Spray for Thistles

Definitely are, after 4 days they have had a nice steady decline in life, a slow kill rate I'd say I'm very happy as it should travel to the root and hopefully get a better overall kill rate. It Has got the better of the few bunches of nettles too that I passed on my travels so hopefully that will be the end of them too. It has checked the docks but don't think it will kill them as they still look healthy enough bar a bit of wilting.

I have bought pasture pack for the exact same thing as I could be only get thislex in 1ltr

Wait until its been raining heavy for a few weeks. The ground will soften up. At this stage you might be able to pull them out by hand and bring the roots out with them.

Topped a field yesterday evening (cows still grazing it) . Field full of thistles but plenty grass. I seen some of the Cows were eating the thistles after I had cut them!! Mad, they would graze around them growing but eat them when they are cut??

Any issues with fertilising few days after spraying?

Seen sheep cleaning thistles as well in the late autumn as they start to die.

Thistles are now nearly at the stage where they should be topped and met regrow before being sprayed.

MCPA works well on them. Another trick to remember if you have clover and want to protect it graze the ground well before spraying the absence of leaves on the clover will give it protection during spraying

I thought when grazing was mentioned i assumed animals like goats.

I don’t know if they give a rate but I’d say 1:500 would be sound I put half a litre into full of sprayer. And they are well turned now

Did a reseed in few fields last year.

Eagle failed to hold back Thistles.

They taken over a few places. In desperation thinking of roundup thistle sections.after two weeks,run over with chain harrow. Then surface seed .

Is this madness?

Too them and spray the regrowth. Strong thistles tend to go to seed if they are strong when sprayed.

Get cattle to graze the area before spraying as this gives some protection to clover.

I believe instructions says min 7 days but no harm read leaflet

Just bumping this thread…..would it be gone past time for getting thistles sprayed?…..
