Rather I ask that to see if you would be happy to be accused of it in public. You can always get your day in court, be grand like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,474 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

People who blindly defend him are moronic, no question. I would tend to say that people who blindly believe an accuser are also moronic though. For some reason one opinion is lauded and the other pounced on, despite them really being the same opinion. We dont know, we weren't there.

He is 100% an odious individual who I have never had any time for whatsoever. But neither his personality or the fact that he tends to attract morons have any bearing on his guilt or innocence.

But our Kev got vindicated in court. He is grand now right? Life is 100% back on track.

    SIGH!

So you would be cool and the gang with your employer stopping paying you while an investigation was underway?

Youtube is how this man makes his money. You might (ha!) not like him, but thats a fact. He has been prevented from making money because the pitchforks are out.

He has already been bloody lynched, thats the effing point.

What exactly has he got left to lose at this stage?

He was worth that before the false allegations though. What has he worked on since?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,474 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

Thats complete and utter bullshit and you know it. Everyone knew who and what Brand was before this, he was pretty bloody open about it, so why is his reputation only ruined now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,474 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

Can you let us know the magical figure one needs to have in the bank to make it ok to have your life destroyed and have to go into hiding?

    Just for reference like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,474 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

Who is ignoring that exactly? Can you point to any posts regarding that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,474 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

He might "get off" because of the fact that its not illegal? What a bizarre attitude.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Fire, aim, ready springs to mind- it’s laughable really. Politicians and institutions jumping on a bandwagon to shoot somebody before any official legal criminal investigation takes place- if that’s the future of democracy and due process then we’re all fcked-but some idiots can’t see that- they just want to cancel Brand- judge jury executioner - Brand will fall on his own sword - there’s no doubt about that- we don’t need these politicians crawling out of the woodwork making it look like they care -especially considering many are shagging the office intern themselves or trying to bed young men whilst putting on a happy families wife two kids and a Labrador front

We don't know whether he raped her....or "just" raped her by not using a condom when asked (which is illegal in most forward thinking countries...but not in California seemingly). I don't think I'm the one with the bizarre attitude, but sure I will leave you to post over and over again on this thread with no one really bothered about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,474 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

You might want something to be illegal in another country but if it isn't then it isn't. Its not "getting away with it" if its not illegal. Any more than you got away with jaywalking on Merion sq. What's bizarre is that you want to apply laws from other countries.

    From Wikipedia

"Following the allegations leveled against him, Spacey maintained a lower profile and his career stalled.[74][75] In May 2021, it was announced that he had been cast in a supporting role as a police detective in the crime drama film The Man Who Drew God, directed by and starring Franco Nero, which is about a blind artist who is wrongly accused of sexually abusing a child.[76][77] The film reunited Spacey with Faye Dunaway, whom he directed in Albino Alligator. In August 2021, it was reported that he was filming in California for a small production, Peter Five Eight, directed by Michael Zaiko Hall.[78][79] In the movie, Spacey is said to play a charismatic serial killer.[80]

On November 3, 2022, Variety reported that Spacey was set to speak at the National Museum of Cinema and was going to receive a lifetime achievement award on January 16, 2023, despite the allegations against him.[81] On November 28, 2022, after winning a sexual battery lawsuit against him filed by Anthony Rapp, Spacey was cast in the British indie thriller Control. Its director, Gene Fallaize, dismissed concerns about working with Spacey.[82]

In 2022, Spacey was cast as the late Croatian leader Franjo Tudjman in the political drama Once Upon a Time in Croatia, directed by Jakov Sedlar.[83]"

Seems he had a few jobs.

Why are people still defending Brand? It's been known for years in entertainment circles that he was not to be trusted.

Dispatches and The Times and Sunday Times have spent over 3 years investigating Brand and with UK libel laws been so strict why would they spend 3 plus years concocting a smear campaign?

Brands video statement last Friday was designed to appeal to his Looney Tunes right wing supporters. When you have people like Katie Hopkins and Laurence Fox supporting him, what does that tell you?

So you would be cool and the gang with your employer stopping paying you while an investigation was underway?

Have you not read an employee handbook lately?

Nevermind that I live in a right to work state. The employer has it's own freedoms of association.

Let's see if it's illegal or not, the texts only hint at what happened it could be a few things.Either way it seems pretty reprehensible, unless you think they are faked? Do you not think the dispatches team and the times would have done due diligence in a multi year investigation...

Why are you so keen to defend him? Plenty of other things coming out now about him. Latest one today, which he admitted on air...

Seemingly reported to the BBC in 2019 and they did nothing. What is the tipping point for you? How many people need to come forward?

His life is not 'destroyed' and he does not 'have to go into hiding,' can you let me know when we are dealing with the realm of facts and not magical fantasy?

“People who blindly believe an accuser are moronic”- what about nine accusers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭amandstu

Does that number 9 include tonight's story on the BBC?

    From The Sunday Times:

"All said they felt ready to speak only after being approached by reporters. Several said they felt compelled to do so given Brand's newfound prominence as an online wellness influencer, with millions of followers on YouTube and other sites."

How bizarre! They didn't come forward so that justice would be served or to protect other women.

They were compelled to come forward because Brand was popular and influential online (as a, ahem, "wellness influencer"—yeah, right). Or rather that's what the people who did the investigation let slip—Brand's anti-mainstream narrative stance was reaching too many people online so he had to be targeted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,311 ✭✭✭lmao10

Who exactly didn't like his "anti-mainstream narrative stance" and targeted him as a result? Surely you know exactly who was behind that since you're making the allegation.

I don't know. There always seems to be this pushback whenever rapists, misogynists and so on face consequences. People defend convicted rapists like Trump and Masterson. Andrew Tate is awaiting trial in Romania for sex trafficking and people defend him. I was here for the 2018 8th amendment threads and they were overflowing with misogyny.

Maybe they don't like the idea of powerful men being held accountable in case they're next? Who knows. What's getting tedious is the bad faith defence tactics like derailing threads or pretending to ask questions.

If the allegations are proven to be true and Brand is subsequently convicted, what importance do their reasons for coming forward have on any of this? Had they not come forward, would it make what may have happened to them any more or less traumatic?

It's also perfectly possible that Brand as a comedian and an actor was 'harmless' (so to speak) but since he branched out into being someone who people are paying attention to in matters beyond mere entertainment, the victims might have felt it was important for others to know just what he's really like. Brand's level of fame and reach would surely bring him into contact with much more people now and, if allegations are to be believed, it could lead to him being in situations where he could assault again.

As has been mentioned, victims have numerous different reasons for not coming forward. Focusing on their motivations for not doing so is unhelpful and a distraction. What's important is the substance and, if true, whether they can be successfully proven and Brand convicted.

What proof do you have for this conspiracy theory?

    I don't think so.

He settled down and started a family in 2015, he currently spends most of his working time now making videos in a converted pub in his garden.

The idea he would be in more contact with more people now is pretty illogical.

but since he branched out into being someone who people are paying attention to in matters beyond mere entertainment

He has been doing that for years.

He was always ranting and raving about banks, the political elite, wealth distribution, Queer rights, immigration rights, etc.

He guest edited The New Statesman a decade ago.

I don't know what his videos are like but I'm sure it's the same ranting and raving with added.

Big Pharma made a fortune out of the pandemic - Well yeah, we asked Big Tobacco but they didn't have the required experience to mass produce vaccines and treatments.

The Defence Industry are profiting from the war in Ukraine, who did he expect to make and supply the weaponry of war, Fisherprice?

Michael Moore was doing similar stuff 20 years ago.

Sicko was about big pharma, Bowling for Columbine put the weaponry industry under the spotlight.

    It's show business.
