Haven’t been following the thread much this year but have we any educated guesses who could be announced next week?

id imagine likes of bicep and foals will be?

There's a realist right there. There will certainly be a good few bands, Mucker.

You've missed nothing Davy. Everyone's afraid to hazard a guess. Fanirish is in in seconds to cut you off at the knees.

Bicep, Foals, Wet Leg, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Young Fathers, Siouxie are some of the most prominent names I've heard thrown around here

Following the @Dreamweapon review I’ll give Meryl Streak a miss tomorrow but may catch Mhaol this evening. Anyone caught them? Guardian gave their album a rave review last month.

We’re almost certain to see both of those and many more Irish acts in Stradbally. Murder Capital nailed on I’d assume plus Sprints in the main arena, Nerves, NewDad, etc. And can we finally have SLF there?

@endainoz is correct in preparing us for the worst but all I need is 10-12 goodies plus a few newcomers. I’m pretty sure we’ll have that. Hopefully enough to get most of the Boardsies there. Us and our demographic leave and then the festival heads into Longitude territory.

Hoping for Manics, they're down for Isle of White and Glastonbury but nowt else for festival season.

Lots of interesting acts at that festival in Portugal that weekend. Hope a few will cross over.

Watched the Fred again... video of his Boiler Room set on YouTube. It's very good and looking forward to seeing him.

Ooh now i feel bad! Have a look at live clips on youtube and make your judgement then.

As for Mhaol, i find the singer intensely irritating. Plus i'm tired of being lectured to at gigs so there's that to consider. Musically, it's your usual postpunk vibes. Not bad at all but its been done to death at this stage. Just copped you were going to see them last night so this is probably moot.

I'm off to the Spirit Store tonight for Just Mustard's hometown 360 AV show😁

Speaking of festivals did anyone catch the Burning Man doc on Sky Arts last night, absolutely fascinating, would love to make it to that one as well as Glasto.

Jee—sus!! I haven’t logged on in a while due to massive work load and travel. Just read hundreds of comments (5months worth I’d say)

It was a typical rollercoaster cycle in fast forward, announcement, no announcement, announcement of an announcement, Apextwin😜

I was hoping to catch some Coachella footage tonight, but strangely nothing until tomorrow.

It would make my EP if M83 were added!!

Wetleg, Foals and Bicep also please!! Where could Bicep play? I suspect they’d more than pack any tent!!

Fred again did a tiny desk session, I was curious as to ‘how’? as on the surface he appears to be the stereotypical DJ and tiny desk is typically raw and exposed, but absolutely wow, what a performance. This guy is Multiinstrument, a serious talent!

Check this out! (He’s a little rusty on the instruments and had said he’d been practicing like crazy for this tiny desk gig)

His live shows look good. I think he's a great shout for the late Saturday night slot.

I know this is a late April festival in Durham but what a mad eclectic line up of oldies.

Thanks for sharing the Fred Again; Tiny Desk. Class.

And I’d be on same page with your wish list. M83 latest album ‘Fantasy’ is a real return to form. Never seen him live. Seen Bicep a few times and never disappointed. Be unreal if we get M83, Bicep and (unlikely due to scheduling) The Blaze.

The blaze playing b&s as a headliner. No EP for them

Did a bit of a deep dive over the weekend into who is playing other festivals/shows around Europe in August to try and figure out who might pop up in Fridays announcement (or ATN's whenever they get the finger out). Posted my wishlist about 5 or 6 weeks ago and some have been ruled out in the meantime:

Wishlist posted a few weeks back:

Bicep, Confidence Man, King Gizzard & the Wizard Lizard, Girl in Red, Desire, Fever Ray, Foals, 2manyDjs, The Chemical Brothers, Slowdive, Christine & the Queens, The Blaze, M83. Still a decent amount in play, although if we got 3 of those I'd be over the moon.

My predictions for some who will be announced:

Bicep - if I could bet on this I would.

    Foals

    Lorde

    Viagra Boys

    Bonobo

    Yung Lean

    Dry Cleaning

    Young Fathers

and go on and say M83, although he does seem to be playing in Portugal & France that weekend. I think we would be extremely unlucky if we missed out on him completely, hopefully turns up at ATN or EP.

Loads more that I have undoubtedly never heard of will be announced too but these were some of the more recognizable names that popped up frequently in August and seem to be free that weekend.

From your wishlist and predictions i'd take Confidence Man (playing Otherside in Slane in July though), KG&TLW, 2manydjs, Slowdive, Viagra Boys and maybe Young Fathers (lasted about 20mins of their last EP set but happy to give them another go).

The rest is too bland/dull for me, no offence intended. Still, six acts would be a good start!

    Wouldn’t be surprised if:

    peggy gou

    bicep

    young fathers

    Ethel cain

Confidence Man also announced as support for New Order in October I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,813 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

None taken. Otherside festival completely fell off my radar, probably rules them out so. There are acts out there anyway so fingers crossed. Say we are guaranteed some of the big Irish pop acts like a Picture This/Hozier/Gavin James/Kodaline type too though and probably a couple of techno djs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,339 ✭✭✭Ricosruffneck

Great thing is Gavin James picture this and kodaline are all doing their own gigs.

Hozier he's great and would have liked to have seen him again but he's also doing his own thing

I've also given Young Fathers a punt in the past. Not for me, Clive.
