NK and Tubridy getting an invite along with Dee when she is better!

    PAC tomorrow!

Presumably the contract was structured in a way to keep the TV and radio portions separate, and the plan was to just keep the radio portion going until re-negotiations had concluded.

I dont know who came up with the false invoicing scam... it takes two to tango. But it seems to have been a plot to pay out the guaranteed contract and concealing it.

Tubridys contract was nothing to do with consulting services.

No #1 is incorrect. They are deliberately being vague but that last exchange leads me to believe he does 100% have a current contract for radio work.

They dont want to get into that detail as next question is how much we the irish taxpayer have to pay to get rid of tubridy.

He'll be at home with a plate of Jamie Dodgers, washing them down with lashings of ginger beer, not giving a flying fcuk what bad eggs are slating him,

Getting paid for doing less than usual, Only thing he's missing is a 99 from teddy's

Or he could be home with coke and hookers,

    My money's on the latter

So the media committee intend to call Noel Kelly and Ryan Tubridy and Dee Forbes(when her “illness” passes).

Cut to "you had to register your septic tank"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,087 ✭✭✭Theboinkmaster

if he didn't have a current radio contract he'd be suspended with no pay. If he's being paid right now it means he's got a contract.

  • Administrators Posts: 55,262 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

It depends what you mean by wrong.

From what I understand, there's no question of the books being wrong, all relevant taxes were paid etc. There has been nothing illegal here by anyone.

But RT/NK have obviously sought alternative methods of renumeration to offset the salary cut that was imposed across the board at RTE, and this has been done in a way that avoided (until now) this becoming public knowledge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,876 ✭✭✭bokale

And it's probably just my ignorance on these kind of contracts but as a ignorant member of the public I found them very poor on what's happening right now in rte. When they couldn't dodge with the I wasn't there excuse.

I doubt everyone in rte gets to keep the money flowing between contracts as easy as "the talent" do.

They were vague on whether Tubridy has a contract or not. That tells me he has one.

  • Administrators Posts: 55,262 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Of course he has a contract, he's hardly going to be working for free. But the TV+Radio contract that he was on is ended, the TV portion is dead.

I think what they are trying to say is that his current salary is lower than reported as they are no longer paying him the full terms.

They're word-smithing it a bit but that's my read on the gist of it.

Having RTE News report and provide editorial commentary on their bosses just seems a bit pointless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,348 ✭✭✭limnam

    They obviously did.

But what's the issue with that?

The issue is RTE's backhanded way of paying RT and false publishing of his numeration.

That's not on RT or NK

As one of the board answered earlier, the reason this kind of deal had to be conceived in the first place was likely due to "the talent" not just accepting the same paycut as everyone else, but instead stalling negotiations unless he could get some of that money back, hence why RTE had to guarantee the payments which benefitted Renault (as it was cost neutral to them), which benefitted Turbridy/NK (mo' money), and cost RTE (public taxpayer funded) money.

NK at the very least would have had to have known that RTE were putting this money through a system of invoicing to conceal it.

Illegal or immoral? No. Wrong? Subjective. But neither Tubridy nor NK are innocent in all of this either. No other presenter, even the many represented by NK, had a similar deal. That implies Tubridy was pushing for more money to offset the paycut that everyone else at RTE was getting and that he would have to be publicly shown to be getting, and he knew he would have to do events for Renault (up to 3 per year for as long as the agreement with Renault was in place), which means he was party to the details of the deal and knew he'd be getting extra money on top of his reduced public-stated salary.

Yet you have posters here and other parties (paddy cosgrave and his ilk) looking for the gardai to be involved, insinuating all sorts of laws being broken etc etc.

What does, credited against his earnings mean?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,064 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

It may be in a 'rolling' phase. And RTE board dont want to suspend it. Because it would incriminate them also.

    Legally? Doesn't appear so.

Taken advantage of weak financial governance at RTÉ and potentially damaged (or ruined, if one prefers) both of their reputations by unfettered greed and being party to circuitous payments in order to avoid publication? Appears so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,348 ✭✭✭limnam

    Look, don't get me wrong.

Nothing gets my goat up more than the overpaid dross at RTE.

But all the above you just outlined sounds perfectly fine.

Any employee of any company publically funded or not should fight their corner.

RT/NK fought there's and at the time got what they wanted. Which was to Avoid RT taking a 15% hit.

RTE were 100% in the wrong in how they went about making that happen and in the false publication of the package.

RT/NK are not at fault here. Not in the slightest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,621 ✭✭✭tobefrank321

Apart from pretending to take a paycut in solidarity with RTE staff, making a big deal about that paycut in the media, then pressuring RTE for top-up payments, nothing wrong.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

In other words, Tubridy didn't want to take a pay cut and RTE facilitated that via backdoor payments and didn't report it in that top 10 list. Rather than telling him to f'off like they should have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭ZookeeperDub

What was clear today, is that Tubridy was tipped off. If he was so innocent why the sudden and swift departure before this came out. He is up to his neck in it and that's why he ran.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,064 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

So you are calling Tubridy a liar? Because thats not what he said Friday.

And NK may well have seriously damaged his career. Sent in false invoices. Nothing wrong? Well if you are going to ignore that sure.

The public and advertisersare also entitled to turn off Tubridy. Nothing wrong with that.

    Is it though?

If my company does a blanket 15% cut across the board.

I take the hit as do all.

Then I go and say look, sort this out another way or I'm off to a company who will match or pay more

Do I all of a sudden become morally bankrupt?

    This is bizarre!

Reruns of Killnascully and Reeling in the years would do that job quicker…oh wait that’s rte’s August schedule😀

You certainly do when you go out and publicly lie to your colleagues about it yes.

Highest-paid presenter at RTE. All staff having to take a 15% paycut. Publicly funded organisation. Still getting hundreds of thousands per year. Publicly claiming that he took took a paycut like everyone else without disclosing how he's being alternately compensated most, if not all of it. No other big presenter doing the same thing because they understand why the paycuts were required and knowing they get paid more than enough anyway.

"Fault" "Wrong" etc are all subjective. Nobody is claiming there was anything illegal in his actions.

But people are more than entitled to call him a greedy scumbag. That too is subjective, and not without merit.
