WFH in Public/Civil Service

Hi guys, I've been applying for different jobs on the public jobs site and just wondering if WFH has been finalised the PS/CS? If so, does anyone know which departments or areas offer more WFH than others? I'm currently one day a week in the office in the private sector and want to aim for jobs that are 2 days in office at most. Thanks.

Depends, some people in my building do one day in the office, four at home or the opposite, or two days at home three in office. It isnt standard across the board.

There is a very good existing thread covering a lot of areas in public and civil service. I'm public sector - everyone is min 2 days in the office. Noone does anymore.

Is it necessary for your type of work or just a random rule?

I work in the CS and due to the nature of the work, it's 4 days in office, 1 day out. Completely paper based applications, and to get the one day requires a ridiculous amount of work in terms of scaning etc.

These are the type of civil service places to avoid imo.

Two civil service bodies on the campus I work in.

One of them has a very flexible wfh policy, 2 days in the office, but it's not strictly enforced.

The other has a strict 5 days a week in the office, no exceptions.

So it depends, you can get lucky or unlucky

My office has 1 day WFH. My job and the other office in town require 5 days in the office. There's no Flexi if WFH so it suits me. Being only 8 minutes from work makes it worthwhile coming in anyway.

Unfortunately we don't get to choose the departments we're put into in open competitions, and I just wanted to get my food in the door. Needless to say I'm already on mobility and moving up the places even if I have 20 more months until I'm eligible lol

4 Days in and 1 day remote in my area of public sector. It's a Council and some departments have 2 days, but they usually are service departments with no public counter or direct engagement with the public.

I’m in the public sector myself for years. Have an issue there at the moment that I’m trying to get resolved but if I’m honest I think my chances are slim Hr don’t care about staff at all & even though it’s a secure job & flexible it has its negatives too. Thinking now I might do a course & maybe at some stage in the future take a career break & get out of there for a while.. life is too short to be unhappy
