I think a big part of the 47k is barter account costs.

It seems to be a very expensive way to transfer funds.

I reallllly hope someone goes to prison for this.. it's 100% corruption/deceit.. "consultants fee's"...

For the amount of money Tubs gets from rte every year, its nothing compared to what that Lottie Ryan gets.

At least Tubs has (had) 5 x 1hr radio shows and was doing a 2.5hr tv show.

Lottie Ryan reads out celeb gossip and little else. Any wonder her agent has to invent non-stories and feed them to the media to try to keep her relevant.

If there was any justice, the media outlets would stop running these crap stories about her life, but I suppose its cheap filler content for them.

Anybody else cancel their TV licence payment in protest?

Id say there’s a good few staff in RTÉ in the same boat as you.

Given how bad some opinion polls have been before elections recently, you'd wonder are the jnlr's equally flawed.

Myself or nobody I know has ever asked to these polls. Can't see many younger people getting involved either, they'd scoff at pen and paper 😄

I’ve had a good few reminder letters. I might just wait and see if the court one arrives and take it from there

At an event hosted by Ryan Tubridy for Renault and paid for by RTÉ, guests enjoyed cocktails, access to a bar and a selection of canapés. It was one of three events that cost RTÉ more than €47,000 in total.

This is what we are paying for 😡

Correction: an expensive way to hide funds payments and transfers.

I have heard it said that the weekend numbers are unreliable because the sample size is about a third of what it is for the weekday sample.

Doesn't stop RTE paying Brendan O'Connor about 240,000 Euros on listenership figures which may or may not be right!

It is deceit to the public, RTE staff etc. But it is entirely legal. In the Oireachtas Media committee there was not one definitive mention of 'illegality'. No one will go to prison.

Plus I suspect many of those in the RTE exec positions will move on to exec positions in less high profile companies, even if they are moved on.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Nobody will work with him. RT will not be back on RTE.

The consultancy fees issue seems to be considered fraudulent and was said at the committee yesterday.

Don’t think the whole “it’s all legal” will get them out of this one.

Expect to see some large UK or US networks pouncing soon, with huge financial offers to try to lure Tubs...

LOL, all passing the buck 🤣🤣🤣.

Having said that, it's very easy and convenient to blame someone who is not around to contradict them. Not saying for one second that she is blameless here as she was the DG with responsibilites of CEO, chief editor and board member. She should have been all over anything that happened both operationally and at board level and immediatley rectified anything that was, or appeared to be, less than squeaky clean.

The board playing dumb yesterday and saying they didn't know xyz is tough t***y because that is their job.

OTOH, there are lots of people who take on directorships and/or board memberships (eg charities spring to mind) and don't acquaint themselves about the legal responsibilities they are taking on and the penalties that can result from non-compliance.

I would have expected that the board and directors in publicly funded organisations would be extra careful and circumspect so it's very difficult to see how these 'errors' could happen in RTE. At the very least, the public has a right to expect that those board members and directors have a full understanding of their legal responsibilities and ensure proper controls are in place.

Absolutly no excuse for the CFO though, he knows full well what his responsibilites as a financial controller are.

All you need to know is that they are both well renumerated clients of NKM!!!

Apart from that Lottie is the daughter of the late Gerry Ryan who does a gossip column input on a range of 2fm programs(and according to a recent PR blurb probably released by NKM is in something of a dilemma re her recent marriage as to whether assume her husbands name thereby forfeiting the nepotistic advantages that the Ryan name just happened to bring her in launching a career in RTE!) .

Brendan O'Connor is a Sunday independent journalist who took over Marian Finucane's weekend radio slot after her death and also did a Saturday eve TV program after getting his start on a program called Don't feed the Gondolas back in the early naughties. Among thr notable achievements qualifying him to to be a chat show host is his editorship of the Sunday Indo magazine which reduced it to a vacuous mess of pictures of models and X lister gossip and soft focus interviews interspersed with aspirational lifestyle articles. That and him being the parent of a special needs child which apparently bestows on him an empathic capability not common to most high profile and high value (insert ego) media stars.

I wonder if the cheques or equivalent were pre signed before the details were written in . Remember Birtie - back in the day - used to pre sign blank cheques and give the book to Charlie for shirt , etc , buying. Those were the days- wonder did they ever go away.?

Well if it was actually fraudulent which implies illegality, it would result in prosecutions, I sincerely doubt there will be prosecutions. Now I know it is a lot of people's wet dreams (on this thread) is to see Tubridy in the Joy and Philly McMahon trying to rehabilitate him into society by trying to teach him Gaelic Football.

But it is not going to happen. The main wrongs in this is lack of RTE governance, a hyper powered super agent which RTE depend/depended on, and RTE frivolity with taxpayer money.

I believe after this there should be legislation brought in whereby it is impossible for one agent to dominate a state run media body, and a more sensible cap on wages of said bodies etc.

It would result in freshness and vibrancy over time in RTE. But they have a long way to get to that point.

I can't see an NDA being signed though. After all it's public money and potentially fraudulent activity. When it comes to public interest and NDA wouldn't be worth the paper it is signed on.

    Just a thought.

All the while we have delays in rolling out the hot meals for disadvantaged children in schools. I'd imagine 47K would feed a lot of kids. Utterly delusional and contemptuous carry on.

That's what happens to our money lads. That why services are in such ****. This kind of carry on.

I'm not sure, I know it was being discussed but that was in a different room in the house and I wasn't there at the time. The only person who might know about all the discussions and options presented and debated would probably be Google - I've always suspected they listen to everything because the fridge knows when we need milk. But it's not a decision I had any hand, act or part in.

I feel sorry for the many people at RTE who do great work for a relative pittance but I couldn't be happier about the fall from grace of the King of Kindness, Ryan Tubridy.

Fake sincerity, fake empathy, fake interviewer. Being employed far above his abilities is one thing if he came from a position of good intentions but he's debased the institution that was the LLS for years, turning it into a low rent spectacle, primarily designed to line his own pockets thru advertising deals. He's been as transparent as a pane of clear glass to me for the nigh on 20 years he's been turning my stomach on Irish media and barring some kind of miracle, it looks like we should be rid of him now. If nothing else comes of this, and I doubt much will, then that's something.
