again. Local coms lost. Then kicks back in. I thought maybe my car.

Plugged in the PHEV and it crashed after 30 mins. Output fault.

Random issues all centered around local coms and not charging at the full Voltage.

Reset after reset did nothing. Out of warranty so can’t go down that route.

Never once had these issues with other installs such as the ABL, Garo, Wallbox etc

That would drive me crazy nothing worse than an intermittent fault. My Eo went offline at a few weeks old but as a PowerPoint it's working perfectly.

I’m at the stage now where I’m just about to order a free Tesla charger using my referral credits. It’s a basic dumb charger but it’s free. I don’t export much solar in fairness after my house, battery and hot water is full I’d have very little excess so don’t need it but I suppose it’s nice that it fits onto the my energy eco system/ app.

Free charger that charges the car when required, I know what I'd be doing 😉

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,604 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Then after I posted the above, I reset and it charged. Other cars perfectly.

I’ve also just updated Eddi to 5.402 so all products are now up to date. Maybe that had something to do with it?

Time will tell, it's an awful lot of hassle just to get juice into a car, slow as it is at least a granny charger does what it's supposed to do. I couldn't live with a CP that behaved like that because as sure as there's shyt in a dog, the morning you're heading to the airport etc with the family the car won't have been charged.

Hello EV people! Looking for help/advice.

I have an EO Mini Pro 2 tethered home charger, which is actually a replacement model and is only

about 3 months old (warranty replacement - previous unit stopped working entirely and had a faulty chip).

The new unit has now.. stopped working. However, there is no obvious reason or fault (previous unit had red flashing LED).

    I have a 2023 Model Y LR.

    - Plug unit into car, Tesla latches on and indicator light on Tesla turns blue (indicates successful connection, but not charging)

    - EO wall unit remains flashing blue - indicates ready to charge

    - Tesla indicates "no power" from charger

Have tried everything I can think of:

    - Reset charger unit by cutting off power and rebooting

    - Removed charger unit from Wifi network, rebooted and connected (successfully) from scratch

    - Charged the car at a public charging AC 7Kw unit with no problems (car is not the problem)

Anyone have any ideas? There's no fault reported by the EO Mini, there is power to the unit, the car is successfully latching on when plugged in - but no electricity is flowing. I made sure also to turn off scheduled charging - didn't help.

    Thanks in advance!!

Can anyone recommend a reci electrician in leinster who would install 2nd hand zappi? I've read a few times its possible to get the grant. thanks.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,987 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Why is it impossible to get the grant, it's a straighforward online process and there is no issue whatsoever in using a second hand charge point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭Gerry

well, I did say possible :) I found an electrician.. so I just need a zappi v2 or v1 with hub now.

Quick question and sorry if it’s been mentioned here before.

we have a holiday home that has 2 electric showers and a priority switch to manage those.

are there any issue with installing a charger with that set up? Are there priority switches that can manage 3 devices?

Yes you can get a priority unit to manage 3 loads but there's no need as most chargers have the ability to manage the house load.

Load balancing allows the charge point to monitor the power used in an installation and it will reduce the power going to the car if you go above a safe limit,(set in the chargepoint).

Yep high failure rate with zappis.. I think you should be good if you get a working one under warranty.. ours failed within a few weeks due to screen going.. was easy to get it replaced.. the installer and the replacement engineer said they were flat out replacing broken ones..

That's what I'm hearing too. They're fine in warranty as Myenergi are good to deal with. Might be worth paying for the extended warranty.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,604 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Out of warranty they don’t care. Sorry. Nothing we can do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Am I right in saying that the Zappi has a 3 year warranty ? How much to extend it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭KCross

It was €140 for a 2yr extension. If there is one fault in those 2yrs it would probably pay for itself. You have to make up your own mind as to whether that’s worth it or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭joe1303l

At €70 per year it’s probably worth it, they seem to give quite a bit of trouble based on what I’ve seen reported on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,566 ✭✭✭Risteard81

I don't understand why they ask at application stage. It's entirely stupid and pointless.

I'd say it's more likely that one hasn't a clue and doesn't realise that a current transformer is required.
