Best saw type for cutting logs and timbers

Whilst a bit outside your budget, something like this would fit your needs nicely.

a mitre saw or such like is designed for cutting square edged dry timber,and would not do well at cutting logs, in fact would be rather dangerous to use to cut round material, I presume would prefer to keep your fingers attached to your hands.

Your 200 euro budget is a bit unrealistic perhaps given your needs.

If you were buying timber (no access to free stuff) you would spend more than the price of this saw on fuel in one winter season. you could say that the saw will pay for itself in its first season of use in saved fuel costs.

I have no relation with Hartnett products other than having purchased a log splitter from them some 5 years ago, very happy with its durability and performance.

If you want to avoid having to deal with a petrol chainsaw, a corded, electric chainsaw should not be discounted. I have a Worx brand (from B&Q) that's given good service over the last ten years. We made a trestle that is designed for cutting 300mm lengths which is what suits our storage method and stove. The one shown is for 2400mm lengths but you could make a longer one that would afford less shuffling of the logs.
