I think it is impossible that Tubridy was unaware of an extra 350k. He had to be involved in discussions about the nature of these payments. Tubridy might not have done anything illegal but he is implclit in deception and that makes his public role close to unattainable

Tubs’s PR people have been working overtime, he’s obviously realised that his dismissive statement yesterday didn’t exactly cut the mustard

    New statement from RT:

“While I have no responsibility for the corporate governance in RTÉ or how or what they publish in their accounts, when my earnings were published I should have asked questions at the time and sought answers as to the circumstances which resulted in incorrect figures being published.

“I didn’t, and I bear responsibility for my failure to do so. For this, I apologise unreservedly,” he said.

In a statement this evening he expressed regret that RTÉ has decided not to let him present his radio show next week.

"I am disappointed that RTÉ has decided that for editorial reasons I should not broadcast my radio show next week. I look forward to returning to the radio show, a job I love, as soon as possible and I hope my listeners and my colleagues appreciate,” he said.

The statement added: “At the centre of all of this is trust. The trust of colleagues in RTÉ and the trust of a great many people who listen to my show. To them: I wholeheartedly apologise for my error of judgement.

“Separately, it has been reported that I did not take a pay cut over the last number of years. This is simply not true. Over the period of my contract with RTÉ, I have been asked to take several reductions in salary and I did. Indeed, between 2012 and today, my pay from RTÉ was cut by approximately 40%.

“I also wish to respond to suggestions that this issue had some bearing on my decision to step down from hosting the Late Late Show. It did not.”

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

It’s not as if someone decided to give him some money as a surprise, and the keep it as a surprise to the extent he didn’t know about it.

He's looking forward to coming back to radio and his decision to step down from LLS had nothing to do with this scandal 😂

Well he's admitted he knew - how screwed can you be deflecting it back to RTE again

thing is this goes into the turbidy Inc. company account. I'm assuming he gets salary/dividend from that ? whatever is most tax efficient ?

would he even look or accounts say plenty of money in there at the moment .

although ryan and hi agent must have at least negotiated this at some point

Really? It's 160 euro and it gives you access to a lot of GAA games, local content and news, radio stations, URC rugby and the list goes on

Try getting that from a private provider and you will pay a lot more than 160 per year

The issue is about hiding payments and a problem in RTE which needs to be resolved. The TV license in my opinion should still be paid

The fundamental point that it's RTE that made the incorrect disclosure is being lost .

RT is not RTEs accountant or auditor or the one responsible for the disclosure .

The point that RTE made a statement yesterday that named Turbidy yet did not disclose until today that Dee Forbes was suspended on Wednesday is the bigger story.

The admission that 'barter' arrangements in RTE are not unusual also tells you a lot.

    Ratings won't drop now that's he's gone.

They have a better presenter for the Late Late, so no it won't drop. The rating for the news will actually boost

Wouldn't be surprised if more of the big names have received these "Bonus" type payments as the one management company seems to look after the "Who's who" in radio and tv..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭ZookeeperDub

    No it's not been lost.

But do you honestly think Tubridy was not aware of what was going on?

Both are as guilty as each other, trying to point the finger of blame at one misses that

worse still it'd been around since March

MEDIA MINISTER CATHERINE MARTIN has said she became aware in March that there was an issue in RTÉ’s accounts.

Speaking to reporters today, she said she was told in March that an issue had arisen in their “routine annual audit” and that a “fact-finding review” was being established to get to the bottom of it.

The problem I see with Catherine Martin is that the "fact finding review" is been done by a company which is totally in bed with RTE so they won't risk further work by exposing anyone.

Want to see how it works, read the report done by HSE post ransomware attack. By the company which was involved prior to the attack and they would expose themselves

It's like asking Charlie Haughey to do a review on Charlie Haughey, guess what the outcome will be

The insincerity drips from every word and is blatant considering the "nothing to see" here guff from yesterday.

That had to be dragged out of him kicking and screaming like a bold child.

    Not good enough.

There are still many questions that need to be answered by Tubs, by Noel Kelly, and by RTÉ.

Tubs and Kelly said it was nothing to do with them. It has. There are two parties to any contract. RTÉ is one part, either Tubs and NK (or one of them alone) is the other.

The Irish Times described Tubs yesterday as “unapologetic”. This new statement is a little better than yesterday’s, but still nowhere near good enough.

Tubs doesn't even think anything is wrong at all.

I stopped reading the statement after ‘I have no responsibility’. The FF breeding is strong in this one…

Tubs should resign, end of story. in any other country he would be gone. Plus those responsible for the deception at the top of RTE, and WITHOUT pension.

I believe Tubs was involved in FRAUD, in that he was in on the deception, for his own personal gain.

    Holding tyrants to the fire

Whatever about the nothing burgeredness about a approx 10% overpayment to Ryan Tubridy, a lot of posters are clearly using this thread to simply air random gripes about Ryan’s agent, his tv and radio show and his personal habits (how he’s not even a real bookworm etc).

It all reminds me of the person who is brimming over with jealousy and resentment towards someone else, and then they absolutely blow their stack over the smaller slight by the second person. Some people have even compared Ryan to Philip Schofield for god’s sake.

Cheques will be written, apologies will be made and this will all be forgotten about in a few weeks, apart from a few no-good-niks.
