I pictured him in lycra, sliding down a pole into the Turbity Cave while reading that.

It's obviously a problem for Tubridy, a man who presents himself as some sort of commentator on Ireland and current affairs to have engaged with such under the counter practices. Middle Ireland will want to hear or see nothing of this man on the TVs or radios. He can have his money or he can have a public role. He can't have both.

Are you seriously suggesting Ryan Tubridy doesn't read the media commentary on his pay every year? Isn't aware of what was published?

An actor might be able to get away with playing dumb like this but not a so-called media and current affairs commentator. If he doesn't know what was going on he is incompetent.

Come off it. Put up a poll on that question and see the deserved ridicule you get.

To the public, this is nothing more than them being beside themselves with glee that someone in a position of influence and authority seems to have tripped and been found out. It will be exagerratingly milked for all it’s worth

To be fair, B, that seems to be your standard setting when it comes to Tubridy.

How do you think you’ll spend your day if he decides to “step down”, as predicted above?

Agree but it'd be a pity if they threw the baby out with the bathwater. The Tories seem determined to strip mine BBC and C4. It'd be a total hellscape if the same happened here and we were left without Public Service broadcasting and only have whatever reality tv dirge Virgin Media wheel out.

    Neither am I.

Youre the one who couldn’t grasp the difference between a contractor working for a company and a contractor who is a DIRECTOR and OWNER of a company.

of course, you are also outlining the perils of this kind of arrangement.

it is a choice for some, not for others, but it is being painted as something else here and people are lapping it up looking at the likes some of this nonsense is garnering.

I will get you to do the negotiation for me and rather than I pay your fee (I requested your services afterall) we’ll get RTÉ to pay for that on top too. Any chance I could offset your fees against my own tax liability though?

Agreed and I started the thread. My gripe is more about the bloat in the state broadcaster, which I believe we need but how many radio stations/orchestras/sh!te entertainment shows do we need?

First they came for the socialists...

It's not in the annual reports (which Emmett first mentioned, not me) but the pay of the top ten highest earning presenters has been published by RTE for many years and receives widespread attention. The idea that he was unaware of this discrepancy is fanciful. The idea that he doesn't bear a responsibility to disclose it is morally bankrupt.

Can you be more specific as to the rumour about McGregor and the toy man?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

No, it’s not. That’s complexly untrue.

Thanks to an organized mob of SuperFans I got banned from The Tubridy Thread for essentially quoting him verbatim and pointing out the inconsistency of his comments versus the persona or brand he has created for himself (with help from the puppet master NK).

I haven’t been on that thread in months, and my life is progressing very smoothly - thanks for asking.

Tubs has been living a lie and is a fraud. Those who have called this out are labeled oddballs, malcontents, and much much worse. We had a series of personal attacks on me in particular (but also other posters) from accounts that were created solely to hurl personal abuse at those who dared to criticize Tubridy. I - unlike many on here - play fairly. Whilst I might engage in sarcasm on occasion, I do not hurl personal abuse at people because of their opinions. Tubs SuperFans seem at times incapable of defending him without resorting to personal insults.

What’s happening now couldn’t happen to a (pretend) nicer man.

An the “unhinged” personal attack comments are starting now. Straight out of the Tubs Defender’s Playbook.

The problem is that Tubridy is said to be a journalist and au fait with current affairs and news as part of his job.

Therefore he can't possibly have been unaware of the annual public disclosure of his & others fees and the debate that surrounded these, value for money etc.

For him to carry on smugly, knowing there was a discrepancy between the public stated fees and what he was really getting, is simply unacceptable. He'd get away with that as a banker or in private business. But not in the role he's been playing.

Occurs to me that he must have been aware this was going to arise since earlier in the year. Could he have pre-empted and come clean with an apology blah, blah. Probably but still have been consequences. Instead he brazened it out, accepted all the fandom with his final days on the LLS etc and stuck his head in the sand.

I'd think his career in RTE is gone now. Oliver Callan or Ray Darcy for the morning slot.

ive never engaged in this other thread you mentioned but it seems you (and others if what you say is true) have an unhealthy obsession with him, personally i dont listen to or watch the guy. Maybe try that?

What did I make up as you claim?

You clearly - from your posts - do not seem to understand that as the OWNER and/or DIRECTOR of a company you have different entitlements and allowances to that of a contractor who works for that company.

you are doing it again :)

i understand perfectly and none of my posts show anything different.

Oh “unhealthy obsession” now. More personal attacks and abuse to go with “unhinged”. As I have said many times, why are Tubs supporters incapable of debating the topic without resorting to personal attacks on those who have a differing opinion of the man?

How was this 345,000 treated in RTEs accounts - did they simply not declare the money that was redirected to tubs?

    How widespread is this practice?

Surely this kinda disguised remuneration is not above board??. Business gets income of say 1m , declares 655k and arranges for 345k to go directly to its "employee"

Did this under-declaration of income by RTE affect any government decisions on subsidy/handout payments to RTE? ( ie by faking salary reductions in this manner.))

Did this under-declaration of income by RTE allow RTE to qualify for Covid payments that they otherwise wouldn't have.

I don't listen to the radio much so I am not familiar with his radio show. The odd time I do listen to it I would put on the Moncrieff show. I did watch the late late show from time to time, especially during the lockdowns.

I had no idea he lied like this. Why would you lie about books you have not read? How childish and insecure is that. What really take the biscuit though is the way he would lecture people on tv about being kind, look out for others and be less greedy. It would sort of remind you of a certain Charles J Haughey.

like i said not my hero, i didnt hang out in your other thread, im coming at it fresh and you come across the same way to me,

    funny eh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

Really? Have I said you're unhinged and have a healthy obsession with him? Or anything remotely approaching that? No. I haven't.

    Do better.

    And stop deflecting.

I'm off to meetings now for the next few hours so not "running away" in case you think that when you hurl your next missive.

    this should clarify

    https://www.rte.ie/news/primetime/2023/0622/1390654-explainer-what-are-barter-account-transactions/#:~:text=RT%C3%89%20said%20in%20its%20statement,for%20other%20goods%20or%20services.

In exchange for a commercial partner paying Mr Tubridy for €75,000 worth of services in 2020, RTÉ was to provide the commercial partner with a credit note for – typically - advertising for the same value.

When the commercial partner did not renew the agreement during the pandemic, as RTÉ had underwritten the agreement, the payments were instead made directly by RTÉ to Mr Tubridy.

Don't people realize that Tubs has several sources of income outside of RTE and this money as it came from a private source was one of them. An RTE arrangement and therefore not his problem. He is innocent but there will be an ill informed witch hunt.

no, but it would be strange to say i have an unhealthy obsession, your own posts indicate that you do.
