The problem, as with a lot of politicians, is that RTE is a business and she's not a businessperson. That means that there's a steep learning curve for any new minister without a business background such as Martin. RTE is also a highly dysfunctional business so she is completely out of her depth. A competent minister would have immediately taken action to stop the whole thing exploding. Tubridy was the tip of the iceberg and now RTE has been holed below the water line. It doesn't matter what Martin does because people will not be happy. Either the RTE management faces "incentivised redundancies" or the government TDs will at the next GE.

If Catherine Martin is afraid of laying down the law and rocking the boat, replace her with someone who will.

There is an important song for the media to think about regarding Tubs and Tubs stories.

It is also worth noting that the singer Chris Andrews who was also the songs writer, wrote and sang the song below which played a larger part in Tubs life at RTE.

I see the puff pieces are still being churned out on a daily basis and lots of mentions of possible jobs - But, but he already has a fantastic 100% genuine offer from Classic hits for €170k pa...

    ...doesn't he?

Slightly off topic but looking at a bit of this Dr Cassidy's casebook stuff on RTE atm...

Jaysus, a lad would be forgiven for thinking the doc may have been snaffled up by a talent management agent of note -

This should be interesting as RTE talks about the elephants in the room.

    It's going to be juicy.

Watching - will be all love for RTE I'm betting

Jaysus - studio audience...all 40 of them and that presenter is awful

If you are one of the families whose cases are mentioned on Dr Cassidy's casebook, you would be disgusted at having it all raked up again to just get TV viewers.

No love for RTE at the moment and Ivan Yates will be digging his boot in shortly.

Katie would be lost without them cards in her hands.

Absolutely! As things are going RTE will be bankrupt before the year's end.

It'll be interesting to see how this show pans out...

No doubt they'll have a 50:50 split, to try and justify the status quo, when the reality is it needs radical surgery and significant reduction :-(

    Thanks,

    G.

I happened to come across one the puff pieces about RT's trip to England, over the weekend on Facebook. Usual cringe, self indulgent shite. But what got me was the love in in the comments for him. I'm amazed so many people have fallen for his fake persona and how they hang on his every word. There really is a large gullible section of society out there.

This episode underlines how atrocious Dee Forbes was as DG.

Done absolutely nothing for 7 years.

Did anyone get the number that flashed up on screen, to send in comments over what app?

    Thanks,

    G.

Katie Hannon pushing rubbish that if RTE goes, it will be replaced by Fox News.

    Complete scaremongering rubbish.

That fella has had his hand up the whole show and had nothing to say lmao

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,749 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

Ivan Yates pointing out that the independent sector is regulated.

The idea of a Fox News coming here is so ludicrous.

That Green TD is waffling saying we had never paid for water before. We did pay for water as some of our taxes was supposed to be ring fenced to pay for our water. It's not our fault that this was not done.

Ellen with a great dig at Tubs.

Wondering aloud why he wasn't snapped up when he became available

Of course there has to be redundancies. Ridiculous conversation.

    RTE is broke!

Why was he even on, could they not get anyone else - talking like he knew all the going on's with Martin - clueless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,727 ✭✭✭skimpydoo

Ivan Yates is talking so much sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,939 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

RTE news (or should I say political programs) has been like Fox news many a time with unresearched reliance on Twitter posts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,727 ✭✭✭skimpydoo

Martin does not want to put her head above the parapet as she would then have to do something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,749 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

And constant misery disguised as public service to get ratings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,939 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Now on to something RTE love - climate change, where is George Lee...

This is a very awkwardly produced show - never watched it before

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭garrettod

I'd say less than 10% of RTE's output is genuine Public Service Broadcasting - so cut the licence fee by 90%. Simple really!

In fact, I'd far rather see the remaining 10% given to TG4, and just get rid of all of RTE, as they do a far better job, with far less money!

    Thanks,

    G.

Taking opinions from a former minister who departed the state for his own bailout doesn't seem to be a wise move for the old RTE. Amazing how folks seem to have short memories about politicians turned media experts!
