I heard someone on Drivetime telling us Ryan needs to work for a living like the rest of us as his daily living expenses would be mounting up. If Ryan, with the amount of earnings he’s enjoyed for years, hasn’t been able to make very good provision for the rainy day, well heck the rest of us we’d jump off a cliff.

Wondered the same myself, he was scathing the morning after the PAC appearance and from then on , he was in Tubridy’s corner 🧐

I think Sarah McInerney is good. She’s not in NK’s stable and was passed over for Claire Byrne for the mid morning slot. Unfairly, IMO

Its mad to think that one problem has been resolved but that one problem spawned a myriad of other problems for RTE which will take years to sort out (license revenues, board/exec governance failures, dodgy redundancy investigation, required management clearout, reputational damage, further Oireachtas probes, illegal accounting practices, potential legal cases, staff morale issues etc etc).

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

No doubt he has his own bog in the whesshhtt of Oireland. Maybe he can give that money back too along with the 150k he didn’t earn

The trouble with Tubs resurrecting himself via podcast or documentary now is that he’s heading into the wrong season for that. The darkness of autumn and winter is nigh, would mean filming opportunities more limited. Some touristy outdoor places on short hours or closed. Light limited leading to poorer production values. However he could always do a Hygga shtick of winter cosiness in libraries, bookstores, old houses, museums etc.

    Yeah, what's up with Fionnanahanananan?

I heard him today and he was..." beep, beep, beep, this vehicle is reversing".

If you look and sound “slick” “prepared” and “soundbitey”- then you’re probably as far away from sincerity as you can be.

She's a good journalist. That's what makes her unusual in RTE.

Do lots of people really listen to podcasts though?

I have tried a few, and have yet to find one I kept going back to. Maybe they just aren't for me?

If someone thinks Tub could make a living out of his own podcast, I'd have to disagree.

Tubridy is the fool of all fools, he doesn’t work out the potential consequences

What makes podcasts so attractive to advertisers is that the people listening to podcasts have to actively select and listen to them. They aren't broadcasting as much as narrowcasting in that they each have very specific audiences. Tubridy's audience figures depended on the background noise effect of a radio being on in the background rather than people tuning in to specifically listen to him. I'm not sure that a Tubridy podcast would work because his target demographics aren't exactly podcast listeners. His name might get a few advertisers and listeners but whether he could hold on to them would be a completely different question. And the narrowcast nature of podcasts means that they would have a far smaller audience than Tubridy's old RTE programme. Would people waste time listing to the wibbling of Tubridy on a podcast? It would probably be like rechewing a years old piece of bubblegum found under a desk.

    Regards...jmcc

an FOI would be interesting on the Rte radio player regarding numbers of people downloading and streaming individual Rte radio shows “listening back” so to speak…

He should collaborate with Harry and Meaghan - now THATS an idea- “Former ROI TV host collaborates with UK Royal(ishes) to create a United Ireland😀

Yeah, if Tubs wants or is afforded a return it has to come from a broadcaster.

Newstalk could try him out between Lunchtime and Moncreiff, taking 30mins of each show.

VMTV could give him a late night chat show Monday to Thursday after the Tonight Show.

Both would be looking for him into help increase the audience share of their other programmes, if he's unable he'll be gone fairly quickly.

However, I can't see Newstalk doing that but I could be wrong about them, and VMTV just aren't in the business of making TV.

Perhaps move to the UK and find a smaller broadcaster to work with?

To be honest, the ‘be kind’ persona always come across as fake, no matter who adopts it.

I would guess that a sizeable proportion of Tubridys audience have never listened to a podcast.

I am delighted that he has been shown the door, he is a smug smarmy looking creepy sort, I have not watched a late late in his tenure bar dipping in to bits of the toy show, which he wrecked for me, there is just something that feels really off about him.

RTÉ still needs a serious amount of reform, one step in the right direction but an awful lot more to do.

Big challenge here is that beyond TLLS it’s somewhat un-chartered waters for the presenters:

Byrne essentially retired, then did his Lyric Sunday show and TV projects like Meaning of Life and LLS look back thingy

Kenny ultimately left after putting in the years and time and got a commercial radio deal without fuss and was very happy thanks very much by all accounts (except for his legal actions against neighbours 🤪)

Tubridy? Firstly he’s a lot younger than Byrne and Kenny when they jumped the RTÉ mothership. I reckon he’s going to take a year off, possibly get out of Ireland - maybe Australia even or New Zealand-

I don’t see him sticking around in the short term- he’s definitely hurting - likely because he thought, the public actually believed, what he believed, the public believed (stick with it, the sentence makes sense) - as it happens, the public were just going along with his brand of “meh” because that’s what the public do - just ask The Jam - they’ve predicted all this 40 years ago- the public wants what the public gets

I know a handful of avid fans who unfortunately ARE podcast listeners, listen to many podcasts of their gurus.

This photo sums up so much about him. Childish, vacuous, what he thought was the zenith of his career. He seems to be revelling in the attention, in the photo.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

Just looking at the latest update on the Rte 9 O’clock news. Some man who is from independent broadcaster shinawill on it stating people were refusing to pay “Willy nilly” and “nothing was been done about it”. People l know have refused to pay as a token of their anger . It’s not “Willy nilly” also what does he “want done”??? Maybe squads of armed gardai breaking down doors and hauling the non payers off to the cells?? These lndependents and rte have been too long on the gravy train….they see it’s running out of fuel and they don’t like the idea that they may have to get off and walk the rest of the way…tough

No matter how good PK is on the LLS,I don’t think he should be offered a radio show. Broadcasting jobs are few and far between in Ireland and I think they should be spread amongst as many as possible rather than concentrated amongst a few ridiculously highly paid few. Better to spread opportunities around. Two people on 100k is better than one on 200k. We also don’t want to create another monster ego.

In that photo there is a little child on the Toy Show, but you can tell he thinks it's all about him.

"Photograph me, for I am the Toy Man".
