I see both the 17 Ioniq, and 18 Leaf are back up on wilson auctions for Tuesday

Wonder why they didn't sell last week; would there have been a reserve?

Ioniq looks good but no idea what battery it has, Leaf looks rough inside, and going by pics has about 200km range.

Likely didn’t make their reserve, I think those e-Golfs might make close to €15K. Small kms on them and lots of battery warranty left.

Pretty mad money for one imho. Nice cars but there's over a grand in auction fees on top of that and the general warranty is up, so zero come back, you can't even test drive it.

Not sure on deposit but I expect deposit is needed.

In terms of shafted, yes you can be shafted easily. No come back usually, no warranty from auctioneer. You cannot test drive car. You cannot even see car moving often. For an ICE if you are in right place at right time you might hear them start the car (often jump starting it as 12v is dead) and see them put tyre shine on bald tyres to make them look new. You cannot even sit inside the car and press buttons, check for visual damage to inside, or check for spare wheel etc.

As mentioned often prices are higher than private. You need to be very savvy, factor in fees, having to collect or get delivered, having to have cash ready on the day to pay full price.

The real key to a deal is setting a maximum price yourself before the auction starts so you don't get excited or end up in a bidding war. You may not know there is a hidden reserve minimum meaning a good deal is not even possible.

I went in person to an auction and had my maximum bid decided in advance on 3 or 4 cars on the day (intending to buy one), and none sold for a reasonable price when you factor in the risk. Some people deliberately auction cars with dodgy engines as they know you can't really test drive then.

That said if you live locally and there is little interest in the car you may nab a bargain but buyer beware.

A LR Model 3 brand new for €46k, that's decent value. But personally I'd wait for a 241 Highland

    The forum regular confirms!

Got a high mileage 2020 M3 LR AWD for 27k (25.5k + auction fees) at an auction back in June. Had a bit of suspension work done thereafter which was expected in case of a high mileage car.

I wouldn't pay for the same car more than 25k now. Also, one needs to factor in the risk that comes with buying at an auction. Unless you can check the motor, the charging (AC and DC) and especially battery health on site beforehand.

There were few medium-high mileage 192/201 M3 SR on DoneDeal asking 30k that were not shifting. I had a few prospects where I could push it to 28-29k but the auction was a better deal in the end. It was between almost expired warranty on SR vs almost expired warranty on LR for pretty much the same price (of course the auction was a risk).

A fair price for a medium mileage 192/201 SR with some warranty left is like 27k now, higher mileage 23-25k. Anyone selling for 30k is up for a long wait to sell.

    I see it now!

How is it possible that it's just €46,611 vs the standard €49,990?

Also both HP and PCP show 0% APR 😎

Plus inventory discount, also cheapest and least desirable colour.

Another price drop? there's 3500 happy previous customers over the last 2 years, do they do it on purpose?

Hey give us your money now, because we know we will drop the price in the next few months by another 3300 euro.

If you all wait another month or 2 you might save another 3 grand, watching a video on the model y by this crowd,

Its in the play list, but the guy said they are making 40% profit on the Y, so there is plenty of room to drop, if you hold off pressure might mount to drop again.

That's just a teaser for a longer session of unwrapping the structural pack, but the Tesla profit margins are staggering. Where they are head and shoulders above the competition and I'm probably forgetting one or two:

-aerodynamic cars with efficient drivetrains, means the cars go similar distance on a 60kWh battery than the competition with an 80kWh battery. That alone is a cost saving / extra margin of $2-3k per car

    -gigacastings

-economies of scale, Tesla essentially only produce two cars, that share many parts. There are very few colours or options

-procure or make batteries cheaper than others

    -giga factories

Tesla’s reported gross margin was 18% in their most recent July filings ($9k/vehicle). Considering the Y accounts for about 75% of their car volume (according to Troy Teslike’s analysis), it’s not mathematically possible that there could be 40% margins on it.

As for the gigacasting, it looks like amazing technology, revolutionary even, but I think it’s a sign of where Tesla see their relationship with the secondary market going in the coming years - they intend to continue steering fully clear of it :)

build it cheaper, but make repairs harder, the latter being someone else’s problem

Do you know how much roughly they paid for it? Is there much left on the Tesla warranty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,373 ✭✭✭✭unkel

    We discussed all this ;-)

If you look back a few pages you will find it, first hint is in the Nov reg, meaning at the same date this Nov, the general warranty is up. But of course it's a garage sale, they will have to stand over the car. My guess is they bought it for around €21k. They might sell for €26k, but that would be a bad buy imho.

150,000km, Fremont, chrome, old battery (and all the other incremental changes) for €28k is absolutely awful value.

you’d be asking for a battery test for starters. They’re listing it as the original 405km range, which it didn’t even do on day 1.

Maybe one is RWD LR and the other is AWD LR. Significant performance differences.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Same applies to anyone buying an older bmw 30e, Passat PHEV etc

Not everybody needs the brand new car.

    iPhone 12 is good. I don’t need a 15 😁

haha the chrome is really annoying!😂

You got the iPhone 15. And the 14 and the 13. But your kids took all of them and handed you their old 12 😂

Good value 2016 Leaf 30kWh, top spec Tekna, 132k km. Silver is by far the best colour on them imho, asking €7700. I'd start with a cheeky but firm €6k and see where that goes. And at that it would be a great buy

And the good thing about this car is that these 30kWh cars came with an 8 year, 160k km battery warranty, so there is a bit of that left for peace of miind

Haha! Thats goes to show how better the deals are when you go private vs garage.

    Another injured one, 321 Toyota BZ4x 32k

    https://www.donedeal.ie/damagedcars-for-sale/toyota-bz4x-sport-electric-231d-driving/35170271

Seems expensive..unless toyota will stand over the warranty on the car and battery.

Be surprised if the boot floor came out well in this altercation. Left rear wing doesn't look salvageable too many complex lines and creases in it. Guts of maybe 5-8 grand repairs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,493 ✭✭✭sk8board

It says it’s driving in the title but the text of the ad says “needs a pull”.

If it needs towing and is a Cat D, the obvious buyer is a garage with a crash repair team, and it’s nigh on impossible to think any garage would give €32k for this.

Has Auction written all over it

Needs a pull, means pulling body work. I.e pulling machine. Probably has chassis damage too.
