    100% agree.

I was too shortsighted to only think of RT.

RTE should have their accounts scrutinised annually and any ‘dodgy’ interactions should mean someone has to answer the hard questions in a public environment.

Absolutely it’s an institutional problem and unfortunately for them, and us, RT is the face of it.

Is it too much to ask that there is complete transparency when tax payers are paying the bill ?

You can find PAC meetings from 3-4 years ago with RTE in the room. It was about wayward spending. Spending outside of the procurement guidelines. People just going off and buying stuff with RTE money and nobody had any idea what it was.

The RTE team, including Dee, sat in front of everyone and told them they had it all sorted. Don't worry we are the new guys and we will stop all that sh*t that the old ones used to get up to. Sound familiar?

The place is rotten and it seems their guidelines etc are only publish to try keep people off their backs. None of them are adhered to.

Why wouldn't Tubs look to screw everyone over when he is probably aware of what the rest of RTE is up to? how could Geraldine or any of them go into negotiations with Tubs telling him they have no money and have to take a pay cut while he is watching them out on the freebies all the time, hiring buses because they can't walk a few hundred metres. If I was sitting in Tubs seat I would tell them to f**k off as well and pay me the proper money.

Of course Noel Kelly if he is a good agent should have all the information on the freebie gigs that RTE get up to and walk into each meeting with a list of them while RTE tell him that all his employees need to take a pay cut......

Clean out from top to bottom. That woman with her shaky voice and throwing out a few words of Irish should be fired on the spot for total incompetence. Then all the rest of them. The "talent" should be cut free and let them off to other channels. OR they can come back on similar wages to what they are actually worth, not what RTE and Noel Kelly have dreamt up.

The procurement system, maybe they should just outsource it because RTE seemingly have no control over it. Hand it over to someone else and see how far they get on reducing the over spending on rubbish.

Strict guidelines(like everyone else had) on corporate entertainment. None of this Geraldine and the hubbie nonsense. If a customer wants to bring their husband/wife that is their choice. That should not automatically mean the RTE employee has to bring their partner. No other company would do that, and if the partner wants to come then they pay for their expenses.

2FM, finally put the last nail in that coffin. Plus none of the staff kept on to sit in the canteen in RTE. I know some decent people but unfortunately for them the majority are Lottie etc so the good get dragged down with the useless.

Start with all of that, then come back and see about the license fee

There has been some amount of scandals in the last 30 years in Ireland. Just my time on the planet.

Im sure it’s been going on for longer.

It would make some length of a list and probably deserves its own thread.

It’s such a shame that the people allow it to happen.

I see the noel Kelly divas now complaining that they were getting unfair treatment in comparison to marty. So marty still represents the patriarchy even though many of those divas earning more than him

Exactly as I said yesterday. Govt and especially Minister Martin under pressure to publish the annual report. The delay now looks suspicious. The amount of investigations within RTE now is significant. I'd forgotten about the redundancy package one. Red rotten.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Even RTE wouldn't be dumb enough to bring back Tubridy while huge issues surround him such his unwillingness to hand back the 150k wrongly given to him, compensation to RTE for funding bogus Renault gigs and all the other costs asaociated with his off the books payments.

But issues in RTE also go beyond Tubridy, eg the many unpublished reports, commercial activities of other presenters, dubious redundancy schemes that don't bring in savings, etc etc.

It was mentioned on the RTE news last night that the government ministers from PAC had been asking questions why RTE had provided none of the information promised. Well I think that was the discussed, I was half listening and RTE news hardly the unbiased reporting

It was TD Dillon I believe who was following up on questions he & other public reps asked of RTE at the various hearings. Many of the public watched or followed the highlights of those hearings - just because it's summer holiday season doesn't mean that we've forgotten. The public are awaiting clear detailed answers and action before committing to pay TV licences.

Full marks for picking up typo and your response highlights why the TV licence is no longer fit for purpose

There is a fee for repeats or repeat showings/broadcasts of radio, tv, and film. These are known as "residuals" and in most markets extend beyond the "stars" to production staff, writers, etc.

These vary hugely by role and show and audience etc. For example, the stars of Friends are believd to make approx. $20million EACH for Friends re-reruns globally every year. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld are reported to recieve between $40 and $60million each per year for Seinfeld re-runs - even though the show wouldn't be as popular as Friends both would have writing and production credits too, and they get paid for those. The current writer strike in Hollywood is over many issues, but key amongst them is residuals on streaming services and how they're calculated.

Now I'd assume RTE are paying peanuts for repeats - and certainly by the above figures they would be. But this is RTE so who knows.........they have shown themselves to be incredibly extravagant at times.

That said, Mrs. Bronwn's Boys and Killinaskully are show so often I'd say that based on frequency alone anyone who worked on them is doing ok residuals wise.

I have a feeling RTE thought they would get some stick, the summer hols are coming up. The TD's will head off to the holidays and come back more interested in something else.

Sure don't we have posters on boards telling us all the time this thread is dying.

Problem is this is still a bit topic in the public. RTE kept saying they would send in XYZ, the TD is right to follow up on them. As we seen I think a few TD's just wanted to get a few snippets for social media and then feck off on hols with no intention to follow up

Marty has also been in RTE far longer than either Lottie and Jen, combined. He's been working with RTE for over 30 years. Jen has been with RTE for less than 15 years, as has Lottie.

But they fail to grasp one guy had a free car paid for by a car manufacturer, another guy got 'questionable' bonus payments that were undeclared, and came at the cost of basic facilities in RTe. Remote controls for TV's being one such luxury staff were denied. (Wouldn't surprise me if staff were told to bring their own toilet paper.).

They really are out of touch with the average joe and josephine soap on the street, aren't they?

BBC Radio 2 loses 1,000,000 listeners since Ken Bruce exit | Metro News

I see that BBC Radio 2 has lost around a million listeners in the latest Rajar listenership survey over there.

C'mon Noel!!! Show the Brits what your boy can do. Get him in there to recover the lost million listeners. Shouldn't be a problem if he's as good as you and Ryan think he is.

Either way it has nothing to do with Ariel or Aerial, it is to do with the receiving equipment. E.g. if you have an old TV you are not using or an old VCR or a PVR or a DigiBox etc you should be paying the Licence fee.

Again if you feel pressured into paying hold off until you think is reasonable, don't renew straight away, at the very least.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Just waiting for RTE to brand public criticism of it a product of "Far Right disinformation".

    Calling it now.

The nothingburger is what RTE feels looking at its revenue as a result of this.

It's becoming a double nothing burger (do you want to go large, Kevin?)

Exactly and also gay Byrne was like a god to alot of women, they adored him, that's why some of their husbands hated him. The last thing he needed to do was to get all creapy with a very immature sinead o Connor. I think he only really admitted to having a thing for merry streep anyway

You’d have to assume it’s an official partnership given it’s on the RTÉ Twitter account and not a solo run.

How much bigger can this nothing burger get?
