Agreed, there are ways, the best being all Tesla SuC occupiers having real world SOC goal enabled, I'd do that to serve Tesla community better.

They won't be able to integrate with non-Teslas though on SuC open for all.....

Just have it in beta (like everything else) and base off charge limit in car and speed. So if you're drawing below say 30-40kW then you're good to charge beside, if you're drawing 140kW and have a limit set of 90% then youre one to avoid if possible.

But if you are using the car to route plan and in a very long trip the car will provide advice on what state of charge to move on so it should have a good idea in many cases when the driver is likely to leave again. It would not be a perfect system but it should tell you what stall is non sharing and suggest that first, followed by the best guess sharing stall.

First time in over 2 years of ownership I've had to queue for an SuC.

Sandyford right now. In fairness it was only about 6 minutes!!

Heard earlier today in work that the castlebellingham superchargers were due to be moved earlier this year... They obviously haven't been moved but are/were there plans to at some point?

There was talk they were to be kicked out of existing site by applegreen as applegreen wanted a monopoly on EV charging. Maybe they renegotiated or maybe their existing contract is not up yet. Esb removed or turned off their old charger at coynes cross due to applegreen putting in their own brand charges there.

There was talk of a north Dublin city/M50 site and a few dots I think around castlebellingham area. Who knows, those that do know probably can't say.

Grid connection costs, grid upgrade delays (of up to a year) and other concerns may have made Tesla reconsider, possibly agreeing the chargers would stay Tesla only...). Motorway sites are very convenient even if the food options are limited and expensive for what they are.

Was at Mahon Superchargers Cork last Thurs 29th June. Took on about 40kWh, but noticed no invoice generated or no debit from my account.

Thought this would normally be instant (If my memory serves me right).

    Anyone else there that day?

Took a few hours to appear after using Birdhill SC the other day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

I believe it can be delays with payment provider.

ESB didnt remove or turn off, they were made do so apparently. I suspect the lease will not be renewed when it is up at the castlebellingham sites. And to be honest, if you actually need anything other than a quick coffee and pee break, that's not a bad thing. The quality of the food and toilet areas there leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,873 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Birdhill is worse, a kip the way they keep those toilets

Yeah, motorway services in Ireland are absolute sh1tholes...

I always thought I'd be against having Superchargers located in non motorway services, but having used Enfield a few times, as well as Athenry and recently Mahon Point, I am 100% for the deployment of SuC's in non motorway sites...

I then wouldn't ever miss wading through the rivers of pi$$ in Castlebellingham trying to get to the toilet cubicle... In fairness though I only ever stopped there when I had free Supercharging... as I only live about 25%-30% away from there, so would hardly ever need it in an emergency...

COynes cross is pretty ok now that they have the M&S food. Gorey is ok too. But castlebellingham and Athlone Ionity are awful.

I dont like having chargers at a hotel either, you feel like you're a criminal trying to sneak in for a pee! (Maybe that's due to my hobo chic fashion sense though)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,424 ✭✭✭MightyMunster

Issue with hotels , from my limited experience in Athenry, or Mahon Point is that the car is ready quicker than you can get food/drink.

    Much nicer experience though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,761 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Yes. We're afternoon tea type of people so wouldnt mind say a 50kW supercharger there too (or the 70kW urban SuC) so we could go to the hotel for 1.5 hours and relax. Or go to the normal SuC if a fast topup is needed.

Its an interesting one. Fast charging needs to get quicker, but there should be slower options available concurrently to suit demand.

Hotels are not so good early morning or late at night when the place is shut. You need to try and guess where the cameras are when you need a 'rest stop'.

Never been to Castlebellingham but never had an issue with J14, Tip Town plaza or Birdhill... Are they the better ones perhaps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,384 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

I was only ever in J14 once, no twice, just after the super hub was opened... and it was certainly one of the nicer services I've been to...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,034 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

I used to regularly stop there once, or maybe twice, a week, never had an issue. The services at Castlebelingham could just be the problem

Q3 voting now open, only Lucan available for Ireland.

    https://www.tesla.com/supercharger-voting

If anyone would like to back a winner, Thessaloniki is a decent bet 🙂

Good news for anyone driving to the UK via Holyhead, is that Bangor won the Q2 round of voting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,384 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

And if anyone has any spare votes, give them to Klaipeda and/or Vilnius in Lithuania

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭innrain

On my page there was a location from Poland. I checked few days ago and locations from Poland and Hungary formed all top 10. Ours was deep down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,384 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

A Polish site was the winner too in the last round of voting.....

    They get out and vote.

and in fairness I've noticed fairly big expansion in Poland over the last year or so...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,602 ✭✭✭✭josip

I also didn't think Bangor figured highly in the overall, but I think it was the highest British one.

If you go the regular SuC map (not the voting one) you can see Bangor in there as a Q2 2023 winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,034 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

I recommend that you only give the extra votes to those sites lower than Lucan as voting for one ahead kinda negates your vote

St. Paul wrote that we should consider the Thessalonians as our brothers 🙂

Nah, I'm 100% for Klaipeda in Lithuania.. having been there in my own Tesla, the area is very short on charging options and during the summer the whole 80km or so of Lithuanian coastline becomes the 'Tesla Coast'... We have a house now 30 minutes up the coast from Klaipeda, and we've solar panels (though yet to be connected and turned on), so if we ever drive back there*, I probably wouldn't even need to use a SuC so close by.. but having spent a lot of time there recently and into the future, I know it's badly needed.. So it gets my vote..

I'm sure it's the same for a lot of the sites in Poland and Hungary with all the high votes, probably with loads of owners either from there, or living abroad who want to see more SuC's where they go every summer...

*We'll most definitely be driving back over there... just not like before when we did it all within a 3 week period, spending 5-6 days on ships and motorways just getting to/from there.. When we drive again I want to go for at least 6-8 weeks.. the full summer, and longer again when junior is in secondary school! we're both home based anyway so why the feck not.. car rental is expensive, so just deal with the 2-3 days driving there and back, and then have free solar powered motoring while there for the summer... SuC's make the drive effortless, and more in Poland improves options for getting there quicker, so I think I've still 1 vote left so need to look at the map again!!

Ireland will get what it gets.... fcuk all..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,034 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Well obviously if there's other sites that suit you then yeah vote for them. If there isn't then voting for locations further down the list improves Lucans chances

Bit of a pointless exercise as Tesla will do whatever suits them regardless of these results

We are literally being asked by Tesla to compete against each other for locations

Did he not mean the Tesla-onians? 😁
