192 for 6 now with 80 odd needed. Finely balanced

England badly needed that as Australia were cruising to victory.

Australia still favourites with an in-form Carey coming to the crease.

I really can’t see the logic of no close catchers, only one slip for the quicks. Every wicket has come from a catch behind the stumps with the exception of Robinson bowling Green.

Australia won’t mind doing it in one’s and twos

Will they bowl all the overs remaining or is there a cut off time?

They will complete them all weather permitting

    Khawaja gone.

looked a very tired shot… a scrambled seem slower delivery….. England slight favourites again…into the tail… super entertainment.

    Massive wicket. England favourites now

Aussies have blown this. Ponderous batting all day. Let England dictate proceedings, field placings, etc.

Daily Mail's Lawrence Booth: I hate to say this, but rain could be hitting Edgbaston around 6.30 for 15-20 minutes. It's 5.45, and Australia need 72, England three wickets.

Only 103 runs from 45 overs today. It's been strange. Head has been the only who has looked to be aggressive all day. The rest are just eeking out the runs.

New ball is just 5 overs away now.

I think there's subtext going on beneath this Ashes where the Aussies are determined to play 'proper' Test cricket and show that this Bazball malarkey is a load of gubbins. They need to be fighting fire with fire imo. England would have knocked off these runs in 40 overs.

Very strange to see the Aussies playing ponderous conservative cricket against England's ultra aggressive style.

Two drops by Root in a couple of overs. One difficult one exceedingly difficult…. but takes one 😅😅😅😅🤷‍♂️ after a fumble

there goes carey with aus needing 54

lets hope for a monty and anderson type partnership

Roots getting far too wide… attack the stumps, they miss you hit pad or stumps, no sense allowing the batsman to free his arms. That was costly…. All of a sudden just 37 needed.

England finally take the new ball. This is tense!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,763 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

New ball eventually, going for broke…

Broad with a good probing over but pushes one too far and wide up there and 4.

feckin hell, some finish this is!

Field still far to negative… one slip, zero close catchers, no short leg, silly point. I just don’t get it…no mid wicket, no short extra cover.

What a test. Winviz will be ruled out of the next one due to fatigue.

Stupid declaration cost England. Disappointed with the result but a great test none the less.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

What an innings from Cummins , barely gave up any chances. Don't feel too sorry for England , they will be delighted with that because they entertained. LOL

Yeah, no doubt the declaration was the difference. Whether England won or lost, that was a stupid thing to do with Root absolutely flying.

I thought the opposite, could have been 80 all out if it was overcast with no rain
