Happy to report that Sixt Frankfurt had no problems with my Revolut debit card 😌

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,688 ✭✭✭Jeff2

I wonder if using a Curve card linked to Revolut card would work with that.

    Probably not I guess.

That is because Sixt has a very clear policy giving that they even accept the German EC Card (or better giro card).

There are several European countries where they take vpay or maestro and in most countries they are active they take Visa/Mastercard Debit.

In the US you also need some additonal paperwork but Sixt is very clear that a credit card is not needed but you need to see the counter and there are some limits on the type of car you can get.

Yeah I'll definitely be reporting it to the CCPC. Doubt they'll do anything considering the provider is headquartered in Germany, but at least they'll have it on record

I mean I could probably use my EBS debit card which it sitting around somewhere, but that's not much use since it's never got any money in the account

I can use other charging providers, and I will since I'm not bothered dealing with Volkswagen. A lot of the chargers are installing tap and pay terminals anyway, so it isn't a big issue

But they should accept Revolut. If they're concerned about risk then they should be taking a block on the card when I use the charger

As the other poster suggested, getting a Curve Card and linking it to your Revolut card is probably the easiest fix. No reason why it shouldn't work.

Returned from spain on a tui flight tonight,

They announced over intercom that dont accept cash and dont except revolut either,

They will only except other bank cards that are not prepay cards,

Staff on the flight take your card to check what type of card it is before they process it,

I thought that revolut wouldn't be considered as a prepay card?

It should be the same as any other bank 🤔

Might be no harm to open another free online account like N26 as a backup. It's all well and good complaining here and to Joe that Revolut should be treated equally but that's no good on the spot like on that flight.

Also pedantic note, how did you go from saying "accept" first time out and "except" for the rest of the post?

    This too shall pass.

I wonder was that due to Revoluts standing order issue? (end of June?)

I got caught out with that myself

Ive noticed my revolut card just not working at certain places (person on till just telling me the card is not working) and ATMs (message on screen: "we temporarily cant complete this transaction") recently and you get no notification in the app to tell you why like you used to so you could fix it and retry. This makes me think revolut is just being refused. Nearly got caught a few times for diesel and not somewhere close to home so it would have been a handling. So now I make sure to carry a 2nd bank card everywhere.

Try Albert Heijn supermarkets in Amsterdam there are a few of them only except Maestro or Vpay. So no n26, aib visa, ebs, revolut OR cash.

I think they accept Mastercard & Visa now.

Was said to me months ago on a Ryanair flight that it might not work. Was told the workaround is to just add it to Google/Apple Pay

Good idea. Could get out of a spot with that if ever caught somewhere with just revolut card and its not being accepted.

I don't think so because they're charging my card and not via direct debit or standing order

I'm after getting a quote from Revolut for car insurance and I'm shocked how dear it is. Currently paying €351 with 123.ie who're RSA. Whereas Revolut/AIG are after quoting €731! That includes a 10% Metal plan discount too. Shocking stuff

The Revolut flight thing might be down to loads of declined transactions on people's revoluts due to insufficient funds. I know on the way back from Germany I tapped by card but it wasn't debited until the next day. Seems like people are tapping then TXs being declined next day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,983 ✭✭✭bren2001

That's true for any card tho. That's how payment on an airline works. They upload the transactions at the end of the flight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Without being facetious, there’s definitely a reason for it. Airlines certainly don’t make up rules that curtail their sales for no reason.

Now I can’t tell you what it is, but I suspect it’s down to the reasons some have said here (frequency of failed/declined transactions).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,657 ✭✭✭Qrt

I'm aware, but people tend to have much smaller balances with Revolut, making a decline due to insufficient funds much more probable. There was something here (I think) about some petrol pumps doing the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,983 ✭✭✭bren2001

It's a logical guess. However, the Ryanair flight i was on a few months back, the Attendant indicated that Revolut was rejected by the terminal randomly and to add it to Google Pay in future. My TSB card worked. I think there is something else up.

Revolut didn't work for the women beside me either but did for the final third person in my row.

Using it as my main bank since last November with salary going directly into it and yet to have a decline that's not related to contact less limit being reached in the air or in store. I don't know why its worth the conversation as it's always prudent to have an alternative payment method regardless of the provider.

Maybe people are more likely to only have a couple of Euro in their Revoluts and airlines are noticing a pattern of declined payments? Though it happened to me with a business credit card a while ago, the terminal coded the payment for my coffee as duty free which my company blocks. When I figured it out I emailed the provider trying to pay but never got a response, so they didn't care much then.

Signed up for experiments in the app a while ago. Just got notification that it's available now. They completly changed the UI. Vaults also seem to be called Pockets now and crypto and investing have their own tabs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,108 ✭✭✭jeffk

Yeah I did the same (email and app notification as well)

Her non technical self isn't looking forward to using it

Say be a few like her at the start

Based on their customer service I said I'd leave it to you guys to find their bugs for them, no thanks 😁

Pockets is a different product to Vaults, no?

A UI change is needed, the current one is absolutely garbage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,832 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Well in total wealth it is still called vaults but in the top where you can change currency it is down as a pocket. There is add new option where vault is now grouped under pockets

Is pockets not for paying recurring subscriptions from? I've one that I fund monthly and my Netflix, YouTube etc subscriptions all come from that.

Was over getting my shopping and card wouldn't work. It said no chip detected. This has happened a few times lately. It's very annoying. I can tap allright most of the time but sometimes that declines as well. I must stop talking about getting a new card and just get one.
