Yep, that occurred to me to. Couldn't exactly be described as entirely impartial in the whole debate considering his own representation by NKM and then coincidentally failing to be upfront about it until someone else points it out.

It may eventually come to pass that an association with NKM comes to mean that your reputation and opinion (and star attraction) is dirt rather than the lucrative goldmine it appeared to be up to now

Then why is there no affect on the ratings when these star presenters go on holidays or leave the station?

I was at a ‘refresher course for board members, CEOs’, and senior executive staff re good governance, division between board staff responsibilities , etc, etc and the one that was made very clear and is still ringing in my ears Was the following :- ‘let there be no SURPRISES ‘ especially between board chairperson and the CEO. An extremely basic principal but a very important one . If RTE had it as part of its governance policy we would not be where we are today and a lot of time and money would have been saved

    1.30 again.

I don't know why they can't start at 10 am.

The PAC has another session starting at 09:30 dealing with the Irish Horse Racing Regulatory Board. The RTE session starts at 13:30. You can even watch it live on the Dail website.

    Regard...jmcc

They have been doing that since March this year, still can't string them together to sound coherent as we seen yesterday

I'm not entirely convinced I believe all the "I didn't know" claims. D4 is being painted as some kind of all-seeing villain, like a malevolent Wizard of Oz so others can try to get off the hook they jumped onto themselves.

    Main point from this article

"while 2FM’s has gone from 5.7 per cent to 5.8 per cent"

F**k me with the amount of money poured into the black hole that is 2FM that is a tiny return. It should be shut down now.

Just so much of a hashed cover up at play here. Imagine accepting the resignation of the Dee Forbes knowing that all of this was coming down the line. Then not notifying the Minister of the resignation. Amazing. The entire boards position is untenable. If they won't regin they will have to be pushed. The longer this goes on the more chance the damge is fatal. To think they tried to salvage RT yesterday and with various statements during the week. What hold does he have over them exactly is what I'd like to know.

Why didn't RTE force his hand during negotiations? RTE should be the ones naming what they will pay. In a non existent market like Ireland a "star" like RT should never be naming his fee.

At the very least RTE should have told NKM that they would pay him what he was looking for but it would all be above board and published so his colleagues know that while they are taking paycuts Ryan refused.

I'd expect nothing less than the entire board resigning at the PAC today.

A steer to your query is very simple. The payment is made by that department that was paying 10 ex RTE employees for over a yer

ar before it found out the error. It just has not got around yet to calculate the final payment due to RT - takes about a year to find out that he has been overpaid!!!!!!!!!!

Dee fell on the sword for the rest of them, this seems to have been decided long time ago. probably around March when Tubs decided he wouldn't be the fallguy.

In return Dee gets to walk out with pension etc and isn't hurt financially. She just waits 12-15 months and then comes out with a book telling the "real story" and makes a fortune off that. Everyone walks away happy and RTE don't have to answer any real questions

I only saw clips on the news and I thought they came across as such an unimpressive bunch.

Not saying the TDs were very impressive either according to what I read here. But it's no wonder Noel Kelly ran rings around that lot for so long. The CFO - I didn't know, I wasn't there... Bart Simpson, move over.

I hope that this debacle does result in proper and long overdue reform.

The CFO won’t be getting headhunted by anyone any time soon after yesterday’s performance anyway.

I had a good luck at the Jml figures a few of the RTE presents have over 300 thousand listeners and morning Ireland has over 400 hundred thousand, no other station is touching them. I'd have thought Newstalk 106 would have been doing much better.

Gets the older at home audience I presume .

Can't fathom anybody listening to 2FM though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭ZookeeperDub

TO be fair he looks at an age that sitting around RTE for a few years and then into retirement is his plan

I remember a lady who was working with us, she ended up taking a job like that...why you might ask? well she would then get a government retirement bundle, no idea how long she would have to stay or what it was but she was getting out of private companies to get this. Word was reduction in wages as well but over the term would be better

Dont shoot me down on this, it was all whispers so could be wrong

That was some car crash performance yesterday by RTE officials. I think it raised more questions than answers and details around the Dee Forbes resignation just stink of a cover up. I think the only one who may have saved a shred of creditability was the Risk person where when she was notified of the issue by Deliote that she then got Grant Thornton in to look at this. Probably the one proper act in this whole shambles.

If that is the case why are there so few actual proper ads on his show?

Usually ads for others shows, NCH with the RTE orchestra and some paid for by the government of Ireland type. Very little else imo.

It's a shame Pearse Doherty is not on the PAC. I doubt he would put up with the rubbish given by the RTE officials yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,815 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    He is a spoofer himself.

Bankrupt and skipped the country to avoid paying money back,.said he would step back from media career...he hasn't...as also pointed out he is also with NK lol

Re , for example the LL show drawing in lucrative finance because of RT personality , ‘his talent’, skills, the whole LLShow is much, MUCH bigger than RT. What about all the administrators, researchers, support staff, green room staff, studio provision, supply of equipment and services, etc, etc That’s what makes up the LL Show. RT just happens to be the front man. I forgot to mention the front man in the CLAPPER department which I had experienced once. For those out there that were never at the LL or equivalent , there is always a person DISCRETELY placed around the front of the audience who tells the audance WHEN TO CLAP. Spontaneity how are you?

Also, it did occur to me while listening to this argument advanced by Joe yet again, if the advertising revenue generation is so lucrative for such shows, then why was Dee Forbes constantly doing the poor mouth re the TV licence looking for more revenue instead of utilising this supposed windfall for funding broadcasting, instead of supplementing the fees/salaries of the stars? This long advanced argument of stars justifying their fees on revenue generation/audience draw strike me as an argument straight out of the NKM PR playbook.

    That's exactly it.

That line was fed to us for years. Oh but, the ads, the revenue - Tubridy, Darcy, Duffy and all the rest of the 'TALENT' 🙄 bring in. That's why they must be paid in salaries that must be like winning the lotto. Absolute nonsense.

Oh and btw, give us more money so we can pay them what they demand. 😡

    Not according to this.

But I think in the committee yesterday they had other people who joined to ask questions (could be wrong).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 802 ✭✭✭feelings

Wait, the entire board is not resigning??? You. are. joking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭pjordan

That is a very valid point and warrants monitoring. Could it be perhaps that RTE in association with NKM have so inflated the reputation and advertising rate cards for such shows as to make them prohibitively uneconomical to many commercial advertisers, and so the commercial breaks have instead to be filled with inter program RTE promos, state agency advertising (an apparently bottomless pit of funding!), public service notices and product placement mentions.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,604 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    This doesn't really make sense.

On the one hand, you criticise the board for letting Forbes resign before all the facts have been established.

On the other hand, you expect all the board to resign today, before all the facts have been established?

Virgin have said RTE have set the barrier so low that its hard for them to make proper money

The problem with RTE is nobody wants to advertise on it, not the price
