Friday March 24th figures, the week after Tubridy announced he was leaving the show.

Friday night’s Late Late Show was watched by an average of 390,000 on RTÉ One and RTÉ One+1.

Friday September 29th, 2 weeks after Kielty's debut

The decline slowed but continued into his third show as Late Late Show host, as 486,000 people tuned in on Friday night.

Last time I checked 486,000 was a bigger number than 390,000

Might put the humble pie on hold for now.

I'd find myself looking back on the RTE player if I missed Tommy T.

I wouldn't have done so with Tubridy, or Kielty. I'm nearly coming to the conclusion that the Late Late is finished, mainly due to low calibre guests.

The elevation of people like Vogue, Baz, the celebrity architect Bannon, the Brennan Brothers, the 2 Johnnys etc is a poor reflection on what modern Irish society classifies as talent.

Yeah when you put it plainly like that in black and white it really brings it home just how low TLLS has got

Does anybody know how these figures are calculated? Or are they just estimates?

TAM Ireland are the group they are chaired by the broadcasters and use the Neilsen Ratings System.

1000 Households are chosen at random to compile daily estimates on what they are watching. This are process by Neilsen issued to the broadcasters.

1000 is enough for any type of research but ... I would argue to be robust you'd need 1000 in each province, 4000 altogether and then with in that breaking it down into 1000 urban, 1000 rural, 1000 suburban, 1000 small towns. Then with in them 1000 families, 1000 single people, 1000 people sharing, 1000 pensioners. and with in that 1000 children, 1000 15 to 25, 1000 25 - 45, 1000 45 - 65, 1000 65+

They you'd have a good over view across demographics, age, dwelling and so on. with just 4000 people

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Cool, so it's all bullish!t so.

No way of proving that 500k people actually watch this drivel.

He also has the actors strikes to deal with compared to RT. Didn't mind RT but found the show was getting worse every year.

There should be an option to request a free delivery of a stetson hat for added atmosphere while watching this special ... RTE must have a few thousands of them knocking around from a previous barter swap involving Dallas TV rights.

Mr Tyler announced that Roisin O’Dea will be returning to the Late Late as executive producer.

When you sit back and look at it objectively, the new LLS is quite cringey.

It's like a cheap imitation of Graham Norton show.

As I've already mentioned, it all feels very structured. 3 weeks so far have all followed the same routine. Guests all on at the start, go to break, have another 5 minutes with the guests, viewer competition "roll it there Michael", next guest, ad break, fake letter from some celebrity, audience participation, next guest.

And what is it with the roll it there Michael bit? He's copying Gay?

There's just something dead about the atmosphere. You watch UK chat shows and they're much more lively. Do they add laughing tracks or is it all the audience?

The audience is very slow to react or laugh. It does make a difference.

Are UK chat shows not pre-recorded rather than live? So they can include the best bits that got audience response and edit out the quiet parts or those that got less of a reaction.

    Good point.

Maybe the late late could be pre recorded?

Could have a set over in the UK. Kielty could get more guests then.

UK chat shows are all pre-recorded and expertly edited to within an inch of their lives. I'm convinced the team that edit Graham Norton's show could make an entertaining episode out of Norton doing some crochet. You have to remember that every utterance those celebrities make is pre-planned too. They all know exactly what's going to be asked by Norton, they know every skit and aside he's going to make, they are also told to be ready with anecdotes to tell. That show is much more like looking at a well rehearsed band than what you see when you watch the LLS.

As for the audience..............a slow to react, hesitant crowd has always been the hallmark of the LLS. I think it's an Irish thing. So often you see guests make jokes that would get howls of laughter in the UK, fall flat in Montrose. It's weird because we're supposed to the try hards, the nation that loves to be liked and is 'mad fer craic' but whatever it is about the LLS audiences, they are a very tough crowd!

I'm surprised to see PK being precious about the jockey skit, but fully agree with him about the guests in weeks 1 and 2.

Why bother with an Irish Chat show just buy in Norton?

I agree I have seen RTÉ attempts a pre-recorded chat shows and they just jump. Tommy Tiernan being the exception, but Angela Scanlon's show often would just have a jump edit, easier just to say its recorded as live or to produce as live.

After Joe Wicks last minute appearance last week....LLS producers have been seen out in Dublin Airport, stalking the Arrivals hall in a pathetic effort to pull anybody that has any degree of fame into appearing on tmw night.....

When the day comes, will you all jump in it and sing Waterline?

Like it or not but Irish country music is very popular outside of Dublin. It would not surprise me if there will be a rise in audience figures for the country special. I respect your opinion but your statement about the people of Monaghan and Tyrone is not very respectful. Is it the people from those two counties or country music in general you do not like? If it's the people I suggest you keep the above comments to yourself. 😡 By the way what's wrong with driving a lorry?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭tintin67

Think it's normally the highest rated LLS of the year apart from the Toy Show and maybe the Eurovision special so there's obviously a big market for this sort of stuff even if it doesn't float your boat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 220 ✭✭toggle toes

It is very popular especially up the North. As I said in my previous post it is more popular outside Dublin and with the younger generation. I have been to see many of the country music artists who normally appear on the special and I have to say for the price of a ticket which I might say is very reasonable between twenty five and thirty euro for about two sometimes three hours with a fifteen minute break.
